I believe that there should never be the one religion enforced as compulsory learning at school, unless that school is based around that religion i.e catholic schools. Countries such as the U.S.A, Australia, Canada, England etc. have stated in their consitutions that the government cannot be prejudice or prohibit the beliefs or worship of its people, so why would we teach the one religion(most commonly christianity) when it is not the unanimous religion. Other cultures need to be considered
When I was in Catholic school the teachers there were niether mean nor particularly good; they were just average people. Faith almost never interfeared with the teaching of day to day lessons, save when we had to attend a mass during school hours. This is the experience of -most- religious schools IE: "what religion?"
However, it is not the case with all religious schools, and I greatly fear what the next generation is being taught. Time to give up state funding for all faith schools!

The Father that taught my Religion class was rude and arrogant and eventually I refused to attend that particular class. They even threatened to expel me for not attending. The entire school was biased to Anglican faith and any word against it was shot down as "nonsense". In the end I would deliberately question them just to infuriate them.

My son was forced to go to a catholic school by the local council. As Atheists we approached the head teacher to discuss our wishes for our child, we were told that what we wanted was not their concern, they put god before everything. We asked about them teaching other faiths and we told that the purpose of the school was to teach children the catholic way. We moved our son the first chance we got. He is now in a Anglican school and they teach about all the religions, there is no religious focus

I think it doesn't make sense to teach every religion in schools - it wouldn't leave time for academics. In order to take EVERY religion into account with that system, you'd need to set aside time to teach not only Christianity, but also Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism, Baha'ism, Confucianism, Jainism, Shintoism, Wicca, Druidism, Satanism, and all the other religions of the world. It simply doesn't make sense to dismiss academics in favor of "political correctness."

I think it doesn't make sense to teach every religion in schools - it wouldn't leave time for academics. In order to take EVERY religion into account with that system, you'd need to set aside time to teach not only Christianity, but also Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism, Baha'ism, Confucianism, Jainism, Shintoism, Wicca, Druidism, Satanism, and all the other religions of the world. It simply doesn't make sense to dismiss academics in favor of "political correctness."

this is NOT a complicated subject like some suggest. it's actually quite simple - R.E is stupid, people who support it are stupid, get rid of it, stop preaching like an asshole and keep ur beliefs to yourself.

R.E. IS important, because it helps to explain history to us. However, it should only be taught as a subject in history classes and not be given the same level of attention as history as a whole, or for that matter science or home economics.
it's a sub-category of historic education (like the monarchies of different nations, for example) and should be treated as such.
