  • If you want shit the way they do it in America--keep your gringo ass in America. Costa Rica is already overrun with too many fat US expats and overpriced because of that. It will soon look like the Jersey shore.

  • @goldengyrl2010 EXACTLY! And vice-versa.

  • dude you are so wrong about us been lazy, i know you didn't use that term but the way you said it sounds like it..

i got 15 years in the U.S.A. and i know how lazy white people are, you guys just like the easy jobs here.....'comon don't give me that ...mexicans do the hard work for you guys, i'm like WTF a white guy talking about my country?.....please.....if you don't like it ...don't go there.

i love U.S.A. i live here , if i don't like anything i just shut myself up or leave ....

  • yes,it´s totally true, we´ve got to change, but this is a nice place to live! You´re very welcome guys!

  • I appreciate the information in this video. As far as the comments go there happens to be a lot of racist and generalization comments coming forth. There are crappy people of all races, sexes, and origins. Lets not forget that and the hate that is perpetuated by generalizations.

  • @captainken452 Thanx. Well put. Appreciate the insight.

  • Thump for the Marv Home Alone scream!!!

  • I liked the commentary very much and it made a lot of sense.

  • men how weird is the world..i should b doin a video saying how to get along with gringos in usa xd...ive been 8 years over here n im tired of such a rush...i miss ma culture hard to live aside yours... pura vida

  • @juanpaxp You're right, you should. The 'rush' is one of the reasons I moved to Costa Rica...among many others......hehe

  • I got tired of being charged 10x more than the locals for services in all the Latin America countries I've been to. Because I know Spanish and know the game I payed $5 for a taxi from the hotel to the airport and another gringo I met payed $60 because he didn't know the scam.

  • I wonder if the "Culture Shock" is always at the same level in every country. I lived in South Korea for a while, and I don't think if it can get any different than that. I am moving to Costa Rica and it seems like it will be more familiar of a culture than Korea.

  • Just freaking impressed by the honesty of the guy and quality of the information.

You should succeed in your business, whatever that is, I like you, despite not liking people like you, if you know what I mean... but again, your product, is excellent!

  • @MrSeinfeldFan2 Much appreciated....always nice to hear when someone gets it....

  • I'am from West Indies/Caribiean desent, although Born in New York,I'm used to the Variety of Cultures. Also Im used to Families speaking a diffrent language other than English, and was always raised to respect others. So when I went to Costa Rica in 2009,I was welcome with open arms, like a lost Son from another family.I spoke no spanish yet they embraced me as I learned they culture and language.I blended in well as they thought I was Costa Rican. So I say to white gringos, respect or stay at home.

  • @redcat900 Well said,,,thanx for the comment.

  • why is it only americans or whites have that!! im mex amer i never had a problem adjusting to other cultures!! its a mind thing..or arrogance however you look at it////

  • @alinsatx Because most North American's have a problem with anything that is different from them.

  • @iCostaRica24 yes ellos creen que dios es blanco,y es mas moreno que yo !! its only culture shock when one is out of place NOT the ones already there!! keep in mind thats their home,,,learn it or stay home !!!

  • @alinsatx Actually, I wish more gringos would stay home... we have a habit of f'in up places....

  • @iCostaRica24 i agree. most americanos dont even make an effort to learn the language. when i was in france, guess what ! i practiced my french ! at least to show some type of respect for their home.as well as most visitors to the US all try to learn a little english to come here. only amer are that arrogant or disrespectful to other countries ..no wonder they have issues when they travel......

  • @alinsatx Couldn't AGREE with you more.

  • Excellent point.

  • There is no culture in the U.S., seriosuly.

  • @HappierHealthierYou There is,you just don't see cuz you live there.

  • @repoman174 ok no rich/fun culture...

  • Yea!!! The video was cool.........

  • @saturbo1107 thanx

  • I lived in Panama for over two years and I agree with you. Good, honest video.

  • @cavemanillustrations thanx...appreciate it.

  • Costa Rica is a country of PigAnimals that steal when your back is turned, go through your luggage and hotel room when your gone and take everything you own. Protecting the environment is the least on their list, they sale tours and hunting trips along the beaches to diminish the Sea Turtles and other ocean wild life. Low life scumbags that fill a nation with morons and thieves.

  • Youre an ignorant idiot. I was hoping for some real information. Not you rambling, everyone knows adaptation is hard and norms among different countries are different. You don't have all the answers so please don't talk like you do.

  • @activeride3 I would say it's fairly obvious you want to get with me.

  • Man... for a minute there I thought I was going to hear a gringo nagging about my country. I'm glad I was wrong. You are completely right in your video. I've met a lot of people that came to stay but after a while I hear them saying: we do things different in the States or how do you manage to survive here? Answer: You are not in Kansas anymore and we survive because we are TICOS! Excellent message! Thanks very much iCostaRica24...

  • @VICTORIAY Thanx...totally appreciate the nice words. I wish half the gringo's HERE would move back to Kansas.....they're an embarrassment.

  • ok the way i see it... i LIVE here and being american with hispanic decent , i pretty much have lived both worlds.... what i think is COSTA RICA is not a country for young adults or middle age people... its more for RETIRED people..... this country is BEAUTIFUL IN MANY ways but living day by day is a hassle especially if your use to the EFFICIENT way.....

  • i love your comments. It's right on target.

  • @staceyrica I"m glad a few people think so anyway. thanx, appreciate it.

  • I'm used to having things not done when I want them to be even here in Montreal. Whenever my dad asks the landlord to fix the the walls,it takes them 5 years to fix them and even to this day it isn't fixed :P

  • @beatricexox then you'd fit right in HERE...hehehe.

  • Now I see, your real culture appear easily. Go back, we dont need people like you promoting Costa Rica, using that king of language

  • What are you doing here? Go back, we dont need people like you.

  • @lamo2004mail What am I doing here? You dumbass, have you seen our like 200 videos promoting COSTA RICA as a great place to travel and live....... fuck you.

  • @lamo2004mail question is, what are you doing here?

  • @iCostaRica24 LAMO2004mail does not speak on behalf the "ticos", I've taken the time to check out your channel and let me tell you I appreciate the insides and tips for tourist 'cause the more they know, the better they prepare to come visit Costa Rica.

Anything that help tourist to avoid a awful situation... God knows this ain't a perfect country, but you can have a great time with the right directions

    Keep up the good work

  • @juanjillocr thank you....that is precisely want we are trying to do....not bad mouth,,,just prepare people so they have the BEST time every. Hellooooo Costa Rica ROCKS!

  • ...por variar unos gringos quejándose del país, si no les gusta porque no se jalan y ya dejan de hablar tonterías; como si los yunai fueran la cuna de la civilización y la cultura.

  • Also, if you have this, I'm American and you shall bow down before me attitude, you obviously have not traveled the world. Because alot of people don't like it and they think you are ridiculous. I've seen it and it's embarassing.

And another thing is, why do some Americans think that Costa Ricans dress "American." Who is entitled that "privilege." What do some Americans think....Costa ricans should dress in 1500's traditional style clothing everyday?

  • I absolutely love your message, it's accurate, culturely sensitive, and completely honest. I'm Costa Rican American and have lived in CR and also lived in the states, so I am aware of both cultures. It's nice to hear it coming from an American perspective. CR is not the USA. So why would you expect it to be like the USA.

People who have this ideology of expectation are travel virgins--not enough international experience. This is probably the first time they traveled outside the US.

  • nice video, you have some points... the best advice to live here is dont be a fool xD. greetings :P

    Pd: I am tico.

  • @ElotroyoxD true that.

  • Hey Michael, great video! I was thinking of visiting and if I like it moving. I think this video is excellent and if I come hope to meet ya. Take care, Kepha

  • @telarad613 Thanx, glad you liked it. I'm still here, so if you visit, it's possible.

  • @MsBixy thanx. I'll take pretty good.

  • Hey bro as a Tico I'll like to thank you for making this videos!! I hope you are having a good time in my home country.

    Wish you all the best.

  • @crismesa I LOVE your country....more than mine even.

  • i guess this dude havnt been in the deep south... What a culture shock. Here in the south of the USA everything is slow. People don't work, are lazy. They are all on welfare. They are not performance driven. A church every mile... You wait here forever to get something done (like someone working on your house)...Gosh should i continue.. what a culture shock... oh yeah I am from Costa Rica...

  • @twoshoesmagoo Generally people from the south don't move to Costa Rica... most gringos that wind up here were, or are successful go-getters but just want to downsize....or live a simpler life surrounded by beauty.... and really, no one MOVES to the deep south,,they were there in the first place.

  • @iCostaRica24 ... i hit a sore spot... i know a lot people from the south who are moving to costa rica. i also know quiet of few people who are hiding in costa rica if you know what i mean. wink wink .... oh lets be honest, everybody is moving to the south cuz its CHEAP!!!!

  • @iCostaRica24 oh and most people that i know from the states that live in costa rica are not go-getters... losers if u ask me.

  • @iCostaRica24 oh and most people that i know from the states that live in costa rica are not go-getters... losers if u ask me. and move to costa rica to afford things that cant afford in the states

  • @iCostaRica24 oh and most people that i know from the states that live in costa rica are not go-getters... losers if u ask me. and move to costa rica to afford things cant afford in the states

  • Subscribed!

  • @Alouette1968 SWEET!

  • Im American of Costarican background, The American culture does suck. All we are is money Hungry and nothing but working alot. I have been to other countries and I might say the way we live in the usa sucks

  • @yanks2233 That USA culture is why you and most of the world have antibiotics, cars, electricity, computers, jets, internet etc. That same sucky culture freed 1/2 billion people on earth and kept communism at bay for most of the world. No argument, Costa Rica is a wonderful, relaxing country but you have no understanding or appreciation of the greatness of America.

  • @garybsg AMEN!!

  • @yanks2233 that is why... we are a world power... ur ignorance baffles me.... america is a MELTING POT full of many cultures... maybe you haven't studied that in your history book

  • As a costarican I love the paradise that God gave me as my country, but there is nothing perfect. This video is very right you have to be very patient to live in this imperfect paradise. You have to live with the "Tico time" if you suffern of anxiety if you want everything right away this is not the place for you. In the other hand Costa Rica is the happiest country of the world, we (Ticos) share our happiness with everybody just "no rush".

  • @DrVegal Nicely said.

  • gringos describe ticos as some kind of mars alien,a piece of unknown material that should be study,99% of expats live in a fantasy American world expats in CR are lonely or their friends are usually expats and if they have costaricans by their side is either hookers, nicas hookers or nicas, or polos(hill billie tico)or a young chick thinking expats are loaded $ or a polo dude thinking he would be his best buddie and could become rich with a gringo by his side.no lie do ur research

  • @Lambeestaca Sorry, my experience is obviously much different than yours..... and come on, 99%.... pa leez.

  • @iCostaRica24 only 1% of expats do learn and practice spanish. respects and gets involve with CR with out bitching and complaining and not taken advantage of ticos nor govt benefits a1% that adapted to the CR society and people consider them to be good people. The rest?not so much they still demands ketchup at la sodas

  • Don´t listen to this fucking Asshole , probably he was rapped by a gringo xD !!! I am costa rica and we are not as stupid as Lambeestaca

  • @vampoxxx your a sell out and an ass kisser unfortunately there are many like you just like I describe on a previous comment from days ago.look down on the previous comments from others and youll see Im not alone you ball licker you probably especting a green card you scum bag

  • @Lambeestaca someone is a sellout because they have knowledge and experiences different from your own? Gringo's and expats in general are as BIG of mix as anyone else,,,you got your good guys, bad guys and everything between..... you make an over-generalization and you think people aren't going to call you on it?

  • I don't understand why this person is saying all that crap about Costa Rican

People I've got family here and they work so hard everyday.

The matter with him I think is that he just had a bad experience working with a tico guy that was a lazy person. I also think if you're trying to do some marketing with this video you should do something more intelligent..Also if you are not satisfied with Ticos is much more easy for you to go somewhere else.

  • This jumping through bureaucratic hoops and waiting hours and days for people to show up sounds extremely stressful. Doesn't sound like "living" at all to me.

  • OMG YOU ARE SO FUCKING STUPID NO TRUE ABOUT WHAT YOUSAY WHAT ARE YOU DOING THERE YOU DONT LIKEI GET THE FUCK UP OUT OF COSTA RICA FAGETTTTTTTTTTTTTTT.

  • q mal me cae este HP

    cuando venga a jaco avise.

pa darle tetica un rato PLAYO

  • Hey Michael I'm from CR.I live in US since 1996 and I'm a professional Roofer, I'm responsable quick and very efficient. I agree with you when you say that we work to live and you know that's why we are not as stressed as the American

people, any way, I like your comments but please don't say " THEY " why don't you say " Some of Them " instead. For example, I can't say : " All the American people is RACIST " that wouldn't be fair don't you think ? Thanks GOD BLESS AMERICA ricky010754@live.com

  • thank you, this is very helpful

  • @EhsasJan you are welcome, glad it helps.

  • as a costa rican i completely agree with what he's saying.

  • Dont say Ticos are not efficient nor quick , the public system is like that but not Ticos in general, and we are also very hard working people we dont live to live.

  • @sealoco2000 I love this country....and maybe you are efficient.....but be truthful....this country is all about the 'process' of things....and it's L-O-N-G....... tedious...inefficient..... it's true 90% of the time.......

  • Well I am a Tico and I dont like what you say in this video, I find it very bad when I hear you say that we do not care about work , we have to work to put food in out tables just like everybody else in the world, but anyway you have the freedom of speech to say whatever you please and maybe this is the concept some foreigners have a bout us and I respect their opinion.

  • @sealoco2000 I can only talk from my experiences and observations.... obviously, others have their own..... But my intention was not to offend, if I did, I apologize.

  • @iCostaRica24 Saludos, I really enjoy you channel honestly and I accept your apology( I just needed to speak my mind and stand up for my people ) PEACE AND LOVE IN THE WORLD NO BOUNDARIES NO RACE WE ARE ALL THE SAME. Lets love and respect each other .Pura Vida Mae !!!

  • @sealoco2000 true words indeed.

  • Michael, you ROCK! Good truth telling. I lived in the Yucatan for a year (1 hr from Cancun) and learned these lessons first hand. LOL wow that was an experience cuz I am, well, a recovering type A perfectionist. I want to retire in CR next yr. I'm going to watch allll you vids and subscribe. Thanks so much !!!

    Dee Light

  • @MsSuccessMaker THANX..... really appreciate it, you have no idea. pura vida

  • it sounds like hell..... with nice beaches

  • @georgeworthmore If Costa Rica is hell,,, what's the make the States? lol Really, it's only difficult if you didn't know what you were getting into in the first place.

  • this is a great video man.

"dont come down here like an american" lol make me laugh abit.

but your points are exactly right.

  • @TokyoBrando thanx, appreciate it.

  • excellent honest advice! thank you!

  • @LaAerial U R welcome.

  • Michel good advices no offense but some people front the usa I notice that when they move to our country some not all think that we're the ones who have to change to suit them and don't work that way is like the people moving to the usa from other countrys I am sure U.S. citizens expect these new citizens to get used to the us lifestyle learn their language Costa rica is not different we expect that the new residents moving to our country do the same and with time learn our Spanish .

  • @ticos08 No offense taken. You are right.

  • if you don`t like it!!!! so leave it!!! go back where you belong!!!

  • Hey man, great video! I've been living here for the last four years and am just about to have my permanent residency. When I first got here, I was pretty much by myself and felt the full effect of culture shock for quite a few months. I was living in Rohrmoser at the time, and have since moved out here to Orosi. This is by far the best place to live on the planet. Life is simple, the beer is pure, the women are beautiful (in&out), and narry a republican in sight. Great work, keep it up!

  • @CatSassProductions Not a republican in sight...... that's reason enough to move there....hehe. thanx for the comments

  • @CatSassProductions

I am a republican and I am on my way over.. I guess there are a few arrogant liberal weirdos in Costa Rica as I can see from your post. For your information, many so-called Costa Rican liberals are more conservative than the so-called conservatives in the USA. I wonder how gay pride parades are tolerated in Costa Rica compared to even most Republican USA city.

  • @777Yonatan

republicans don't belong anywhere. the control mentality, the giving of money from poor to rich, the attitude that the environment is to be abused, the attachment to blowhards like rush limbo and pawn hannity, trying to defund npr, the racism, the arrogance, all of this is not ok. republicans need their own planet, not earth.

  • Soooooooo True!!!! Good thing im NOT type "A" LoL

  • I am from Costa Rica, and all he already said its true!

  • we are thinking about coming out here to see what its all about.would like to see what its like to live here.what would you say is the best place to live i love city life.um. thinking of renting a place for 6 weeks, is that long enough to see what its all about.thanks Maureen.........

  • @IRISHZON 6 weeks is good as long as you use your time wisely. city life is fun to 'go to' but you probably wouldn't want to live there. Barrio Amon is nice though. Escazu is nice,,a suburb of San Jose. Santa ana. There's a million great places to live around CR,,but again, there's a LOT of 'depends'.

  • Like lower slower Delaware!!!

  • I just wish you people try and live in Haiti or some other place. Costa Rica has all the basic nesesities nailed down. The burocracy...well dude... you are a foreigner and you need to learn how to do things, even if you decide to live in France, things are going to be different. Oh and by the way I went to CR and renewed my passport, license and ID...in the same day, you just have to know how to do things.

  • LOL I love him , huge DMV

  • There's a lot of thuths in this video - I stronglly agree that if you're type A personality you're going to have a hard time living in Costa Rica.

  • THIS IS REAL ////LISTEN.

  • Excellent message. Very accurate.

  • hahaha I laughed my ass off when I read ''This is referred to as 'Tico Time' '' soo true dammit, but really... it annoys everyone. I'm starting to think we love annoying people. We love to annoy ourselves in the best ways possible with lots of.. lines and.. bureaucracy..and stamps..

You'll be making a line for 1 hour just to find out you were following the wrong line so you'll go to the ''correct'' one spend another hour just to discover whatever you want to do can only be done on Tuesdays.

  • @BBZZZZZ hahahhaa.......so TRUE.

  • you've done a service to the morons with type A driven personalities, they don't belong there, i've been there many times for months at a time and have never been more embarrased than when i wittness their public tirades when something doesn't suit them or isn't done to their specifications or isn't available. they belong in their early grave not Costa Rica. !

  • @LarkaSojourn haha...not sure if they're quite morons.....maybe a little excitable though..... thanx for the comment and I hope it serves as a reminder to those that are a little on the 'aggressive' side...

  • Thanks for the "honesty". You mentioned some things that I had not even considered. Especially...the type A personality. I have a little of that. lol

  • @SUCKMEISTER005 Thanx..glad it could help.

  • Thank you this video was very informative. You are a wonderful speaker.

  • @dawns31 thanx. Appreciate it, glad it could be of some help.

  • are you trans?

  • @lyriclex no, but sometimes I look better than other times.

  • I want to add my appreciation for the dignified way you added your perception and disription of it omn this segment of YouTube. I found it informative and probably very much applicable to my own type of Character. I will be cautious not to make a long term decision till I actually lived there for a awhile.. BTW, I found absolutely no condemnatory attitude on our part but rather sincerly pragmatic and thank you for that.

  • nice place to visit. lousy place to live

  • how hard is it to find work

  • @hurricanelogan Short answer- hard.

  • What's up with all the comment haters? I thought your video was fine. You didn't criticize either the Costa Rican culture or United States culture, you simply explained the difference so people could make an informed choice. Nice job.

  • @pyromarketing THANX, always nice to hear from someone that gets IT how it was meant to be gotten.

  • @iCostaRica24 I want to add my appreciation for the dignified way you added your perception and disription of it omn this segment of YouTube. I found it informative and probably very much applicable to my own type of Character. I will be cautious not to make a long term decision till I actually lived there for a awhile.. BTW, I found absolutely no condemnatory attitude on our part but rather sincerly pragmatic and thank you for that.

  • @OLDERBLUE THANX.....appreciate the nice comments.

  • So if I ran a business for ex-pats that got a job done quickly, would I be popular?lol

    Love your vid!

  • @LabRat6619 haha....not only popular,,,,,,u could make money...

  • @LabRat6619

Yes, because getting things done not only quickly, but well, and honestly, are values that are sorely lacking in Costa Rican culture. I used to complain about service providers, contractors and government agencies in the US, until I lived in Costa Rica. After 3 years there, I returned to the States and never complain about anything here anymore.

  • @BristolPalinsBabyDad Yeah, Costa Rica is definitely not for everybody....and I too often have a difficult time dealing with what you mentioned.

  • Did and still sounds like you putting tico down maybe its just that all the ticos are doing your jobs here too since you know whites don't like construction either

  • If you don't like Costa Rica get out of there...instead of making it sound horrible I live in USA for 20 years and it is the same here there is no difference get out if you don't like it there

  • @bolitika69 turn the sound ON and watch it again.....and pay a little more attention.

  • If you don't like Costa Rica get out of there...instead of making it sound horrible I live in USA for 20 years and it is the same here there is no difference get out if you don't like it there

  • great videos!! keep doin more

  • THANX. that's the PLAN. lol

  • haha....that could be true.

  • I'm glad you love the country I'm from.

    Great videos

  • @keduardop YEs I DO. I love living here.

  • Costa Rica judged by a Gringo... yes ! another one, cause we, Ticos, have to much gringos in this little country ! Question: is the Estados Unidos full of people ? This "caballero" forgot to tell u that we speak normally spanish and we would like to heard this language in ur mouth, firt step to meet and undestard the country who receive u... But, he is right: u will never be in the Estados Unidos, but in Costa Rica, a foreign country. Kisses

  • I can judge Costa Rica, I live here and experience it everyday......and I happen to LOVE it here. I agree, although Spanish is difficult for me, I want and (should) learn it. I thought I mentioned knowing Spanish is a 'good idea',,but if I didn't, I should have. If I wanted to be in the US, I would be, I prefer it here. Thanx for taking the time to comment.

  • No pongas palabras en mi boca al decir we, que a mí el video me parece excelente e interesante. Si el hombre ha hecho el video en inglés 1-Es su rpoblema 2-Está dirigido a público de habla inglesa.

  • fantastic buddy, your info is very informative!!!!!

  • muchas gracias jason.

  • Heading to CR in Mar 2011to check it out. Sounds very appealing. Good advise about being quiet and listening.

  • Thanx unfretted, appreciate it and I think you'll like it here......

  • hey mike,What do you guys think about people moving to Nicaragua? Is that a good idea?is it safe?

  • If we didn't live in Costa Rica, we'd live in Nicaragua...L-O-V-E Nicaragua.... we've NEVER had a problem there....

  • @iCostaRica24

BTW, do you happen to talk about how the Tico feel about and treat the Nicaraguans? Essentially, Nacaraguans are to Costa Rica what Mexicans are to the US. They love the cheap labor and turn a blind eye to the illegal immigration, but then look down on them, treat them poorly and blame them for many of their social ills.

  • @BristolPalinsBabyDad I would talk about this in on my blog, but I probably wouldn't post a video about it. We try to keep it mostly about traveling here in regards to the videos...although we do touch from time to time about 'living in CR as an expat' with our interviews etc., but Costa Ricans take negativity very PERSONAL (check OUT our DRIVING VIDEO for examples of this) and we do LIVE here. I can get very critical on my blog and do,,,,but videos not so much. But u R RIGHT.

  • @BristolPalinsBabyDad Very true.

  • @BristolPalinsBabyDad You have any personal experience to back that comment? It is true in part, but you have to ask the many people that have been muged in the street by Nicaraguans. As a person from the US you cant get involved or critizice unless you are direcly affected by that situation.

  • @contact1araya

Yes I do have personal experience. I lived in CR for 3.5 years and saw the racism again Nicaraguans first hand. We had a few working in our office and other workers there treated them like second class citizens and whenever there was a problem, the first inclination was to blame the Nicaraguan. I also saw how a number of my coworkers, friends and neighbors treated their Nicaraguan maids/laborers and was not impressed.

  • haha 6:40 man michael you are spot on with this part. and the picture is so funny. great point. ive been here for a year and a half and thats the best advice i'd give anyone who's coming here to visit or live.

  • haha....boston....appreciate the nice words...pura vida

  • Hey iCostaRica24, what city do you live in? I lived Tamarindo and rented a place for 3 months back in Jan - March. I just loved it. I am considering buying a beach house there in the near future. What a Country. Your a lucky man. Pura Vida!

  • yeah, it is pretty SWEET to live here,,we're in la Fortuna, home of the Arenal volcano.... Actually, good time to buy,,,you could definitely get a deal..... back atcha. thanx for the comment

  • hahaha, well yes, its kind of true. anything that has to do with public/government controlled stuff is very very slow (paper work and those things). it depends also with the people you work with, because there are some who really don't give a dam about work, but there are others who do care. now, its almost impossible to find someone who works two jobs at the same time, such as some US people. about time, all i can say is that generally everything starts about 15-30min late...
