For the ones who call it boring: You're supposed to listen to the whole album - and LATE AT NIGHT ! Varg has stated that he creates his albums as a spell, first track to make you acceptable, the following tracks for you to slowly go into trance and the last track to make you dream.... The simplicity of this song gives that catching touch in my view, i think this is one of the greatets hits from Vikernes, and it's my favorite song, it takes me out from this World and puts me in my own mental forest. (Srry for my bad eng)

this piece has some good ideas, but i thought it was too long in 96, and i feel the exact same way, even though i've grown to love minimalism. This, IMO, isn't an example of good minimalism. It takes far too long to develop, and there isn't enough variation or subtlely in the melody to hold my attention for long.

There just isn't enough substance to it. cut the track down by half, and add a few more ideas and it's a definite winner.

i first heard Burzum at a friends house, and the song was dunkelheit. I liked it because it made me think and i thought the melody was so sick. Burzum is more than just a black metal band. Vargs a fucking genius

@skatetolovemetal, as much as I enjoy Burzum's music, you might think twice before calling him a genius if you listen to his interviews. He contradicts his idealogies a lot and at one point referred to metal as "nigger music." He is a unique and wonderful musician but his beliefs are half-baked.

I love the Filosofem vocals. :) I feel it's more appropriate for the style... Take Dunkelheit for instance, it's not a song about hate or anger like songs like War were... it's a sad, nostalgic song, looking back to the days of old in the year ~1000 Norway. It isn't vehement anti-christian themed where the more angry, savage vocals are preferred over these slightly more inanquished vocals. Just my thoughts anyway. :) But I love his old vocals too for those songs.

mm that's a good point actually, I do agree with that one. :) Jesu dod/Jesus' tod in English is Jesus' death, so that's the one more hateful or angry rather than sad, pagan/norsk, or nature-orientated songs. :)

dunkelheit was actully the 1st song he ever composed and mad by himself he dosnt like how the "philosophy" album represent the "new" burzum sound to people,but i agree with some of what you say its more melancholic then anger this would be hes second best album"hvis lysett tar oss" is the 1st and i believe is the best album in existence...

You could hear Burzum finding it's own sound on this cd. Older Burzum style music and vocals were great but it wasn't much different from Darkthrone or some of the others. Varg's vocals are much better on this cd.
