If ya want professional results I'd get the 3M kit it comes with all the stuff you need, I haven't bought it, but my buddy did and he said it worked great.... Of course you could just buy polish and start scrubbing away, may take a lot longer though.
FYI I look purposely at peoples head light lenses, wondering why they are yellow. In my 47 years of owning cars, my present cars being an 05 Buick and a 06 Grand caravan. Neigther one of them are scratched or discolored, and both sit outside 365/7 and are carwashed. A simple soap and water is all it takes to clean those lenses. Anything stronger takes off the protective coatings. Sooo happpy scrubbing and polishing my friend.
I bought my car new 8 years ago. I've never polished the headlights (or any part of the car) or otherwise scrubbed at them. They've been pretty foggy for quite some time now.
I'm sure different cars use different plastics so they differ in how susceptible they are to this, but headlights getting scratched up and getting foggy over time is normal. If you think it's only idiots who polish them then then you aren't looking at very many cars.
i notice only idiots who polish their head lamps when they polish their cars have this problem. Stop trying so hard to polish everything. your head lamps will look good for ever. the old glass headlamps never had this problem. the new plastic lenses break down from the polishing compounds

Hey everybody. Colgate whitening toothpast works like a charm too. Make sure the tooth paste is a white toothpaste. If you don't believe me type it into youtube. It's funny that this is my same exact car too.
This is one way to get the haze off your headlights...this guy is very good at what he does....it will take some time to do it this way...what I recommend is a soft cloth and soft scrub....after the haze is gone use a good car wax on the lense to protect it...
DO NOT EVER USE SANDPAPER ON PLASTIC LENSES YOU WILL RUIN THEM..
What's funny about this is I did all of these steps and STILL my headlight is yellow and dull looking. The other one came out really clear though. I even tried cleaning inside the headlight thinking it was dirty but it's still yellow...Can anyone give an explaination why this is happening??
@bloodntearz I did and one headlight turned out great the other was yellow and I had to get another one at the scrapyard after trying it again both headlights are clear. It does work but I would just use 1500 grit sandpaper and some rubbing compound. Wet sandpaper it for 5 mins then use the compound and the headlights should be pretty clear.
@crazyskater05 the headlights turn like that because of the suns UV rays and oxydation. if you headlights arnt that foggy looking you could just use a dap towel and toothpaste rub in circular motion over the headlight then let it haze then wash it off if it still looks a little foggy just repeat the steps again
I usually use a D/A sander and start with 400 grit on the super-rough stuff....then work up to 800-1000 grit. Finish on a buffer. Works like a charm, but i realize not everyone has access to the tools required.
Sorry, I should have been a little more clear...I remove the headlights from the vehicle first. As a side note; if the plastic has oxidized badly enough, there will be tiny "stress cracks" and distortions all over the light. In this case, you can still make them 20 times better than they were when "foggy", but they will never return to like-new condition. Hope this all helps.
Yea I was wondering about that...I've had my fair time with DA's and I know how unpredictable they can be (jumping and pulling). Thats why I was stunned when you said you used a DA sander. I picked up some stuff from AutoZone this morning hoping that would work out for me..But I dont think its going to be what Im looking for..I have an 89 Bronco and the lights are extremely faded out..@ 179.00 a pop I'm trying to get them cleaned without the expense of buying new ones...Thanks for replying
I have used wax (auto and household floor wax) in the passed. Initially it works but a few months later it turns yellow again. I have a 2000 voyager that fogged up really bad. It looked like they were painted light yellow. I used a micro fiber cloth attached to a sanding pad for my cordless drill and some turtle wax polishing compound & scratch remover like in the video. Took about 20 min per headlight, but they now look new again. Then used the same equipment to polish my van.

A DA sander on your headlights?...Are you serious?..Are you taping off the paint surrounding the area prior to sanding?
