Sounds to me like he has his own style. No use puttin him in another persons lane. Drummers that keep good time like James Brown drummers are priceless. I don't like a flashy guy. shit for what? Ain't nobody comin to see a stick twirl. Get you sum for a lil bit then get back in the pocket. Carter Beauford is awesome but he stays in his pocket til its his time. People leave soem really unthought out posts sometimes.

If he is such a pocket drummer than why doesn't he do a 5 min pocket solo like Steve Jordan? Those are some of my favorite solos. He could really show off what everyone keeps saying he is.
was the clip at 3:40 mixed? i right now have emperors as batter and diplomats as resonant for my toms on my mapex meridian birch kit, and when i went to studio with them my 16x16 floor tom in the raw mix sounded like a sub-woofer in a loud rap song. i've been looking at changing the diplomats over to clear ambassadors for a tighter, punchier sound, but still has some resonance- just not a big WOOOOMMM. would switching to ambassadors be a good choice? from the sound of 3:40 on its what i need.
Not everyone's a soloist. Case in point. Doesn't mean he's a bad drummer. I'm sure he gets plenty of gigs since in the end a drummer is a time-keeper and the musician that holds down the groove to give others room to solo. Jazz is the only style of music that has room for the drum solo.

i actually do play drums, and this drummin sounds good.... but sounds like he's hitting a bunch of random drums to be honest. is this linear drumming?
@whophead007 Yeah a lot of it is. Linear drumming is just a pattern of hits like a triplet. RLK RLK RLK RLK etc... Though you could change it to get totally different patterns like RLRKKRLKKR or LRKLLRKKR it's virtually limitless but to get something to sound musical and fit the song I guess would be the hard part.
@XxKurt247Xx its really not hard like of course you need a remo powerstroke 3 and that really doesnt sound how good it can sound but its also depending on the mic that there using. i have evans ec2 tom heads and a remo powerstroke 3 bass drumm head and wen i put it on it wasnt even that tight and it sounded sex without the mics to see wat im talking about look at my channel and the video cymbal test demo and listen to the bass drum oh and im selling cymbals if you wanna check em out
@anster2ag Pocket is a feeling! Its the simple consistency of the drive of the tempo of any beat being played! Even bass players have a pocket! Its that thing that makes you bob your head and squint your face. If you watch this vid again try to feel the pocket around the 6:31 minute marker!

Remo, you guys need to work on your quality control issues. I have a set of clear emperors on my kit right now that are wrinkled? Maybe I got a bad set of heads, but I know heads arent supposed to do that and I have retuned them over and over. I am gonna try a set of coated pinstripes and see if the coating last and if they wrinkle, I am done with Remo heads!
@circleslammer dude all heads will have wrinkles in them when tuned very low, you should be able get these out either tuning them up, or placing pressure on the center of the head whilst you tune up from finger tight. it aint the heads dude you will get the same, wrnkiles dont really matter much anyway, i like heads really low and dont mind the wrinkles.
@bentecho oh, well thanks so much! I appreciate the input because I was worried the heads might be bad. I LOVE the sound of my coated pinstripes and I dont really want to switch. I never really noticed a difference with the wrinkles, and when I switched to coated heads, I cant really see them. I have a friend of mine thats going to redo the bearing edges for me to see if that works. Thanks again!!
