The first time I saw Dusty was on TV one morning .She was on a wierd show on TV . I thought she was an idiot or something. BUT,,,I can tell you that I fell in love her that day and have loved evey record she has put out ever since. Now I am old and have a computer and can listen to just about anyone or any kind of music. To be honest, lip-sync was almost a necessity back then. There were no really good, really SMALL mikes and the TV studio boom mike was - to be blunt - a pile of cr@p for a singer. You needed something really close to the lips to do proper singing. The (so-called) cardioid pick-up pattern was developed for a reason, and the boom mikes couldn't do it. They were omni-directional.

After watching all these old videos, it's become clear to me that in the 60's and early 70's, the artist had little influence (if any at all) if he/she were to sing/play live, or do the lip synch thing. It made little difference if the artist was a superstar, or just the current flavor of the week - it all seems to have been dependent on which show was airing. Even if some of the shows were pretty loose (for the era), management was still very staid - they didn't want any "nipple slips"!! LOL

I do love Dusty Springfield and this song sounds good enough but those hand gestures of hers are very childish and annoying. A perfect example of why a video for every song isn't always necessary and can actually detract from the music. Yes this is Dusty Springfield at her grooviest and I suppose the video bears witness to this, if only it weren't for the hand gestures and unnecessary changes to the lyrics. Still, any Dusty Springfield is better than none.
