Imran Khan talks are the cafe discussions of old Arabs who got too much time. He tries to make things plausible but ground realities are quite different. It is obvious there is not going to be a major shift on the policy issue on Pakistan or Afghanistan because whoever heads the Capitol Hill or the Whitehouse, the general consensus on the region is same among the Americans - Democrats and Republicans. What you can expect is some diversion on logistics and execution means; no end result change.

Not sure what he means by "unnecessary attack on Afghanistan"? The land that trains and produces the attackers, where the Ben Laden is considered a "national guest", and won't give him up. Sorry, but the Taleban needed a kick in the ass...it has been long due. They are not exactly a new faction just arriving at the scene. They have been eying the US since the late-80s. Sorry, this is where it ends, we Americans have to get on with our lives as well. If you don't like the US..too fucking bad.

What Imran Khan meant here by

saying "unnecessary attack on Afghanistan" is that there could be some other ways to pressurise Taliban to handover those who were considered responsible for 9/11. US made the whole region unstable. How many U.S troops have lost their lives for the stupid aggressions of a govt who acted like it were the "GOD". Taliban were ignorant and cruel but look what your civilized, democratic and humanitarian US govt has done?

The Taliban did NOT initially refuse to give Bin Laden to the United States. Mullah Omar told the Americans to lodge a formal extradition request with the Talibans and provide some evidence implicating Al-Qaeda in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The US refused to lodge a formal extradition request to show its utter disdain with international law, which the US violates at will, and it refused to give any evidence because it didn't have any (according to the CIA 9 months after the invasion).

Go and read "Charlie Wilson's war" and you are gonna know that the Bush administration and your national security advisors made you trap in a place which is worse than Iraq. Americans need to understand the Pushtuns psychology and their bloody history against their invaders. How long Americans know Afghanistan... since 9/11! Americans have to know and understand the world outside 'their world'. Come outside the world of "Brangelina" & "John and Kate+ eight" this will make a lot of difference.
