  • if any one is thinking of making an ev dot use sla batts they are a waste of money and are no good get some lifepo4 i got 21a/h out of a 20a/h/48v pack running at 32amps wows thats good i would get 3a/h from a 48v/20ah/slapack see the difference allso lifepo4 dont sag on the voltage my bike using 48w/mile on road 78/w/mile off road 0.5p a mile:)
  • problem is that LiFePO4 batteries that can supply the necessary current (32A is not enough for a full size motorcycle!) are not cheap.

You're talking ten times the price of the SLAs, to get double the range at the most.

I've done the calculations, and compared the available batteries.

Going with SLA meant I had a working bike with enough range for my purposes, and the battery pack cost AU$230

  • yes they can there 12c

    so a 48v 20ah pack can supply 20 x 12

240 amps how many amps u wanna run:)

thats about 11kw per pack :)

and the weight of sla there damn heavy

but yer your right the cost is way too high at the moment but u get 3,000 cycles out of a lifepo4 with very little voltage sag sla's are really bad for v sag and are v inneficient when u pull high amps

  • i guess when the new opel electric cars come out in 2012 it wll bring the price down

im not dissing your bike i think its great

its just would be tens times better with lifepo4's keep up the good work:)

  • my next bike is having lifepo4 :)

  • Hi Andy. I've had my project on hold for a while now, due to being in college at the minute. Just wanted to say that I think that's one of the louder electric bikes I've seen a video of - is that sound entirely the chain?

  • There will always be chain noise man. It was a bit noisy but not really any more than Jozzers RS. EVMOTORCYCLES are not completely silent, they do make a noise and to be honest it's not too different from the noise of a regular motorbike without the exhaust sound. IMHO they sound great! >:)

  • Ah yeah, I didn't mean it as a criticism, I just don't remember ever noticing the sound off one before.

  • Not taken as one mate! >:) A lot of people seem to think that these vehicles are so quiet that you can't hear them coming. Perhaps with a belt drive and low profile tyres you could reduce the sound, but in fairness, every bike I have heard has sounded more or less the same.

  • There's a friend of mine saying he'd give me an old CZ 125 that he's got sitting around for a good price, so I might look into getting that off him, and putting a wee electric engine into it - you may be hearing some stupid questions from me soon, in that case!

Are you still living down near Dublin, or have you moved to Austrailia, if you don't mind my asking?

  • Yeah man, I am now in Aus for a while. Plenty of EVMOTORCYCLE stuff happening down this way. Should have some more videos up in a couple of weeks! >:) If you decide to get the CZ, try to make some video and take pictures of your progress. I am sure it will be an interesting project.

  • Very cool guys!

  • awesometastic!!!

I'm jealous of the weather andy...

  • Ha Ha yeah, I'm slowly baking here! >:) It's funny because I took a spin on the bike and when I returned we removed the saddle and thete was a BIG female redback spider just sitting there! Arghhh!!!!!

  • That's just part of the true blue Aussie experience :P

  • Nice Job
