Der Freischultz is one of the finest German contributions to the planet. And the Wolf's Glen scene is the top of it. But this post AIN"T it!!! Its awful. Can't anyone of this beautfiul opera post something more top drawer? You know with Hildegard Behrens and Dietrich Diskau? Rene Kollo? etc, etc. There are gotta be better rep's of this on YT besides this turkey of a production!!!!!

Der Freischütz is not so naïv as it seems at first sight . For example , Kaspar talks about the "magbeburger Tanz" , which means he took part to a massacre during the 30 Years War . So , fantastic doesn't mean out of reality , but perhaps hidden horrible reality .

There were still a lot of wars at this time , and even folksongs tell us remembering of battles and deads.

Btw , Weber introduced folk tunes and kind of fantastic tales .
