Sorry, but if you haven't done anything wrong, you don't have to provide anything to a cop. Period. They need at the least reasonable suspicion to request ID. Children, when an officer asks you for your ID, give it to them. Police officers are not your parents that you can ignore, they are servants of the public good, and that doesn't necessarily mean they are there to serve you. This all could have been avoided is she just gave her the ID and she got the officers badge number. Both things are legal and she could have walked away because the officer had nothing.

Cops break those laws anyway, because the more people they arrest, the more money the state and city makes off court fees. Sorry, but if you haven't done anything wrong, you don't have to provide anything to a cop. Period. They need at the least reasonable suspicion to request ID. Taking pictures at a Critical Mass ride is not reasonably suspicious activity. Like most, I would take the easy way out & fork over my ID, but I admire people who stand up for their & our rights. I know I'm wrong for not standing up for my rights, but people who condone this type of police behavior are way beyond wrong.

As a former law enforcement person please explain why the captain issued an instruction to grab and arrest a harmless young woman for taking a photo on a public sidewalk. This supervisor need a serious departmental repramand and reassignment to a detail that does not require inteligence. I would love to read the report submitted by the supervisor. she wasn't riding her bike on the sidewalk. After Officer Pogan viciously shoved an innocent man off his bike, a lot of people gathered around to watch and record what was happening. She was walking with her bicycle in her hands, not riding it. Are you aware that she was never sitting on it at any point in the video? Also, it's perfectly legal to record police brutality. And she was screaming to get people's attention, not because she was "emotionally disturbed".

Guys If you dont know the Law then dont open ur mouth, every thing they do is right (Some times mistake happens they are humans too), My parents got ticket too. That dont mean I got license to act stupid in front of cops. Any thing you do wrong you have to pay. Welcome to NYC.

Its a law in NYC, you are not supposed to bring bike on footpath, the lady officer ask for her Id to give her a ticket but she ignored her and keep walking, now the cops try to arrest her, she started acting stupid. You deserver when you do some thing wrong in New York, Dont think you can get away.

The Asian girl on the bike with the childish kiddie helmet knew perfectly well was she was doing. More than likely she was told not to take any photos before their friends started filming, and she then went ahead and did it while they filmed knowing FULL well she was going to be detained and arrested. If anything, these morons are the "fascist" pigs and not the NYPD.

You can comment on an officer's IQ when you garner the ability to spell and use sensible grammar.
As for this little event, she should have complied with the original officer and most certainly shouldn't have resisted arrest like that.
All she would have gotten was a simple violation/infraction for the bicycle, but now she's most likely looking at Disorderly conduct and Resisting Arrest.

@jy5636 It is a fact some states do not recruit officers above a certain IQ, look it up. This girl did NOTHING wrong and this was a total infringement on her rights. It is not Nazi Germany and no one is required to show there papers without probable cause, this does not include taking pictures in a so called free country. This is why they want officers with low IQ, to obey there orders without question.
