I have a dog that looks just like a Kai but it has a white spot on its chest, spotted tounge, and it isn't brindle. does anyone know what it could be

@ralphherge she does control all the other dogs in the neighbor hood but is only noisy when i come home from somewhere

@Genya89 all depends where in the world you are. There are breeders in North America, and some starting up in Europe as well. I ship pups overseas on occasion, so where there' s a will, there's a way.

Awww, the puppy was cute! Kai Kens are amazing dogs! They are strong and can beat Shepherds at guarding. But only strong willed owners can control them. I've read they can be more aggressive then the Akita if not trained well. Other than that, they are amazing dogs

omg i want one of these dogs sooo bad. they say they climb trees and are excellent guard dogs! there is like no breeders though... do you know where to find them?

@icepath22z Kai are great dogs, though they're not for everyone. If you want to learn more about them go to nihonken.org It's a forum for Japanese breed enthusiasts and owners. I'm not sure what country you're in so knowing that would help in pointing you toward breeders. There are several breeders in North America, one of them is Classy Kennel. A quick internet search should do the trick.

@Kthewalrus Do they breed healthy, good dogs? I know a lot of American breeders working with exotic dogs tend to take short cuts and sell dogs that aren't in the best condition or temperament...

@icepath22z my mom said she will get me one during the spring or sometime before my grandma goes back to peru i heard they were used in battle in the old japanese times im getting a puppy so i can train it when its young i heard they live around 12-15 years

The tenrankai is held on the first Sunday of April, and the last Sunday of October every year.

Kai are larger than Shiba, and smaller than Shikoku and Kishu.

There are a few breeders in the States, Classy Kennels being one of them. Your other option is to import.

Kai are amazing dogs, but don't fit everyone's lifestyle. I'd suggest doing some research on the breed (if you haven't already).

There's a site called the Nihonken Forum with lots of info for prospective Japanese dog breed owners. I definitely recommend taking a look at it.

By breed standard, all Kai are brindle, but there are three different types: Aka-tora (Red), Chu-tora (Medium), and Kuro-tora (Black).

Have you ever seen Ginga: Nagreboshi Gin? It's my favorite anime, and it has three Kai dogs named Akatora (Red tiger) Chutora(middle tiger) and Kurotora (black tiger). I never knew it was a breed standard :3
