I was lucky enouph , upon retiring in 05, to buy a 999r and still grin from ear to ear on it. Thirty one thousand miles and still peek at it out in the garage before going to bed. 65 years old and still ride like a 20 year old nut case.
Ducati build some beautiful machines. I'm a huge fan.. It's just a shame some of us have a family to support, or we'd all be able to ride something as awesome as this. To date, the only other bike that I've heard outroar one of these is a Honda VTR SP2 1000, and that had twin Akroprovic cans.
I'd love a Ducati. But it looks like I'll remain a firm Kawasaki supporter until I can afford one. Lol!
You have no idea do you? 2 yamahas still are not better than 1 ducati. Its like saying you would buy 2 Fords instead of a ferrari. Like I said NO IDEA!!!!!
I agree yamaha and rossi are going to be hard to beat and I am a big fan of rossi but yamaha motorcycles in general although very nice they are just not a Ducati, sorry....
@LEEBLANTYRE good comment mate, but its early days yet. remember that compared to the big4 the triumph, in its present day form is still very much a beginner, yet its makin damn good progess on home ground. pls dont knock home grown stuff, its your support they need, not your criticism. stand up and cheer for it, be proud, we may get there yet. i see the triumphs at J.T.'s dyno set up in swadlincote and they are fuckin sexy little bits of kit, that can kick serious ass.
its not just the speed, it has an onboard computer with adjustable traction control which can prevent highside flips, its made with alot of carbon fiber, and its pretty much the best bike on the market today
every time i see a 1098r i get a tingling sensation in my nether reigion, thats why im the proud owner of one, doc 46 dont dwel on ducati past, you know how awsome they are complete with reliability these days. dont be a green eyed monster it gets you no where!!! woop woop!!!
these bikes are not rubbish, too heavy? at 165kg its lighter than the gsx-r1000, too slow? with 180 horsepower and 0-200kmh in just over 9secs its faster than the gsx-r too, as for the engine its proberly one of the best made lol please don't talk as if you are stating facts if you know something then share but if its your opinion then say so.
you are right .. i bet the lobotomsed critics have never even ridden one....are they pimply faced 16 yr olds who have old posters of harleys on their walls and spend their days and nights playing on playstation munching popcorn dreaming of maybe one day having a girlfriend once the acbne scars heal. I have ridden these bikes and they ARE awesome!
i got an old yamaha iv ben ridin for the longest and im outclassing my bike so i need to buy a new bike , plus im done with my savings so if the r is the best from ducati im thinking between that or the bmw superbike
they r both soo sick its hard to pic i gotta test em out first
i just cant see the 1200cc being justified here...
this is like something that american car manufacturers would do, just crank up the engine capacity by 20% just to be able to be in the same league as the competition
It's not just that mate! It's got some pretty cool "accessories" too only found on proper race bikes... This is simply Italian exotica and there's a market for it, just not as big as for the Jap litres...
its not just a bike that is there by itself, it is made to compete with the jap liters, and straight away gives itself a 20% advantage... makes it feel like it creates its own class to just be able to compete with the jap class
did u read that in a magazine ? i bet u dont even ride bikes lol ps. Ducati make the machines out of greater quality materials compared to japanise bikes. hmmm jap bike at 100 thou need complete engine rebuild, Ducati never needs engine rebuild ever and will out last its rider in years \O/
re. your comment about the accessories are alot of baloney- is a false statement, Ducati's cost more for a reason, and last longer as a result. and im not arguing a point that i made up. Im teling you why ducati's cost more compared to jap bikes =D
and the accessories are a lot of baloney, and are there to help the 1098r riders sleep at night, by justifying the triple price by thinking that the little accessories make them special and somehow superior to jap riders, while in reality having an inferior machine from an engineering point of view
notice that im not saying that its an inferior bike or that its slow... just pointing out that to be up to the game they NEED the 300% price of a japper and they NEED the 20% jump over the jappers
With accessories I am talking about the slipper clutch and true race traction control... Not the pipes etc. Anyway, I'm not selling bikes for Ducati so I agree to some of your points, but at the end of the day the Jap could also have done this.
@stimpyman007 200 more capacity, and the 2 lost cylinders is a choice made by Ducati... if they choose to make V twins, they must think they're superior...
@lobzdik Eh, it's not that. The problem is displacement, bikes produce very little torque because of it, so upgrades can't go as far as they can on cars, it gets to a point where unless you want to bolt a drag turbo to the side of the bike, you gotta bump the displacement, else-wise the companies spend way too much trying to nickel and dime the horsepower. So the main things they get going is weight and power.
@lobzdik U FAILED big time, it's simply rule... dude twin cylinder bikes can have displacement up to 1200 ccm, in liter competition, and in "600 cmm competition" its up to 600 for 4 cyclinders,3 cylinders up to 700 and twins up to 850... it's no accidental that daytona is 3 cyl. and 675. 848 is twin and it's 848 and jap 4 in line screamers are up to 600...it's just rules dude
@igorgrubac nope, u just an idiot. i said I DONT LIKE ITm i don't like these rules, I believe they are biased and should be different. i cannot fail at my own opinion, get a clue
@raptorama no... not just like any other supersport. The fuel mapping is distinctly difficult to work with on ducati's. meaning that modulating throttle control is difficult and clunky... so rev matching and corner exit speeds are difficult to judge and adjust. It is widely know that ducati's and most v twins and v4s are the most difficult bikes to manage. yes of course any fast bike presents a danger to an inexperienced rider... but its especially so with ducks.. even for experienced ones.
@raptorama From my point of view he is far from being a legend. In 14 years he managed to win one! single race and that was on a 250cc.A legendary looser who crashed a lot and took away sponsor money that lacked on the other side to support more talented riders....but I dont want to sound too harsh...he could of course beat me on any machinery any given day, but I never atempted to make a career out of it.
