  • i guess theres a difference between experiencing it versus watching it on sesame street

  • Love this..so simple and so amazing! I will have to move when I have my children! :)

  • Haha 2:23 I love the way he says "Outside its ONLY JUST about freezing, so these five years old needs to dress warmly". It sound like he has been told that "only just about freezing" really aint that cold in Norway but he just cant believe it. Normal winter temperature in the winter are about -5 to -15C.

  • This is wonderful! I know there are some outdoor kindergardens in the U.S. but none where I live. Thankfully we homeschool and do much of the same things.

  • I love this video! Quite inspiring! I feel bad about not taking my toddler out on this blustery day now. Of course, he didn't watch TV all day, he played, but we could have enjoyed the clouds.

And those who say the poor do not pay taxes-they don't pay federal, and maybe not state, but they do pay property taxes on cars and a higher percentage of their pay on sales tax.

  • The nanny state's nightmare. Too..many..uncontrolled...factors.!!!

  • i wish i could have that in my country

  • Amazing!

  • beautiful teachers, beautiful children, thank you

  • Oh wow, this is fantastic! Wonderful outdoor curriculum! Very spontaneous, free and easy...no stress....no schedules to meet....just outdoor fun...I just love it.

  • Der vil jeg hels jobbe *.* ! Skal flytte til Norge snart! juhuuuu

  • Now this is what i call proper education. My kindergarten was a complete crap so i had to escape few times which get me into trouble when i was just wanting to do what these kids are doing. I feel robbed now :|

  • Wow the scenery is absolutely beautiful it reminds me of my country New Zealand, situated in the south Pacific. Especially the South Island, minus the prolonged sub zero winter. We share the same appreciation for nature here but it's a shame very few schools allow us to experience the outdoors at an early age like this. I would have loved to attend this kindergarten!

  • No such thing as bad weather, just bad clothes. Never thought of it that way. Quite like that attitude

  • hey we americans when we are or were in Kindergarten we go to the zoo you cant beat that

  • I love this idea! We need to bring something like this to the States!

  • beautiful country

  • Amazing! I liked how the teacher motivated the children to do something very difficult by saying she had a special prize. When educators are enthusiastic in their approach to teaching, children can learn anything. I invite you to check out my channel.

  • This is fantastic! wish that we had something like this in Australia.... well we sort of did when the Aboriginals owned the land....

An appreciation of nature is what is lacking in today's society, Children in particular teens look at a picture of a beautiful mountain stream or other scenery & go "duh how boring" they would rather play games on the xbox/wii/ps2/ipod etc than admire nature in all it's beauty sad really.

  • OMG! A knife in a 5-year-old's hand? Scary!

  • @talkative12 In the states maybe. Hah! I actually moved from Norway to the states when I was a kid and I remember I brought a pocket knife to school and everyone freaked out. Americans really are paranoid. -.-

Then again we don't really have school shootings here so I guess you have the right to be a little more tense.

  • @talkative12 What's even scarier is that some five year olds can't cut their own food or help prepare dinner because nobody lets them use knives.

  • damn! take me to norway! im tired of stupid in-class work, maybe now I can acctually get an A, not a C with a 50-page report!

  • I hope this catches on! Nature should be a big part of everyone's childhood!

  • This is so fantastic, I totally love their attitude towards nature.

  • Olvee- people in America who are poor recieve Government sponsored free health care and can go to very low cost community colleges. No one is turned away because they can't pay and all hospitals have programs in place where a poor person's hospital bill is paid in full fro a fund ste up for that purpose. Please do a little homework before calling me brainwashed.

  • @Bronxloyalist Still, if your poor you are worse off than if you have cash. very low cost community college still dosen't provide equal opportunitys compared to other kids from wealthier families. And btw, a country should be messured by how it treats its worst off, and you guys aren't doing a good job there imo

  • So strange to see how the things we take for granted here in Norway, are revolutionary to others. We get conchious of, and grateful for, what we have. The good side of globalisation. Thank you, guys!

  • yeah American kids would have flipped out they did all that work for a simple medal lol damn shame The kindergardten looks fun though :)

  • I spent part of my kindergarten years in a outdoors one, pretty much like this. We where basically never inside, rain, snow or shine, and I think this is a great way to raise children instead of a pampered artificial state with xbox and whatnot...learning animal tracks and recognizing birds and trees was a fun experience for me that I still value today:)

  • I would have LOVED to have gone to that kindergarten!

  • nice to see Asian and black kids its their country NOW

  • This is brilliant! Light years ahead of our nanny state in the US. Here, it's I CAN'T. There, it's lets have fun, be happy, explore, and do what children should be naturally doing.

  • I went in a "normal" kindergarden (in Norway) and we spent a lot of time outdoors as well! We did have playgrounds and stuff, and the area was fenced, but we had a forest/hill that we played on also. We often went on trips and walked up mountains. I remember that it was very fun and everyone thought it was funniest to go on trips. Im only 14 so it's not so long ago.

  • Norway is amazing! Richest, friendliest, smartest peoples. And have one of the world's most advanced society!

  • What a great Idea. In the U.S. this kind of a set up is badly needed but sadly people here will find a million reasons to bring about a lawsuit onto the school. Here safety has become a national obsession hammered into the DNA of Americans because of insurance companies, or money hungry lawyers.

Norway is far beyond America in so many ways. They might as well flush the whole U.S down the drain all at once and get it over with.

  • We can all learn a lot from this video. Well done. I enjoyed every minute.

  • Hate it when eagles eat my backpack sausages!

  • Dudes here is the reason there are a majority of whit people in norway. Back in the days we did not take slaves, and is we did (the vikig ages) the slavs were usualy whit because we only travled to contryes near norway. Why thre are not many refugees in norway is because there arent that many houses, not many refugges travle all the way to norway cause its so far to the north and we have good law enforcement that find ant illegal immagrits

  • absolutely, awesomely FABULOUS!!!!

  • July 2009: A film crew follows a group of children into the heart of Giant Norwegian Fangbear territory...this tape is all the rescue party found. Of course, that's not what "the liberal media" would have you believe...

  • I hated being in a "Barnepark"....f-ing hated it.

  • Fantastic. I love the whole concept. Everything. Thank you so much for posting this!!!

  • If I lived in a place like those I not only would send my children to the outdoor school, I would live outdoors, it is so beautiful!!!

  • Americans like myself actually love this idea. Its the liberal, nanny state, big brother types who don't want this. The 'Progressives' want to order and direct peoples lives according to their strict 'Let the government protect you' approach to life. That is why they hate the Boy scouts so much.

  • @Bronxloyalist

I'm a social libertarian so I'm naturally pro big and involved government. Our society is based on taking care of each other.

What I'm interested in is what you mean by for instance nanny state.

Is weighting and vaxinating kids at school to keep them healthy nanny-ism?

Is free healthcare and free education to ensure that all have equal opportunity nanny-ism?

What about 1 year maternity leave with full pay?

My point is that solidarity is a package, its does not come in parts:)

  • @TheSaltyAdmiral Sir, In my country being a libertarian means you want LESS gov.I am a libertarian.I know what is good for my kids, not big gov.And your healthcare, education, etc is not free. The tax payers pay for it.In America you have equal opportunity .You survive based on your talent and drive. When the gov tells me what to eat, drink or smoke(I don't smoke)and who I should sell anything too or what job to take,or what healthcare I should use-thats what I mean.

  • @Bronxloyalist Norway is very successful, one of, if not the, wealthiest country on the planet. Us Norwegians are simply enjoying the fruits of our socioeconomic success. If you like you can let people die of simple conditions just because they have no healthcare, or made mistakes (like drug abuse, anorexia, ex...) because of their lack of good upbringing/mental health. America can rot for all I care, I have lived there and a 11000 dollar NECESSARY foot operation is not practical for a single mom

  • @Bronxloyalist - you know nothing about true freedom friend. "In America you have equal opportunity " Is wrong in so many levels. Think about it long and hard. What if you were born into a poor family without healthcare or cash for college. You would be fucked if you got sick, barely get into college if you were lucky enough not to have your family's problems force you to not beeing able to do well in school. I know Im not supposed to be judgemental, but you sir is brainwashed.

  • @Olvee my father was born into a poor family that couldn't afford heath care or college. That didn't stop him though. When I was born we were below the poverty line but by the time I was in high school my father had work us up into the top 10% bracket. he worked his way through college, paid for it himself and without a single cent from wellfare, no loans, and without my mom ever having to get a job. As for family situations that affecting your school, try doing that with 4 kids! It's possible

  • @hgnobody perhaps everyone isn't as smart and hard working as you father, but with a little help they could manage to atleast get out of poverty and thus pay taxes and contributing to a better society.

  • @Olvee people in poverty or on welfare in American DON'T pay taxes and the tricky thing about how the welfare system works is that once you get in the system it's really difficult to get out of. When someone who doesn't have a lot gets to choose between getting the equivalent of $10 and hour without doing anything or slaving away at a minimum wage job will take the easier option. which is fine, but then in order to get off the system they have to get a job making MORE then $10 an hour...

  • @Olvee... sometimes what looks like holding someone up is actually holding them back. Necessity is the mother of all invention and when you don't allow people to fail there is no way for them to learn and to succeed. It may seem weird but unless you've had to be there and make that choice you can't see that you have to sign your life away with welfare. And when did hard work become something only expected of the few privileged? When did school become the only place to get smart or rich?

  • @TheSaltyAdmiral libertarians believe in little to NO government involvement... Liberals believe in BIG government. You would be considered a liberal not a libertarian

  • This is what learning is all about. Well done Norway!

  • Just occurred to me -- if these kids are this advanced at age five, where will they be at, oh, 10? 15? 20?

  • @MidgardEagle probably taking over the world :D

  • Too bad America can't comprehend how WELL this works and how GOOD it is for the children...

  • This is so cool! I wish they had these in America and I could have gone to one :]

  • @Lucailey Haha! Are you serious? Norwegian parents won't sue the kindergardens if their child stumbles and falls over. Back in the day, i went to one of these myself. As they said. It is about teaching children to handle the real world out there in stead of making them believe it is a pink mushy-mushy safehaven.

  • @Lucailey

You obviously haven't been outdoors much if you think this is dangerous for the kids. What could have happened? If the kid had burned his fingers on the match he would have dropped it and started to cry. That's about the worst thing that could have happened.

And how far do you think the kids walked? There was probably a road within a few kilometres at most. Being Scandinavian myself, I think this seems like a perfectly safe and healthy preschool environment.

  • @Lucailey not safe? what? There's a teacher there watching them 24/7, it's not far away from help i can assure you, and plus: all of these teachers KNOW first aid and much more because it is commanded for outdoor preschool-teachers

  • @Lucailey Norway's a civilized country, we've got rescue teams just like every other country. You get hurt, mountaineers or an ambulance chopper will be with you in no time:).

  • @Lucailey About what you said about the mountain... If you are told and taught you from birth how to be safe outside, you just know the right thing to do. Even as a little child. You know the spots your feet would fit. And there is also an adult walking in front of them so they watch where the teacher walks. I know this, because I am one of those kids that have been a lot outside during childhood here in Norway.

  • @Lucailey Didn't you get it Lucailey? They are teaching them to manage risk; shit happens! It is best to know what to do when it does happen, someday they will need to light a match and walk over uneven ground. Cities don't have perfect pavements. Learning how to deal with imperfect situations while they are young enough to bounce is definitely a good move.

  • @Lucailey What is the cost of having your kid light a match? They learn how to do it safely and aren't spending their lives thinking it's an enticing act. What do you think, that the kids are just dropping like flies there? How absurd!

  • This was amazing to watch, being somebody who works with children in the U.K, I was inspired by the film, I love taking the children to new places and allowing them to explore. There are so many restrictions though that stop children being able to live and grow through exploring nature. Maybe one day the UK will catch up with Norway.

  • WOW!!!! I thought they would climb a small hill...but those pre-schoolers conquered a real mountain!!!! Great curriculum, great education!

  • Hopefully this idea will catch on, and I will have to choice to allow my children to experience something like this. Im always afraid that when I do have kids, they will be so influenced by the media and other children that I will not be able to teach them what is truly important. I grew up with my sisters on a lake in Canada and nothing was more amusing than walking out in the forest and doing stuff! Well done Norway...Your a leader for the rest of us haha!

  • @LuchDMac Wow, I hope you don't teach your kids, English and spelling. lol. Yours is awful.

  • @votumseparatum1 Haha I must have been pretty tiered while I wrote this a year ago because it is pretty awful! But maybe next time you could make a comment about the video and not my spelling because it is besides the point and rude!

  • @LuchDMac the best advice i can give you is that when you do have kids, NEVER put a TV in their surroundings...thats the best thing ever for them.

  • Very interesting film, from a very forward thinking country.......Strange though it may seem to some, the subject of racism did not occur to me.Perhaps it was because I was watching the film and not the colour of someones skin...

  • i live in norway and i am NEVER gonna leave this country. its the best that ever happened to me

  • @Bitterlittle Lies :P

  • Your child is prabably going to get beaten the shit out of in school....just saying!

  • @ConcreteAngelx3 definitely not as stupid as you are.

  • @ConcreteAngelx3 If you thought the hammers and nails were bad, I'm glad you missed the scene with the big carving knife :D .

  • @ConcreteAngelx3 My dad taught me how to use a hammer at about 5, I'm glad he did, I whack my thumb far less in later life!

  • Nice school.

  • lol theres heaps of immigrants from the middle east and africa, but still norways got the lowest murderrate in the world

  • This is so beautiful...I´m playing with the idea of building a life in Sweden or Norway...and this Movie is really motivating!^^

Someday I´ll have Children...and I guess it would be an awesome experience for a Child to grow up in such a nice environment...

    Just my 2 Cents,

    Greetz from germany!

    Paul

  • You should pick Nortway. And dont live in oslo. Pick something smaller

  • Why?

  • Swede is great, pick it :)

  • @NookieGuitar There is of course more criminal activity in Oslo than other places and you canbecome invisible in a large city, it is better for you to settle in smaller cities like Bergen and Stavanger, where it's easier to find friends, and if you're thinking about children, it is also easier to find available spots at kindergarten and preschools in smaller cities

  • that would be a great job. beautiful outdoors and teaching / playing with kids. that was a fun to watch . i wish america could be a bit more forward thinking rather than sending their kids to "cyber camp" to stare at computer screens, indoors , under floerescent lighting while sitting on their butts...

  • amazing!

what a great way to learn childrren`s education.

thanks a lot journeymanpictures, i`m a big fan of all your videos.

  • Beautiful...slightly surreal seeing little kids with knives and nails! But can't help but think how many of the problems int he UK could be solved if this attitude to education was adopted.

  • they are too cute XD

  • I like her because she really know way of life by mentioning what God throw at them they will have to take it that way. motivating children it is really good things because it will help them along way.

  • Such a Great thing to see. Truly helping there future Generation

  • Beautiful! :)

  • Thank-you for posting this excellent video!

  • what a shame the rest of the worlds education of children doesnt follow this route, i was lucky enough to of been brought up in the countryside and learned many things as well as being educated in the cities but todays generations would really benefit from an education of this standard solely because our children have lost the way due to our easily following of government guidelines wether we realize it or not.

  • Awesome idea this. Its so true that kids of today are lacking outdoor activities. To much things like Xbox is dominating kids of today.

  • If the UK adopted a similar approach, we wouldn't have such problems here with fat, drug addled, drunk, illiterate knife wielding little thugs that roam our streets. Their parents should be sent to kindergarten too!!

  • tromsoe-Norway!

  • If those were American kids reaching the top of the hill, they would say, "Shove those medals up your ass, where's my X-box?"

  • @akeffo hey we are not all like that, i take outdoor education as well.

  • my daughter goes to outdoor preschool too.i look at her now and think that i made a right decision.

  • we need more places like this!!

  • I wish I had been in a kindergarden like that!

  • AMAZING STUFF those kids will be better developed than otheres in public schools

  • Not just better developed but also healthier. In the UK most kids suffer from asthma and skin ailments. When it snows, all the schools shut!! And the parents are so paranoid, they think every male is a paedophile...what a warped society we live in! Norway shows how it's meant to be done!

  • this shit is public dude, gotta love socialism

  • "asshole my family was in this same patch of dirt before the fucking king of england torched the first capitol of the confederacy"

I believe that you did say it, you moronic taco folding greasy beaner.

  • We weren't a confederacy ever you idiot. And when the Brits burned the white house in 1812 we weren't a confederacy then either you stupid fucking cunt. Fuck Jim Jones that psycho bitch has nothing to do with anything.

  • Misguided

  • America wasn't a confederacy you flaming moron. What 7 presidents came before Washington...oir are you making that up too. Your the reason why everyone despises beaners. And for your info, the French didn't arrive till the last battle of the revolution. WTF is jonestown? Idiot.

  • umad?

  • uhhh it was white people who ruled mexico at that time, france and america. of course i fucking know that shit. lmaoooo "uneducated white piece of shit" hahahaha! will you answer my question already boy? what are you?

  • looks like fun!

  • haha, its like watching children of the corn ;o)

nice though, wish i could have had that.

  • LOL Tromsø

    Ka fan ;)

  • Its not your country your people are from Mexico somewhere. My family has done more for this country than yours could ever dream. When did the king of England torch the firsf capital of the confederacy? Or is that something in your little imagination.

  • you've been on the same patch of dirt for a while huh? lol so answer me, WHAT ARE YOU??? comanche? apache? what? dude, no wonder you resent white folks so much, coz you can't cope with the past. don't even try to turn the tables coz you're just gonna look like an angry cunt, who's anger is obviously compensating for some other.. insecurity. lol dumb fag.

  • you didn't answer my question. and the french were-are-and always have been white so i dunno why you even bring them up. you're fuckin' weird...

  • You are a wretch, BoiGod; pathetic, and due pity.

  • Awesome way for kids to grow and learn in nature. Those nature activities are the things we remeber long after childhood and just great method for real education.

  • ROFLMAO i'm as liberal as they come and i think it would be a great idea, so long as the corporations running them would act responsibly and not mearly profit driven :P

You do realize that Norway is exponentially more liberal than America, right?

  • I wish we had preschools like this in Canada. It reminds me of my childhood, which I thoroguhly enjoyed. Kids are too pampered nowadays - getting outside is just what they need, and will very much enjoy! ^-^

  • Japan has many outdoor pre school these days.infact my daughter goes to one and you can see the difference between normal preschool kids and outdoor ones.its worth it.

  • They need this is America.

    Very good idea.

  • the prepare norwegian children generation for live near the undergroundbais for the elite (2millions ).so well done nwo! ironie off

  • in eastgermany that kind of prescool have exist 40 years ago!so ofcourse english bast.dont pay any docu about it becuse it was "sociaistic" ...ts...

  • Comment removed

  • fuck off prick, i love how the racist mexican starts the argument yet you brainwashed left wing fucks automatically jump on the white person.

  • I wish I had gone to this preschool

  • It's like a younger version of Scouts, but implemented by the state. Awesome idea! :)

And yay, I have cousins in Norway :)

  • funny how you spread hate against white people, for the hate some cast on you?

doesnt that make YOU scum also?

i really hope you dont pass this onto your kids. im young, and i can say when i was in school race wasnt something i noticed. only people like you continue the racism you hate so much. my daughter is 1/2 black, i feel terrible that one day i may have to explain why people use racist words they heard from parents.

please stop grouping an entire race into one hate- its irrational.

  • You guys are all comic relief. Great documentary tho'.

  • Did I see UFO at 2:30 min of the video?

  • you're just digging yourself a deeper hole boi. i'm in texas too, if you hate white people so much why don't you just pack up and move out? that's what we did when we took north america, south america and australia. go to mexico? border's RIGHT there. why don't you go there? NO EVIL WHITE PPL TO TREAT YOU BAD EVERYDAY!! btw reduce carbon footprint? white women aren't the ones shooting babies out their vaginas. seriously, quit being racist, it's 2009. france owned new spain for a very short time.

  • The sexual tension here is quite charming, but not very relevant to the documentary.

Kudos for the vid. I hope these kids find reason to get over themselves when the get older. It's a shame some people weren't brought up with the same affection.

  • I wish we have this program in the USA . White people in our natural habitat.

  • white people are the only reason you're in america, boi. stop whining. are you full blood native american? or what are you boi?

  • Troll.

  • You should shoot yourself for your defective way of thinking, you racist pig. This is not just your home, but the home of many different races and anyone with outrageous claims such as yourself should have been drowned by their mother for being just plain stupid. Do you think your ancestors just magically appeared in north America? We've all come to be here at different times. Get the fuck over yourself, troll.

  • I love that these 5 year old are able hike and be happy, smiling faces while climbing steep parts and the curiosity of other objects as they're hiking. This is great. If I had children I would send them to a school like this. I live in Canada and know there are wonderful outdoor places that can be learned from at any age :)

  • Where in Texas? I'm white and I've had to be careful of being jumped because of my color. My step-father had to do the same thing back in his time. Perhaps being the ignorant racist that you are, based off your posts, is the reason for your experiences. Enjoy your delusional ignorance.

  • Bravo! I hope people will finally realise that the only way to prevent children from hurting themselves while handling sharp objects and burning things as an accident is to actually teach them how to use knives and fire!

I was given a knife when I was 7-8 years old and carefully taught how to use it and now that I'm 21 I still use the very same rules of thumb to use knives. First time I ever hurt myself with a knife was when I was 14 years old and haven't been crafting with them in two years.

  • Its a step in the right direction but still too much supervision. Preschool kids should just run free outside with someone watching over them from a distance. And they sure as hell dont need to be pushed to climbing a mountains until they are in tears.

  • in the caribbeans they actually pushed us off bridges to teach us how to swim of course we did other stuff in much shallower water but in finishing we had to jump over a pier and those that didnt want to where picked up and thrown in i was five then.now when hurricanes come only tourist dies never the locals

  • Negkreyol21

    What allot of crap.

Hurricanes kill most people on Haiti where there are few tourists.

  • in Saint Martin not Haiti i havent lived there
