  • even though it wasnt running it was still a great vid I like the history you gave on it

  • nice looking truck first time seeing one

  • The fact that a pickup was the fastest domestic car in it's day shows you a lot about the late '70s auto industry

  • i got a '80 adventurer D150. looks exactly the same inside except mines a 4-speed with a bench seat. its my baby <3

  • nice truck

  • Good project for someone. I hate to see people abuse them or let the waist away. But the good thing is there is always someone that wants one. Mopar or No Car!

  • how much and where?

  • This is like the Toyota Tacoma of the 70's: Small but fast.

  • you done well on the tour.. as I rember this truch when it was on the rd. as i graduated hs. in 80.. it was a very fine machine. and it looks like it needs a lotta work to bring it up to it's full luster, but it has very good potential. thank's for posting

  • My friend's brother used to have a 1978 Dodge d100 with a 225 Slant 6. Check it out if you have time. Typer D10078 Dodge D100. He sold it for $200

  • that´s a really cool truck..

  • the red express came out in 1977

  • chrysler corporation pretty much owned the 70's with preformance i think...id like to see a review of a baracuda or a roadrunner. good review man!!!

  • Im sorry I would have to see it to belive that it could outrun the trans am, camero, and corvette of the time.

  • I owned and raced a 1979 lil red and I have to say that this was by far my favorite vehicle to drive around and the smoke coming off the stacks in the winter time was a cool site. I Embarrassed many camaros and mustangs with this truck, especially when I rebuilt the engine and put W2 heads and a 4:10 geared Dana 60 in the rear.

  • I found a 77 4by4 Warlock and am currently restoring it it has 14000 miles and is ate up with cancer. but after 14 years started on the first turn.

  • @ sabbkyle04, when you get a 4WD SUV, would perfer ford, but when you do, can you do a test drive on it. Also, i would like to see a 2009 Ford Expedition king ranch 4x4 like mines, just to see what i have, and what yours doesn't not trying to be funny. Can u please reply, thanx!

  • I wonder if it's worth trading a '78 bronco w/ no rot for.

  • @alphamongrel You have a broncos. I have a 1993 model and they are good offroader with it's "shift on the fly" 2 speed transfer case. I love bronos. Tell me more about it.

  • whoever buys it and fixes that roof is one lucky redneck.

  • i want this to be my first truck so bad

there are some on ebay ive been looking at

  • I usually HATE Chrysler products, BUT I would LOVE to have this machine!! I can remember when these were new when I was a kid.

  • Amazing truck. You sure dont see those trucks here in Califonia.Nice Rare find.

The fuel filler next to the exhaust is abit silly though :P

  • @2F2FSkyline someone will eventually buy it and restore it to its prime!

  • @saabkyle04 there alot of good junk there LOL

  • @saabkyle04 how much you offering. i might be that person to restore it

  • The original SRT 10!

  • if i where you i would buy the car from the dealership and keep the car and restore the car then sell the car in a auction. so you could have more money ^^

  • @roi432 now that would be awesome!

  • I'll request a hard to find vehicle. A 1967 Ford Shelby Mustang GT500.

  • @Waltazhaar that car reminds me of the movie GONE IN 60 SECONDS.

  • Comment removed

  • @JSneaker I had to do a lot of research for this video haha, I wanted to try and do the best job that I could, as far as I know, it's all correct, I checked many places and came up the best stuff that I could, that would be awesome!

  • just wondering, is it for sale?

  • Beat Porsche 928. Yeah right. With less power, more weight and more aero drag.

  • @fastestlapsDOTcom go look it up then

  • @fastestlapsDOTcom I posted several resources so you can see for yourself, they're in the description

  • @fastestlapsDOTcom Fastest AMERICAN car.

  • i think im calling BS on the performance specs you said. 90s mustangs with about the same power couldn't even pull those times. and why would they put an 85 mph speedo on a truck that could do 90+ in the 1/4

  • @stangkillinS10 look it up, if you were aware of any vehicles back in those day you would know that it was politically correct to have that, camaros, as well as most american vehicles "stopped" at 85 evern though they could do much more

  • @stangkillinS10 I posted several resources so you can see for yourself, they're in the description

  • @stangkillinS10

You are wrong. The Lil Red Express had a good gear for performance. It was lightweight for a truck. Federal law mandated a 85 mph speedometer from 1979-1988. Ford, GM and Dodge all made heavy duty 1/2 ton trucks that did not require a catalytic converter. It was a big benefit for the time.

It really was the quickest vehicle you could buy at the time. I was in high school and remember seeing them on car lots and seeing them in ads. All the magazines talked about the performance.

  • @Greg9942 Your dates are wrong. It was actually from 1977-1990. I've worked for ford motor company, and that law wasn't federal, it was a law signed by the president at the time. ( international)

  • @kendrickevans301

If the dates ran from 1977 through 1990, then some automakers violated the law. The 1978 Chevy truck I used to pull my race car had a speedometer that showed 100 mph. The 1989 Mustang GT that I bought new showed 140 mph. The change to the 140 mph speedometer was made during the model year. The first 1989 Mustangs that I looked at still had the 85 mph speedometer.

If the president of the USA signed a law, how could it be international?

  • @Greg9942 I don't remember any of the cars you listed having a speedo over 85 mph. I'm not saying your wrong. The USA pesident at the time signed the law meaning it is international ( in that specific country) or it might be nationwide. All i know is that it is not federal. I'm going to look at a old book of mines to look up this issue. If i'm wrong, i'll reply my apoligies. But i'm pretty sure i'm on the right track.

  • @kendrickevans301

LMC Truck sells OEM and reproduction equipment for trucks and SUV's. As far as I know they only sell for GM, Ford, and Dodge. You can check their site LMCTruck(.)com for the GM speedometer. They show both the 85 and the 100 mph gauge as being correct for the 1979 model, as though the change was made during the production run for the year.

I don't know of a seller for the same type parts for the Mustang. I can't give you a reference for it.

  • @Greg9942 No No No, what i meant by " a book of mines" was a book when i worked for ford motor company about laws and regulations, i still hadn't had a chance to look at it yet, but like i said, if i'm wrong about the dates i listed as the effective dates of the " speedo law", i will reply my apologies. I didn't mean LMC truck catalog lol.

  • @Greg9942 Greg is correct. I have owned one of these trucks since new in 1979. The 3.55 sure grip that were stock was decent gearing for performance. However; with such large wheel wells it has always been very easy with these trucks to pick and choose combinations of wheel height to gearing to either improve performance. Or tame them down a bit. This can be an advantage in some cases.

  • @stangkillinS10 because of regulations. I've worked for Ford Motor CO. and regulations stated at that time that all speedomometers where to have a limit of 85 mph to deter drives from going over that amount.

  • @stangkillinS10 No, he's right on the specs, this truck did do high 14's in the quarter due to the horsepower, gearing and theroquad carb set up. It was in reality the fastest American made vehicle available in 1979 including the corvette which it out accelerated up to 100mph. After that, aerodynamics played a large role and slow the brick shaped truck down. The 85mph speedo was simply standard equipment for that time era. Remember, the speedo's don't really tell the story of the vehicle.

  • Nice and rare truck, but there was a similar aged Chevrolet C/K pickup that had a turbocharged gas V8 and was even faster.

  • @1bentley4ever the chevy C/k 1500 was no where near as powerful as the express dodge truck. The express dodge truck had a modified version of the police engine. The police engine was already fast, let alone modifying it. sabbkyle04 failed to mention that they changed the police engine from the 360 ci to the 383 superB v8 in 1981!

  • @kendrickevans301 I stand corrected. Police engines are always bound to be good. Is that a similar engine to the engine in the former Dodge cop car driven by the Blues Brothers?

  • @1bentley4ever I really don't know anything about Blues Brothers, but if you know the year of the car, i can tell you what police engine it had in it, do you know what year the car is?

  • @kendrickevans301 1974 Dodge Monaco, but turns out that one had a 440.

  • @1bentley4ever Chrysler Motor Co ( MOPAR) did not have a 440 c.i. motor of any kind. The closest thing they had to a 440 was a 447 and it was not a police engine. It was a big block alternative besides the 383 super b v8 that was standard on the super b. It should've had a 360 ci police engine in it. But if it did have a 440, it was not a Chrysler engine.

  • @kendrickevans301 Hmmmm, but Dodge had the 440, though, right? The 360 is a Chrysler engine, not Dodge?

  • @1bentley4ever Dodge is made by chrysler. Chrysler makes chrysler, dodge, and jeep. They have all the same mechanical components, etc. You didn't know that?

  • @kendrickevans301 I knew that, but I thought that maybe Dodge had a bespoke engine that was only for dodge, kinda like how Cadillac and Lincoln engines are not used traditionally on other cars under the parent companies.

  • @1bentley4ever cadillac and lincoln are 2 whole different car companies. Cadillac is made by GM ( general motors) and licoln is made by ford motor company ( ford lincoln, mercury), so off course cadillac and lincoln are going to have 2 completley different engines. But if a 360 is offered in a dodge cuda, it's going to be offered in the chrysler roadrunner (police car), and jeep wagoneer if you know what i mean.

  • @kendrickevans301 Oh I know Caddy and Lincoln are not sister companies. But Cadillac used engines that no other GM car used. Is the 360 jeep used the 5.9 V8 engine used in the Jeep Wagoneer.

  • @1bentley4ever yep, you are right, the 360 sure is the 5.9 liter enigine. The 5.9 (360 ci) engine was offered in almost all chrysler made vehicles that had a standard v8.. The last vehicles chrysler put the 5.9 liter (360 ci) engine in was all the 2003 pickups and suvs that offeed v8. Sum of them are the dodge ram 03' dodge durango 03, the jeep grand cherroke 03' and many other v8 power vehicles. The 5.9 (360 ci) engine has since been put out of comision, and replaced with the 5.7 liter hemi v8.

  • @kendrickevans301 Pretty nice engine. LA series, huh? The handbuilt British tourers 603, 411, and 412 series used turbochrarged and normally aspirated versions of the 360. The French Facel Vega Facel II used the Hemi 6.3 and 6.7 V8, but its predecessor the HK500 used DeSoto Hemi smallblock V8s. Gorgeous cars through and through. The Jensen Interceptor used the 383 and 440. Some of my favorite cars of all time are Euro cars with American powerplants. Too bad Bentley didn't use Chrysler engines.

  • @1bentley4ever You must have a bentley? I have a ford f-250 king ranch diesel, ford espedition king ranch 4x4, and infiniti QX56!

  • @kendrickevans301 I wish I had a Bentley. I want to eventually get one as a realistic goal for myself. You have a VERY nice fleet there.

  • @1bentley4ever Thanks, i just realized i spelled "espedition" wrong, it was suppose to be expedition lol, but thanks anyway, i love ford, wouldn't have anything else, my wife wanted the infiniti, so what mama wants, mama gets, but i don't drive it, i stick with my fords.

  • @kendrickevans301 Hey, as long as she didn't ask for a smugmobile. But then again, the Ford Fusion Hybrid is pretty awesome. ;)

  • @1bentley4ever i agree, the ford fuzion is pretty nice, bu ti just don't like CARS, hell i don't like anything 2WD for cryin out loud. I love riding big, it makes me feel like a big machoe sitting up high with the 18 wheelers with my 3.5 in skyjacker lift on my f-series. I also like ford's aewsome auto trac 4WD system that engages automaticaly when the going gets tough. But i still have 4HI and 4LO. So me being a big roller, i car just doesn't suit my needs.

  • @kendrickevans301 I hear ya there. I prefer cars mostly because they are more stylish, have better composure over roads, handle better, and have better ride quality. Though I found the Ford Expedition to have a better ride quality than the Chevy Suburban.

  • @1bentley4ever I agree, but i also find that suvs have advantages over cars, just like cars have advantages over suvs, some of the advantages are in a suv, u have better protection in a car crash, more space in which you can carry both cargo and people, towing capability, although i leave the towing up to my f-series, so basically what i'm saying is a suv is sort of a one stop shop, you get space, cargo carrying, towing capability, and protection all in 1 package, something a car doesn't offer.

  • @kendrickevans301 True, I get your point there. And you are on the better side of the incompatibility crumpling in the event of a crash with a car. My favorite truck is the Range Rover, followed by the Porsche Cayenne and the Mercedes-Benz G-wagen.

  • @1bentley4ever oh, so you don't like american made vehicles right? i like those vehicles. nice tucks, but i love ford, i guess just because i work for them lol.

  • @kendrickevans301 I hear ya there. What I like is Cadillac, Buick, and Lincoln. I really love the CTS and the MKS.

  • @1bentley4ever oh yeah, the cadillac cts is a very powerful luxury sedan with its 32valve northstar v8, and we make the mks, i just don't work at the same factory, i'm on the f-series pickup production line as "the marrige" manager, which is when the body and frame unite together. I love the cars you listed, bt like i said, i'm about BIG, so cars are not my thing, but if i had to choose, the mks would be my chose cuz off coarse, we make them lol.

  • @kendrickevans301 The Lincolns coming out are beautiful, and are higher quality than their GM counterparts. Though they are not as stunning to look at. Do you like the Lincoln MKX?

  • @1bentley4ever Yep, but i can harp on this many times, i don't care how much gas rises, i'm gonig to always drive a suv or pickup. When you have a suv or pickup, you don't are how it rides or handles, as long as you don't have " interstate wobble", which is were your tires need balancing or something, they ride pretty good. If you don't think about fuel economy or ride quality, suvs and pickups have all the advantage over cars. but to answer your quetion, yes i do like the MKX, very nice car.

  • thank you !!!!.

1,this ram truck or lil truck or did it fall under a ram truck ?

was this truck in the army ???? when base closed manny of these truck sold cheap

  • @koioo2 The trucks for Dodge were known as the D series back then, they started calling them Ram in 1981. This was a special model for the D series.

  • @datboiwes3 when base closed down these trucks where all sold.don t know if these what army was using was a D version

  • @koioo2 No. They didn't change the name to "ram" until 1980, and they did not make these trucks in 4WD, and the army is not fisen to have anything that is not 4WD.

  • @kendrickevans301 ooooh maby army had later models.

similar to the lil ecpress so now and than you see them sold from a base here

i hope some one restore the lil express.if was back than fastest truck maby today be qwiet fast to

  • @koioo2 Well, one thing you have to realize is that it was the FASTEST TRUCK back then, not the fastest vehicle period. It was plenty of cars that were way faster than the express truck. The engine that came in the express truck (360 ci) couldn't touch today's modern GM 327 ci 5.3 liter v8. This engine has a little bit more of both HP and torque. I don't know about the express truck being faster than many v8 powered trucks today, but it would be in the same category as today's modern v8s.

  • @kendrickevans301 can t compre it with today trucks and cars

model body style is t dynamic.sound like be qwuick truck even for 1978 1979

in general i think V8 power has more than most 6 cilinder or 4 cilinders maby even with turbos.lets put this you restore it is t a lada truck huh ^-^

  • @koioo2 yep, your correct.

  • I dont like dodge but this truck is special and it was fast!!! =D

  • please do a video of a Volkswagen GTI mk4 and mk5. ive seen your video of the mk6, but i would really like if you could find an mk4 or an mk5

    Thanks

  • nice truck i have my 76 f100 stepside on my profile if u guys want to check it out, but other than the engone, this thing is in pretty good condition, oh and i want that cold air intake setup lol

  • why didnt you try to start it u cant take every ones word on a car

  • you should buy it and replace the engine!!

  • I dont see why you wouldnt fix that up you could easly make 10-20k profit on the dang thing.

  • My neighbor has a little red express just like this one!

  • I've only seen one of these in person in my lifetime... and it was in my old condo parking garage, from what I was told, it was sitting there since the 80's cause they couldn't find the owner... Thanks for the post :)

  • awe the poor thing :(

  • This is a sweet truck. you know kyle, everyone complains about gas mileage these days. but for the power and speed of the truck. i say it's all worth it.

  • WTF! that should be fully RESTORED! or never got in that condition in the first place! :(

  • Haha! How would you like to be one of those european sports car enthusiasts and get smoked by a pickup truck. lol

  • Nice, now find a 1978 Midnite Express lol

  • could you do the regal gs?

  • @MrThestig8 already have a regal like that on the channel

  • @saabkyle04 ok sorry!

  • @saabkyle04 yeah, but it's not a gs

  • @MrThestig8 SEARCH NEXT TIME!

  • @k3vanoo YEAH! BUT IS NOT SUPERCHARD SO SHUT UP MFER!

  • @MrThestig8 I don't think they have begun manufacturing the GS yet. Not till next year.

  • Ahhh my cousin has one of these with about 50k on it, but its been sitting in her garage for 10-15years now and not run. I'll have to see if I can get some photos or a video of it, these are way cool!!!!!

  • @mbtoocool That's awesome man, post them on the facebook fan page!!

  • i bet that huge old style a/c compressor takes a lot of power from the engine

  • @infinity3jif yep. infact your right. Those a/c compressors had a lot of resistance on the pully, in turn making the engine have to work a hole lot harder.

  • Good job Kyle. I agree, the hosts of "TRUCKS" need to be told of this trucks existence.

  • For a truck this old, doesnt really look that bad. Just some fixes, replacements, etc and it will be good as new

  • Is this the Monroe Motor Company?

  • @Goldenrod636 yep sure is

  • @Goldenrod636 No, That's his back lot.

  • Sweet truck. This is the first I saw one. Thanks Kyle.

  • sweet

  • The dude liked winterfresh.

  • I think the correct term for the armrest is a "buddy seat".

  • Great video. Such a special truck. Looks like its in really good shape for it's age, too bad it's not running though. I hope one day you'll be posting a video of it all fixed up like new!

  • What a beautiful old truck!

  • i love the exhaust i put that exhaust in my pick up (truck) a ford ranger xD

  • They planing on repairing this truck? Anyway to get a quote on it if it was running? Do you know exactly what is wrong with the engine? No major hidden rust right? Damn i want it :/ Your located in NC right? I do not have the money to do a lot of work on a vehicle right now and i need a daily driver...13 mpg is bearable... Writing this as i watch the vid lol... needs quite a bit of TLC, sheet metal work on the roof...

  • Wow... Whoever buys that is a very lucky person

  • The show Trucks! on spike needs to pick this truck up!

  • One of these is a prize at this years Moparfest here in Canada!, moparfest.ca

  • Nice video

  • why doesn't it have the key lock entry on the doors?

  • That was an awesome truck..... With a little TLC that one too could be awesome again!

  • nice smoke stacks

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sweet! Thanks Kyle I was waiting for this for so long!

  • now thats truck :) with those coustom stacker, does have bad motor :P a bad motor will still crack :P
