i am having trouble finding a mic that will pick up i am using it on xbox with sennheiser HD 558, i have currently got turtle beach x12 sitting in front of me pulgged into the amp for chat but i want a desktop or clip on mic that will pickup without me shouting wondering if the mics you have are sensitive enough to pick up from 20cm away without shouting??
OK i am not sure if this is the right place for this question but ill shoot it anyways...so the question is if i connect my XBOX or PS3 to a astro MIXAMP 5.8 then to my SCHIIT ASGARD(headphone amp) - BEYER DT 990(headphones) ..will the resulting sound be 7.1 Dolby ®Surround Sound?
@CustodianStatus yea you could, you can set up any headphone with 3.5mm jack (pretty much standard jack - the one the ipod takes) to the astro mixamp. However, what the mixamp is for -- amplifying it to surround sound -- would not be achieve with the dre beats.
Can you connect the mixamp to a proper headphone amp to drive the HD650 at full throttle? If yes would you get any loss in quality? Also how is 3D sound positioning with the 650 + mixamp?
@HiDefGamingGB "hpx or a40s all the way"? Kid, you have no idea what you're talking about. The Sennheiser HD650 is one of the finest headphones that money can buy.
Dude no fucking way, we have the same fucking set up, same MixAmp, Sennheisers, and Zalman. I tried using a stationary mic but it's really uncomfortable because my TV is left of my desk and there's nowhere else to put it.
so you find this combo to sound good? I've got my hd 650's on the way(only bc I got an insane discount through my gf who works at an electronics store) I decided on the 650's bc it seems like the best thing I could get for 200(with the discount of course) only problem is I didnt research to much before buying and now am reading all this stuff about amps etc. do you find it sounds good with the mixamp bc thats probably what I am going to order.
@redxiii29 only if you're like in some crazy orchestra or dj booth. but, for the purpose of gaming and the little mixamp it probably will never get THE best sound quality it could. these headphones were made for listening to music ALL day with no other ambient noise around. itsstill sounds amazing to produce such minute sounds in detail.
thats a nice setup bro... I take it you are quite the gamer so tell me.. hows the directional audio in these headphones with the mixamp? and can you hear people rockin' ninja pro in MW2? I'm looking to get some Sennheisers with the astro amp but I'm not sure if its worth the extra $150 to get these and not the 595's since I will mostly be using it for just gaming
Hey SunShyne, Does the Astro MixAmp really support the HD650s..? I hear/read that it won't handle the power required for the HD650 to really shine and sound good.
so if you order just the mixamp you also get that y-adapter for use with your own headphones/mic??
cuz on the website there is a disclaimer saying if you want to use a 3rd party headset, you have to buy the y-adapter, which implies it doesn't come with the mixamp.
Im worrying about that to because i have a pair of sennheisers and i want a mixamp for my pc an consoles. but i dotn know if there's a Y-adapter included with the 2010 mixamp.
@FreakinJesse if you had bothered to look at the FAQ under products, second question. it answers that right there. or heck even simpler. could'a looked at the Mixers page says right there that the Y-adapter is seprate and avalable for pruchace from them. why in the world they seperated them besides make'n a few extra bucks I'm not sure lmao. etherway hope that helps xD
How sensitive that mic is, do you have to be close to it to be heard? I have mixamp with zalman clip on mic and i have to shove that fucker down my throat if i want people to hear me
cuz its crap, astros are way overhyped, the only good thing about it is the mix amp.
The only true 5.1 Dolby (Dolby Digital Certified) with a selectable level subwoofer, center, front, side, dinamic range and time delay are the Trittons AX PROs (under $200)
There are way better headsets out there, But astro sells you the headset only, for almost $200 and they are crap. The mix amp is good and gets the job done.
Astro headsets are mediocre (sound wise) the only good thing about them is the comfort and flexibility it has on the positioning of the mic. (You can place the mic on the left or right side of the headset)
okay, i have the beats by dr dre headphones, can i use them with the mixamp? they have a cable with a mic built in, so will that still plug into the mixamp ?
Unless he has a VERY small head and if they don't you still can send them back in your 30 day send back policy, also this headset is the best, I love mine, totally worth it, Hoped I helped : )
I haven't heard of the 702 or the 650 but all I know is the right amp like tube amp will run the 650 to its full potential. The AKG I hear are just really power hungry and have heard the 702 is more bass heavy then the 701... but I also hear that the AKGs r lacking in bass but are favored in soundstage and details.
Many audiophiles say AKG often overdoes the heights, on the other hand many others like it that way for their classic music etc.
Id say better get the 650. Im planning to buy a barely used pair of them for 100-150€.
For that price they will outperform any other headphone arround.
I have a tip for you:Asus Xonar Essence XTS. A magnificent soundcard coming with an adjustable headphone amp and superb sound quality. If you bother ripping your CDs in top quality and such, that is.
ya I don't know if I got the money for a full amp. Im running the d10 but even that I don't have present because I had to send it back to ibasso because it wasn't charging properly. And from what I understand the 650 wouldn't be well with the d10. I was looking at the sen IE8 now =( But I do want the 650s....
I'm sure he appreciates them just fine, but for Xbox this amp is the best you can get. Not for it's amping potential, but for the dolby decoder and ability to raise voice chat volume separately from game volume.
Good recommendation on the Xonar. Got the HD650 for 220 on ebay and the card...sounds amazing. When you first hear them, music will sound flat, but thats because you are used to the bass being blown up and distorted like other DAC/Headphones do.
HD650 on a Mixamp are... meh. Impedance on the 650 is quite high... a LOOT more than the 32Ohm provided by the mixamp... Also for gaming HD555/595 and AD700 are cheaper and have a lower impedance and bigger soundstage. Buuuuut... HD650 + Xonar or Amp are the king for music :D
Ok so use the mixamp as a pre amp then and feed it to a bigger amp if you really care about the crystal clarity of a soldiers footstep. But I'm here to tell you I personally have the combo of HD650 and Mixamp and the sound level is fine...and I keep the dial below half. Anything above and it starts hurting my ears.
Impedence doesn't seem to affect sound level, just clarity...and who cares about that in a videogame.
where'd you find the hd 650 for 330? Im looking to get either the 600 for clarity... i din't need much bass while playing. but Im interested in the 650 for regular listening too. I have a headphone amp for it as well as the astro mix amp but I use the astro headset w/out the tags to get the airy feel. I know sennheisers are good headphones but idk .... Im debating between the 650 or an AKG 701 or 702.... AKGs need a good power source and cost half as much.....errrr....
People need to stop leaving these stupid comments without doing their research. The A40 HEAD SET (not the mixamp) is a COMPLETE rip off. Yes, i said it but let me tell you why. The headset its self dose NOT come with 5.1 surround sound. That's what the Mix dose. The only Gaming Headset i think is actually worth $200 dollars is (dare i say it...) The turtle beach x41 (Not the x4's) Those come with 7.1 surround sound, are wireless, and cost less than the astro A40's.
Before you guys start eating eachother over stupid opinions let a professional tell whats what.
Whoever said Sennheisser is garbage and they dont support 5.1 you're a fuckin idiot.
Sennheisser is a billion times better than the A40. The only reason people like it is because it comes with a shiny mixamp. Which by the way is a stupid purchase in the first place considering you're using it for GAMING!
You really have no idea what you're talking about... The Sennheisers are far superior to the crappy a40 headphones, and they definitely do support dolby digital 5.1. Please have some idea of what you're saying before you speak.
Those Sennheisers are very nice headphones. The Astro headset is WAYYYYY overpriced and nowhere near the quality of a high quality headset. My A40's broke twice and I'm sick of them. Replaced them with a Turtle Beach HPX which is much higher quality. Those HD650's must be nice tho if you have the money.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You my friend are the biggest fuckin retard ever. Why have the mixamp without astros, sennheisers are the gayest looking headphones ever doesnt even have a mic.
yeah there actually is. If you have a good pair of high end audiophile headphones like the HD650s (which i am planning on replacing my astros with) then you will get the best out of the mixamp. and just buy a mic like this guy did. plus, my astro headset is shorting out and i cant talk to people on live. and the pros actually prefer the senns over astros. i highly recommend that you should look this stuff up
listen to this guy here. i knew what i wanted to do when i bought the mix amp in the 1st place which was to MIX AND MATCH. i tried the Astros headphones...didn't like em. I've tried Tritton headphones...didn't like em. But my VERY 1st thought when i was even considering buying the mixamp was I AM BUYING THE SENNHEISER 650s FOR THEM!!!! and NEVER LOOKED BACK.
Dude, you don't even know how much better the Sennheiser HD 650s sound in comparison to the Astros lol. Yeah the Astros do sound pretty good (I've heard people compare the sound quality of them to the HD 555s), but the 650s are just awesome.
That's all i have to say. This is the PERFECT example of someone who THINKS they know everything but really have NO idea what they're talking about. The guy in the video has the best set up the most people only wish for.
neither, if ur gonna compete a lot in MLG and meaning like ur going to every event living ur life off of MLG than get a40s since thats wat they use, i jus suggest finding great top of the line headfones or pc headsets and only buying the astro a40 mixamp
but a few question first does the mlg eddition come with the mix amp, if not then how much will it cost to buy the headset and the mix amp in canadian money. and were do u ga these besides the web site
Hey there, how long did it take to be delivered. The reason i ask is because i'm on holiday in America and im leaving in a week, so please let me know ASAP thanks : )
Does any know any Good heaphone AMP for ipod to Sennheiser HD 650 ? and it need to be cheap too! $150 < less, I spend to much on the headphone already:( I need a good amp to full utilize headphone, other ipod sound is so average.
The Astro gaming headset is actually mediocre. It really isn't worth $200. Astro sells the MixAmp and their headset together for $250 to make it sound like a deal but really, the headset is worth less than $100. The real champ in their lineup is the MixAmp. Just like "sunshyne19", I don't use the Astro headset and used my HD650 as well but eventually I opted for an actual headset so I went with the Turtle Beach HPX. The Fatal1ty pc headset works well too.
It depends on how you game. Obviously, sunshyne19 games close to his monitor like pc gamers do so a desktop mic will suffice. I will safely assume you have not experience audiophile-grade headphones? Your response will be different otherwise.
Actually I have a buddy who DJ's and has a high quality noise canceling pair of bose and I know there better then mine but I've compared and the quality isn't THAT much of a difference. And you don't game competitively so your set up is a waste.
Yeah, for competition use, an actual headset is a must but this dude's setup will suffice for home use. In the future don't ever associate Bose with audiophile or audio quality for that matter. It makes you look the fool or someone who just plainly doesn't know any better.
LOL what?! The bose speaker system has a 5 dome speaker setup with a mini bass in the bottom of the headphone. Sorry but the headset im talking about costs 1200$ its the one that DJ AM uses and they are incredible but sound quality really means nothing when it comes to gaming.
Hey. I want to buy the Sennheiser HD 650, but not before I know something. Does it isolate the sound? I mean, can people hear your music if it's loud?
You should get a amp for the 650s, the mixamp is no where near sufficient to drive them. You would probably get better sound out of the HD555 undriven.
I'm pretty happy with the way it sounds. Lets put it this way... I can hear EVERYTHING. The only problem is the MixAmp seems like it can get louder, I mean it's loud enough maybe just a little bit louder.
y does call of duty on your system look like crap is it on 360 if so that is your mistake pc is where its at riged out with sli gtx 280 and u will see a clear difference and plus samsung makes not that great monitors o ya nice sens 650
I just placed an order for the Mix Amp. How long did it take them to ship your Mixamp from the time that you placed your order online till they ship the item?
i just got the bose nose canceling headphones and i was wondering if there was a way to hook up a mic as well without buying a mixamp.. also what does a mixamp do?
just curious... how does bose go about carrying out this "nose canceling" feature? I kind of like my nose... gives me the ability to breathe, and smell, and taste, and stuff...
you've got the dream console gaming setup right there

The Astro A40 Headset is NOT surround sound. The MIXAMP makes it 5.1 surround sound.

UsedToy01 2 years ago
not many head sets are surround sound it needs a amp to make it surround sound lol research it
SYKWYDIT 2 years ago
You basically just said what i said....
UsedToy01 2 years ago
i no i was just agreeing with you and saying most headsets ( if not all) need a mixamp of some sort to make it surround sound. So no worries
SYKWYDIT 2 years ago
Oh my fault hah i thought you were trying to point out something i missed. haha :D
UsedToy01 2 years ago
You really have no idea what you're talking about... The Sennheisers are far superior to the crappy a40 headphones, and they definitely do support dolby digital 5.1. Please have some idea of what you're saying before you speak.
andmcg5668 2 years ago
first of all their just headsets whatever ones you use are fine so just stop complaining
crumeater1998 2 years ago
You do know that A40 only has surround sound when plugged into the mixamp right.
BTW its SENNHEISER not STENHEISSERS
scotty1425 2 years ago
astro head set sux even td sk, team fear and other pros said they suk i hav it rec.
xblcranks 2 years ago
Those Sennheisers are very nice headphones. The Astro headset is WAYYYYY overpriced and nowhere near the quality of a high quality headset. My A40's broke twice and I'm sick of them. Replaced them with a Turtle Beach HPX which is much higher quality. Those HD650's must be nice tho if you have the money.
ItaliaTib2k3 2 years ago
Astro's are good for one reason only. They have the Daisy chain in it.

I'll take your astros then? haha

This comment has received too many negative votes show
You my friend are the biggest fuckin retard ever. Why have the mixamp without astros, sennheisers are the gayest looking headphones ever doesnt even have a mic.
DMatt2345 2 years ago
you're an idiot. period.
sunshyne19 2 years ago 6
Yea im not the idiot thats using a turtle beach fuckin headset. Hope you know you waisted about $100.
DMatt2345 2 years ago
dude theres no point in having a mixamp without astros.......
KbRoCkS243 2 years ago
yeah there actually is. If you have a good pair of high end audiophile headphones like the HD650s (which i am planning on replacing my astros with) then you will get the best out of the mixamp. and just buy a mic like this guy did. plus, my astro headset is shorting out and i cant talk to people on live. and the pros actually prefer the senns over astros. i highly recommend that you should look this stuff up
iiamiNsAnE 2 years ago
listen to this guy here. i knew what i wanted to do when i bought the mix amp in the 1st place which was to MIX AND MATCH. i tried the Astros headphones...didn't like em. I've tried Tritton headphones...didn't like em. But my VERY 1st thought when i was even considering buying the mixamp was I AM BUYING THE SENNHEISER 650s FOR THEM!!!! and NEVER LOOKED BACK.
sunshyne19 2 years ago
Dude, you don't even know how much better the Sennheiser HD 650s sound in comparison to the Astros lol. Yeah the Astros do sound pretty good (I've heard people compare the sound quality of them to the HD 555s), but the 650s are just awesome.
darquota 2 years ago
Wow.
That's all i have to say. This is the PERFECT example of someone who THINKS they know everything but really have NO idea what they're talking about. The guy in the video has the best set up the most people only wish for.
UsedToy01 2 years ago
couldnt have put it better myself. i dont know if id make the investment myself though but it would definitely be worth it

Whats better Astro A40's or Trittron AXPro?
P3yt0nMann1ng 2 years ago
neither, if ur gonna compete a lot in MLG and meaning like ur going to every event living ur life off of MLG than get a40s since thats wat they use, i jus suggest finding great top of the line headfones or pc headsets and only buying the astro a40 mixamp
TGSrobskii 2 years ago
HD650 headphones...Excellent choice my friend...Using the same one as well...
Does that mixamp really improve the HD650? Have you done any comparison?
S0lidSnake001 2 years ago

Does any know any Good heaphone AMP for ipod to Sennheiser HD 650 ? and it need to be cheap too! $150 < less, I spend to much on the headphone already:( I need a good amp to full utilize headphone, other ipod sound is so average.

sunshyne19 3 years ago
You know the astro headset has a mic, and you dont need that thing in your face.
DeadBodyDysposal 3 years ago
The Astro gaming headset is actually mediocre. It really isn't worth $200. Astro sells the MixAmp and their headset together for $250 to make it sound like a deal but really, the headset is worth less than $100. The real champ in their lineup is the MixAmp. Just like "sunshyne19", I don't use the Astro headset and used my HD650 as well but eventually I opted for an actual headset so I went with the Turtle Beach HPX. The Fatal1ty pc headset works well too.
noodleninjaa 3 years ago 2
sorry did you say you didnt like the astro gaming headset?
zacharygiddings 3 years ago
they're better headsets out there. i opted for another headset.
sunshyne19 3 years ago
and unfortunately now you have this dumb mic in your face all the time.
Flawless0straint 3 years ago
it's an excellent mic.
sunshyne19 3 years ago
I give up I have so many points to go against your set up my head could explode.
Flawless0straint 3 years ago
It depends on how you game. Obviously, sunshyne19 games close to his monitor like pc gamers do so a desktop mic will suffice. I will safely assume you have not experience audiophile-grade headphones? Your response will be different otherwise.
noodleninjaa 3 years ago
Actually I have a buddy who DJ's and has a high quality noise canceling pair of bose and I know there better then mine but I've compared and the quality isn't THAT much of a difference. And you don't game competitively so your set up is a waste.
Flawless0straint 3 years ago
Yeah, for competition use, an actual headset is a must but this dude's setup will suffice for home use. In the future don't ever associate Bose with audiophile or audio quality for that matter. It makes you look the fool or someone who just plainly doesn't know any better.
noodleninjaa 3 years ago
LOL what?! The bose speaker system has a 5 dome speaker setup with a mini bass in the bottom of the headphone. Sorry but the headset im talking about costs 1200$ its the one that DJ AM uses and they are incredible but sound quality really means nothing when it comes to gaming.
Flawless0straint 3 years ago
Thanks for replying Sunshyne :).

I think I am getting some 595's for Christmas. Which are apparently quite close to these interms of performance.
A4P4P3R 3 years ago
awesome. i was gonna get those but i had extra money so i decided to pamper myself! =) but those will be good too i'm sure!
sunshyne19 3 years ago
Hey. I want to buy the Sennheiser HD 650, but not before I know something. Does it isolate the sound? I mean, can people hear your music if it's loud?
Fiddler222 3 years ago
they are open ear headphones, ppl can hear it a little bit even at full blast you can only hear a little bit.
sunshyne19 3 years ago
can you use a pc gaming headset? with the mix amp?
CKCurley64 3 years ago
I'll give you a better tip twat, CLEAN YOUR ROOM in stead of buying expensive shit!!!!!
StrengthyHonor 3 years ago
MOM?
sunshyne19 3 years ago
You should get a amp for the 650s, the mixamp is no where near sufficient to drive them. You would probably get better sound out of the HD555 undriven.
AidsYouHave 3 years ago
did u get the astro a40 headset and u said that u didnt like them?

his head phones the Ogres use and they cost like 600 bucks!! this guy must be pro lol
cristhestopher 3 years ago
Interesting. I also have the HD650 but does that MixAmp sufficiently and cleanly power them 300ohm Senns? No distortion?
noodleninjaa 3 years ago
I'm pretty happy with the way it sounds. Lets put it this way... I can hear EVERYTHING. The only problem is the MixAmp seems like it can get louder, I mean it's loud enough maybe just a little bit louder.
sunshyne19 3 years ago
SWEET! So the MixAmp can make the 650's bass rumble, huh?
noodleninjaa 3 years ago
HD650's, I love em.

sunshyne19 3 years ago

i just got the bose nose canceling headphones and i was wondering if there was a way to hook up a mic as well without buying a mixamp.. also what does a mixamp do?
meataballa 3 years ago
just curious... how does bose go about carrying out this "nose canceling" feature? I kind of like my nose... gives me the ability to breathe, and smell, and taste, and stuff...
