man i still cant believe the zune hd doesn't allow me to watch youtube vidz. i have been struggling to look for a damn zune hd and now that i have found it the damn thing doesn't let me watch it. i do not want an ipod touch but i think i might just cause of that :(
I can't believe MS is discontinuing the ZuneHD. It's a great player. Microsoft sucked at marketing it, I don't think I ever saw a commercial. My only gripe about the hardware is the volume rocker button. It doesn't adjust the volume but brings up a volume display on the screen which is counter-intuitive (what were the develpers thinking?!). So you just can't adjust the volume on the fly. I hope they resurrect it or some other company buys it (Google?)

SmartDJ is the best music discovery process I've used yet (cancelled Rhaspody, iTunes now runs only on my iMac, Sirius is now only in my car, etc). I bought a dock for my stereo and use alarm clock and stream SmartDJ picks. My latest achievement is getting my Zune HD and Zune PC to work with my 360 and stream my tunes and vids to home theater system.
We have both the iPod Touch 4G 32GB and Zune HD 16GB. I use the Zune way more than the iPod since 4.5 -- but I'm more into music than the apps, and the Touch can't compete on that front. My child, though, is into the Touch -- but he likes the little games and not the music.

The Zune HD 2 will have access to the Windows Phone 7 marketplace, so all those apps you wish you had, you're gonna see those. Zune HD 2 is expected for release this winter.
The Zune Rapes the Ipod touch in every category wether it be sound, price, screen, battery life, etc. The only category where the Ipod Touch wins is the Apps.
Me personally, I only use my MP3 player for music. Altho im not going to lie, the Ipod apps are very cool.

Not being able to watch YouTube or any of the other sites that use flash is a HUGE drawback and will literally change peoples opinions about getting a Zune HD. Although you are trying to push silverlight to take over the software flash uses, you need to accept that Flash is still the preffered video/audio streaming software.
So, Zune community... does the Zune HD need flash, or is it a luxury that wont affect you.

@xerxaxax some people are more into portable media players to play media, not to play games. Some minor handware differences and apps are really the only thinsg apple has that microsoft doesnt, and the app development community for zune is growing especially with openZDK and such. And some others just don't want an Apple device, and this certaintly is the next best thing.

@xerxaxax There's a HUGE 3rd party developer community with tons of apps. The iPod Touch doesnt not have an HD radio, OLED screen, or ZunePass which is MUCH better than 99 cents per song or whatever on iTunes. Zune HD UI is smoother and more aesthetical, the audio quality is better, it can spew out full HD video at 30 fps, and it's a lot slimmer and lighter than the iPod. Overall, it's just more hot. The only thing better about the iPod is its app selection, speakers, and a microphone.

I have both, and prefer the Zune HD so how can i lose you fucking dumbass. And no one shares anything... if you mean sharing as in handng it around to your friend so he can have a go on the way to work, well guess what? you can do that with the Zune as well! IF you mean share files, files aren't exclusive to the itouch...

i think you're bias bro. i like the zune more for the quality music experience and video experience. i can watch my hd movies from my zune when i connect them to the tv and im not that much of a fan of apps, my solitaire and weather app are fine for me. on the other hand if u enjoy apps, than the ipod is a much better choice, and the ipod is faster on the internet from the reviews i've seen. I think it's just a matter of what device you prefer.

XNA 4.0 on the ZuneHD (NOT just on the ZuneHD v2 (if there is one)) is also vital. Why leave Zune behind on XNA 3.1? Is it that the Tegra cannot keep up? Answers on a postcard please...
I love this update so much! Taking screenshots from the browser on the HD is awesome. For the people who commented and don't know how... just hold down the screen with your finger for a second &a pop up will appear asking you if you want to save it to your collection. You'll find the image saved under pictures. :)
The only thing I really want is more of a variety of supported wireless internet types. I can't use my zune at school with the internet because the network is still not supported :(
just subscribed to a Zune pass, because of this update. Proud owner of Zune30, 4gb, and now the 32gb HD - never found the value in a pass until now, being able to stream it on the go. Big plus that my University is wireless on the entire campus.
Y does Microsoft always fail when it comes to giving people what they want it took them almost 3 years for them to put a clock on the old Zunes. This is all stuff that really should already have been on there. it took them this long to come up with 3 things?

I'm not sure but doesn't it support AVI files now? If it does then I will be a happy man. And btw, I believe that the apps will come when the windows 7 phone comes out. It pretty much is the same interface and the apps will work on both. There is absolutely no reason besides this that no apps have come out thus far. Not even a notes app has been introduced, a very useful app I've needed various times.
But still, not even a notes app is out. I'm pretty sure they will be changing the layout to the windows phone 7 layout when it comes out. The apps are most likely going to be the same's as windows phone 7's because they are pretty much the same operating OS. And unfortunately, we will have to be paying for these apps because you have to in the winpho7 series. SO apps and a new update will come on by the end of summer. I'm almost sure this is going to happen.

Really Zune? An HD update and no love whatsoever for the Old Style Zune lovers - not even smartDJ? There's no reason you can't do smartDJ on the old zune player - not reliant on HD features.
It's not enough. Make last . fm work with Zune(without third party pluggins). I REFUSE to join the Social aspect of Zune. I have been on last . fm for years and I'm not going to switch now because I see no reasons of having two accounts of a service that is basically the same.
I just hate it how you guys keep saying that, " you listened," but if you had really listened, this update would have been a lot better. Sure these features are nice but not helpful when you don't have a Zune pass or a lot of the artist on your collection are not in the Marketplace. The Zune community wants apps above all things. Not tons of useless apps like the App store Apple has but some decent releases from time to time. Just saying.
It's really really beautiful, you guys have done a GREAT job... unfortunately the ONLY thing keeping me from buying one at this point is that there's no word of support from any Car Stereo manufacturer's... and before you say it, NO, the car kit does not suffice. I don't want an FM tuner with poor fidelity. I want full integration with the controls on my stereo, is that too much to ask? Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, I don't care, I'd buy any of them if it would work with a ZuneHD.
Meh nothing major in this update for me just because I prefer to pay nothing for my music(thx utorrent!) and seeing as how smartdj should've been on the device from day one, this update is long overdue. Please let me know how the marketplace integration with wp7 and wpa2 support is going zune team!

Zune HD UI is smoother and more aesthetical, the audio quality is better, it can spew out full HD video at 30 fps, and it's a lot slimmer and lighter than the iPod. Overall, it's just more hot. The only thing better about the iPod is its app selection, speakers, and a microphone.

Better screen, zune pass, better looking, Smart DJ is better than Genius, audio quality is better, and there is a massive 3rd party scene with things like emulators etc. All the itouch has over the zune is apps, and I hardly use them because if I want tend to talk to my friends and listen to music while travelling, or go on facebook, which the zune has.

@antihighschoolmusica Better UI?? How? it takes longer to get to things on the Zune than the iPod dickhole. Screen is a little better i admit. and it looks fugly with those 4 screws on the back. Audio quality is better on iPod because it has Equalizers. Ever heard of Jailbreaking your iPod? Yeah.. It destroys the emulators on the Zune. And you obviously don't use apps.. well because you don't have an iPod. Everybody and their dog uses apps, that's why Zune doesn't sell worth piss. Zune sucks.

@xerxaxax The battery life of the 3rd generation Itouch is 6 hours when watching films, and for the zune hd it's 8.5. It's 33 hours for Zune for audio, ad 30 for Itouch. I have both, and prefer the Zune HD so how can i lose you fucking dumbass. And no one shares anything... if you mean sharing as in handng it around to your friend so he can have a go on the way to work, well guess what? you can do that with the Zune as well! IF you mean share files, files aren't exclusive to the itouch...

And it has less battery life because it produces a lot more pixels and the screen is LED i think. That's how the battery life sucks balls. Don't compare statistics online. I've tested it myself, watching films, and it worked for 8 and a bit hours straight(8hours 25 minutes) And you truly are an idiot if you think that music/videos are exclusive to Apple's products. I can share them with my friends regardless of what player I have. Plus sharing is illegal, and often lower quality. Zune Pass provides 300 kbps. You lose, I win.

i think you're bias bro. i like the zune more for the quality music experience and video experience. i can watch my hd movies from my zune when i connect them to the tv and im not that much of a fan of apps, my solitaire and weather app are fine for me. on the other hand if u enjoy apps, than the ipod is a much better choice, and the ipod is faster on the internet from the reviews i've seen. I think it's just a matter of what device you prefer.

The menu system seems smooth enough, but it's more like a games console than a PC, which I think is the direction smart phones should going in.
The ultimate phone is still a handheld PC, right? Apple are winning that battle.

0:33. Aqua. lol. youtube is a must, along with some more apps (i know thats not necessarily what the ZuneHD is all about, but to prevent iGroupies mocking it, they are needed). XNA 4.0 on the ZuneHD (NOT just on the ZuneHD v2 (if there is one)) is also vital. Why leave Zune behind on XNA 3.1? Is it that the Tegra cannot keep up? Answers on a postcard please...

I love this update so much! Taking screenshots from the browser on the HD is awesome. For the people who commented and don't know how... just hold down the screen with your finger for a second &a pop up will appear asking you if you want to save it to your collection. You'll find the image saved under pictures. :)
The only thing I really want is more of a variety of supported wireless internet types. I can't use my zune at school with the internet because the network is still not supported :(

just subscribed to a Zune pass, because of this update. Proud owner of Zune30, 4gb, and now the 32gb HD - never found the value in a pass until now, being able to stream it on the go. Big plus that my University is wireless on the entire campus.

@jmaster5590 Well think about it, Zune doesnt make microsoft, but the iPod really put apple were it is today(and you cant even argue that) So apple puts alot more time and effort than microsoft puts into the zune. If the zune was discontinued it wouldnt hurt microsoft at all, but if Apple were to discontinue iPod, they would lose >50$ of there market. But yeah that pisses me off alot because i love my zune but theres so much potential with it that they are wasting.

I'm not sure but doesn't it support AVI files now? If it does then I will be a happy man. And btw, I believe that the apps will come when the windows 7 phone comes out. It pretty much is the same interface and the apps will work on both. There is absolutely no reason besides this that no apps have come out thus far. Not even a notes app has been introduced, a very useful app I've needed various times.

But still, not even a notes app is out. I'm pretty sure they will be changing the layout to the windows phone 7 layout when it comes out. The apps are most likely going to be the same's as windows phone 7's because they are pretty much the same operating OS. And unfortunately, we will have to be paying for these apps because you have to in the winpho7 series. SO apps and a new update will come on by the end of summer. I'm almost sure this is going to happen.

It's not enough. Make last . fm work with Zune(without third party pluggins). I REFUSE to join the Social aspect of Zune. I have been on last . fm for years and I'm not going to switch now because I see no reasons of having two accounts of a service that is basically the same.

I just hate it how you guys keep saying that, " you listened," but if you had really listened, this update would have been a lot better. Sure these features are nice but not helpful when you don't have a Zune pass or a lot of the artist on your collection are not in the Marketplace. The Zune community wants apps above all things. Not tons of useless apps like the App store Apple has but some decent releases from time to time. Just saying.

It's really really beautiful, you guys have done a GREAT job... unfortunately the ONLY thing keeping me from buying one at this point is that there's no word of support from any Car Stereo manufacturer's... and before you say it, NO, the car kit does not suffice. I don't want an FM tuner with poor fidelity. I want full integration with the controls on my stereo, is that too much to ask? Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, I don't care, I'd buy any of them if it would work with a ZuneHD.

Meh nothing major in this update for me just because I prefer to pay nothing for my music(thx utorrent!) and seeing as how smartdj should've been on the device from day one, this update is long overdue. Please let me know how the marketplace integration with wp7 and wpa2 support is going zune team!
