Fists and elbows are just as important as knees and feet in Muay Thai, this guy just looks like a regular kickboxer. If he's trained in Muay Thai, his trainer is pretty terrible.

Especially in the first 2 rounds when they just stand around and throw a couple of leg kicks. Just watch some of the fights in lumpini stadium and the other big stadiums in thailand. Australia has some of the best muay thai fighters and even the commentators, Michael Schievello always comment s on how flat footed thais are. BTW, this is the majority oif thais.

Just because lethwai has only wraps doesn't make it more "primitive" or "barbaric"--the muay thai kicks and knees are much worse than a punch without gloves in lethwei (or even with gloves!). A boxer with gloves on hits with over a thousand pounds of force--stronger than the karateka hit with just wraps. And a trained nak muay can knee you in the chest with the force of a car accident. Then watch "Fight Science MMA - Bas Rutten Kicks a Crash Test Dummy". Rutten sidekicks twice as hard as that knee. Strong enough to cause a heart attack just from the impact.
So gloves or not, a trained fighter can seriously injure a person with punches, knees and kicks. However, in lethwei, MTB, american boxing, MMA, etc, this doesn't usually happen, due to good referees and equally matched fighters. The worst that happens is usually only cuts, bruises and breaks.

i m 100% sure that bluepant guy is thai. His kick techniques r pretty different from lethwei, plus burmese dont use that many high kicks. Check out 3:37. He didn't lay down on the floor when he wanted to pause the game which means he didnt fully understand the burmese rules.
I agree. Thai pretty much taps his foot on the floor to set up the high kick. And actually Lethwei likes to use high kick except Burmese are not that refined in their own system as thai are in theirs. Win Tun uses his high kick almost every 15 seconds and
you can see that during the Win Tun Vs Sau Zwair Lay fight (lost his teeth from Win Tun high kick). Burmese dont tap the floor to set the high kick up they run thru it dyanamically.

Lethwei, Muay thai all come from an ancient common root. elbow,knee,fist,leg(shin), same weapons they have. I'm sorry, but this just is not true. Watch "[Fight Science] The Power of one PUNCH or one KICK" on youtube. A boxer with gloves on hits with over a thousand pounds of force--stronger than the karateka hit with just wraps. And a trained nak muay can knee you in the chest with the force of a car accident. Then watch "Fight Science MMA - Bas Rutten Kicks a Crash Test Dummy". Rutten sidekicks twice as hard as that knee. Strong enough to cause a heart attack just from the impact.

So gloves or not, a trained fighter can seriously injure a person with punches, knees and kicks. However, in lethwei, MTB, american boxing, MMA, etc, this doesn't usually happen, due to good referees and equally matched fighters. The worst that happens is usually only cuts, bruises and breaks.

I did lethwei @ age 7 & MuayThai @ 13.I'm going to be 49 & as far as I know 5 lethwei guys died in the ring.

@54living Where did you get to learn lethwei? I train in muay thai with saekson janjira, but I love all martial arts and want to know the difference in technique, they seem the same. I've seen some lethwei fighters but I can't help but notice their punches are sloppy, and some times the fight in a wild manner, or it seems that way to me. Please help clarify that.

both of them look weak and have no muscle. their punches are all horrible, kicks are okay... btw... muay thai is much more effective. reason why it is the most used in mixed martial arts. i dont hear about anybody using luthwei really, cuz it doesnt work.

watch muay thai fighters against burmese fighters on youtube,then tell me which style is more effective.And i'll tell u the reason y muay thai is used in mixed martial arts. Burma is an isolated country due to the military dictatorship, therefore the country and sport isnt promoted by the government like muay thai. Also, tell me which western governments and people in general would agree to do lethwei.

i agree with boedawgyi's comment.if u noe anything about muay thai and lethwei, thais prefer to use roundhouse kicks, elbows and knees while lethwei fighters most of the time prefer to go all out with punches. therefore, it is obvious the guy in the blue is thai coz he constantly kicks and cant stand up and trade with the lethwei fighter. only SOME thais can punch such as yodsenklai and buakaw.

yougaymenot, where is the evidence that there was a tournmament in 1912 when 'all lost against muay thai'. if u want to talk about history and wat has happened in the past, burmese kings constantly invaded thailand with success. this is why even TODAY, thais hold a grudge against the burmese. i noe thai people who openly admit this. Not only back then, but even now fighters from burma dominate thais in the ring.

i m 100% sure that bluepant guy is thai. His kick techniques r pretty different from lethwei, plus burmese dont use that many high kicks. Check out 3:37. He didn't lay down on the floor when he wanted to pause the game which means he didnt fully understand the burmese rules.

I agree. Thai pretty much taps his foot on the floor to set up the high kick. And actually Lethwei likes to use high kick except Burmese are not that refined in their own system as thai are in theirs. Win Tun uses his high kick almost every 15 seconds and
you can see that during the Win Tun Vs Sau Zwair Lay fight (lost his teeth from Win Tun high kick). Burmese dont tap the floor to set the high kick up they run thru it dyanamically.

I love how they incorporate the music into the fight. I was in Cambodia watching the fights, and It's almost hypnotic, to watch them move to the music, especially in the beginning of the fight.

When people were using these ars to protect their land the country and border names were different. So, don't say it's from two different countries. The poster says lethwei is special because it's the science of 9 limbs, but states himself on another video that they don't allow headbutts anymore. Which one is it? Either it's more hardcore than muay thai or not.

Doesnt matter so much, it's the same region, the technique is almost identical, small diferences. Lethwei, Muay thai all come from an ancient common root. elbow,knee,fist,leg(shin), same weapons they have. Anyway it's more entertaining to see a thai/lethwei fighter against a karate/kung fu one :)) . that is fun! muay thai is the best fighting style, with round kicks in force that are waaay more powerfull than other "flying kicks". lacks ground technique..can be compensated with BJJ or judo etc.

Uh wrong, Muay tha is totally different than Lethwei. Headbutts and illegal slams are ok in Lethwei, also foot work is completely different. Bullrush tactics, elephant steps, and leap punch are all absent in Muay Thai.

ok you know better. i didnt said that lethwei is the same as muay thai! it resembles more muay boran or an older form of muay thai, were headbutts etc. were legal. muay thai today it's a sport ring with gloves etc. it's a watered down style. anyway you know better about these two i must admit. i say muay thai is the best fighting style , it's my opinion. yours it's different. another comes and sais TKD is better or wu shu, i dunno. i say muay thai combined with BJJ = great fighter (my opinion)
