I always thought that Leno and Conan would be invincible. In a way where both of them would succeed wherever they went. It's not hard to understand. Conan's rating were poor because his lead-in was JAY LENO's TERRIBLE NEW SHOW! Actually what nbc did was divide the audience, if jay leno didnt have the exact same show an hour earlier Conan would have kept the nmbers, because lets face it. Conan's dreams has nothing at all to do with a business decision made by NBC. Nothing! Conan's viewers were all very young. That means NBC lost all their middle to senior age viewers and that means sponsors that were advertising to middle to senior ages were lost too. Conan never belonged as host of the tonight show, but he still was given a chance and lost! Whin all you wish, but Conan will not be back to the tonight show.

You re forgetting one thing. Sponsors! Sponsors were dropping out from advertising on conan's shows. NBC was losing enormous amounts of revenue from conan's shows because the viewership dramatically declined. NBC had no choice but to fire conan when this began to happen. Advertisements by big corporations reacted to this decline as sponsors pulled out their multiple milllion dollar ads that were supposed to be aired on the tonight shoe.

When Leno was fired from the tonight show nothing happened. When he was fired from his prime time show he didn't make a stink about it! Conan, on the other hand, is the only one making a big deal about it. Conan's ego is hurt so he is trying to blame his firing on Leno. Conan needs to improve since anyone that has any analyical skills could tell he was struggling in many tonight shows. I started to tune out Conan too many nights to watch letterman instead.
Conan has been hosting the Tonight Show for 6 months, compared to Jay Leno's time on it in which is a big profession to manage. Plus, his poor ratings was due to Leno's primetime show at 10 o'clock, which decreased the number of viewers due to his incredibly bad show. If you look at the local-night news, they too had poor ratings due to Jay Leno's primetime show. But the real blame is directed to NBC becuase of their poor management of offering and arranging these shows.
And explaining how Conan is egotistic due to his strike at Jay Leno doesn't really make Conan a lesser person than Jay. I mean this is his dream, doing a job in what many people describe as one of the best jobs in the world. Conan has the potential for it, he definitely deserved it, and meets the standard of hosting it. How would you react if someone or some organization just ruins your dream and steal it away?
Conans viewer numbers must be extremely poor in order for NBC to fire Conan with a contract with $45mm severance. This makes Conan look very bad! The higher the loss for NBC in dollars with such a termination makes the Conan look very bad. Conan was struggling! Viewers could tell that watching him. Just look at the last two Harrison Ford appearances with Conan on the tonight show.
Well I just felt the Oprah interview was all one sided and it was just based off of one opinion. She kept defending him instead if being bias when trying to get feedback on the interview. It is just a thought.

People have short memories - Conan was going to leave NBC when his contract was up unless they gave him the tonight show (he is no victim). NBC didn't want to lose Conan to a rival network so they told him yes. (NBC was betting that Jay's numbers would start dropping but that didn't happen) They also didn't want Jay to go to another network so they offered him the prime time gig. Conan should have just left NBC when he had the chance instead of acting like a prima donna. (Looks like we lose)

Not a lot of people realize this; but Jay was actually second place to Letterman in the begining. It wasn't until Hugh Grant was busted with a prostitue and came on the Tonight Show that Jay started winning in the ratings. Point being, if Conan had recieved half the support from NBC that Jay has always gotten (then and now) Conan's show could have become more successful. But there's only so much you can do within 7 months.

I love Conan and I love watching his show. They talk about why his show was failing in several interviews. For one he wasn't given enough time and he also wasn't given good lead ins like Jay Leno was, which is a huge deal. His lead in was Jay.. and Jay's 10o'clock show sucked.

Conan's dreams has nothing at all to do with a business decision made by NBC. Nothing! Conan's viewers were all very young. That means NBC lost all their middle to senior age viewers and that means sponsors that were advertising to middle to senior ages were lost too. Conan never belonged as host of the tonight show, but he still was given a chance and lost! Whin all you wish, but Conan will not be back to the tonight show.

You re forgetting one thing. Sponsors! Sponsors were dropping out from advertising on conan's shows. NBC was losing enormous amounts of revenue from conan's shows because the viewership dramatically declined. NBC had no choice but to fire conan when this began to happen. Advertisements by big corporations reacted to this decline as sponsors pulled out their multiple milllion dollar ads that were supposed to be aired on the tonight shoe.

When Leno was fired from the tonight show nothing happened. When he was fired from his prime time show he didn't make a stink about it! Conan, on the other hand, is the only one making a big deal about it. Conan's ego is hurt so he is trying to blame his firing on Leno. Conan needs to improve since anyone that has any analyical skills could tell he was struggling in many tonight shows. I started to tune out Conan too many nights to watch letterman instead.

Conan has been hosting the Tonight Show for 6 months, compared to Jay Leno's time on it in which is a big profession to manage. Plus, his poor ratings was due to Leno's primetime show at 10 o'clock, which decreased the number of viewers due to his incredibly bad show. If you look at the local-night news, they too had poor ratings due to Jay Leno's primetime show. But the real blame is directed to NBC becuase of their poor management of offering and arranging these shows.

Conans viewer numbers must be extremely poor in order for NBC to fire Conan with a contract with $45mm severance. This makes Conan look very bad! The higher the loss for NBC in dollars with such a termination makes the Conan look very bad. Conan was struggling! Viewers could tell that watching him. Just look at the last two Harrison Ford appearances with Conan on the tonight show.

Granted, Letterman hasn't been funny but every once in a while in YEARS.... but his stand up was way smarter and more intellectual than Jay's has ever been. I'm a rare breed. I'm a huge Johnny Carson fan. I thought Leno did great during his years. And I'm a Conan fan. I think the show was wrongfully took from Conan. In Leno's defense, he's a workaholic... he's not ready to be out of showbiz. But what happens in 6 - 7 years whenever he's done... he'll be washed up.

It took YEARS for Leno and Conan to hit their stride on their respective shows so ratings in seven months isn't the issue AFAIC.
I can get that Leno realized he wasn't ready to quit hosting but he was the WRENCH in the works of Conan's Tonight show, essentially challenging/further impeding him with his weak lead-in show. NBC was screwing Conan over for Leno's sake and Leno, well, didn't do shit to diffuse the situation he'd helped create. He let NBC break his promise 5 yrs earlier.

People have short memories - Conan was going to leave NBC when his contract was up unless they gave him the tonight show (he is no victim). NBC didn't want to lose Conan to a rival network so they told him yes. (NBC was betting that Jay's numbers would start dropping but that didn't happen) They also didn't want Jay to go to another network so they offered him the prime time gig. Conan should have just left NBC when he had the chance instead of acting like a prima donna. (Looks like we lose)

Not a lot of people realize this; but Jay was actually second place to Letterman in the begining. It wasn't until Hugh Grant was busted with a prostitue and came on the Tonight Show that Jay started winning in the ratings. Point being, if Conan had recieved half the support from NBC that Jay has always gotten (then and now) Conan's show could have become more successful. But there's only so much you can do within 7 months.

I love Conan and I love watching his show. They talk about why his show was failing in several interviews. For one he wasn't given enough time and he also wasn't given good lead ins like Jay Leno was, which is a huge deal. His lead in was Jay.. and Jay's 10o'clock show sucked.

@scootersweet123 to be honest, i don't think they know what's really happening regarding tv ratings... the internet is TAKING OVER, i like using the internet for entertainment more than tv any time. Sometimes i watch cable movies, and catch a few random shows, but definitely use the internet more.

That interview was a huge PR stunt for NBC to promote Leno's show. It seems like that's all he did for an hour, "blame" NBC and try to paint himself as "the good guy" so he could get people to watch him again on "Tonight". I have news for you Jay, no one really likes you anymore man, not after all of this crap. You sold your soul to NBC, you could have walked away.
