"Slick" usually refers to the cloth, where the balls slide more easily. In the video, we simulated a "slick" cloth with Silicon spray on the ball.

New and clean balls will tend to slide on the cushion more easily and rebound longer than older and dirtier balls. It also makes sense that the rebound angle might be more consistent with new and clean balls.

@DrDaveBilliards When a player asks the ref to clean the ball during a tournament, is the player trying to make the ball as slick/new as possible (so his calculations would be more consistent)? since the cloth should be very clean at a tournament the only thing could matter for the "slickness" is the cleaness of the ball.

The most important reason for cleaning the balls is to prevent "cling" (periodic excessive throw), which can cause missed shots. For more info, and demonstrations, see "cling" under "throw" in the FAQ section of my website (the link is in the video description above).

@DrDaveBilliards thank you, how would this idea of "slick" come into play in a tourney? what would anyone use the knowledge for? since most tournament tables are fairly clean.

If the tables you play on all have new and clean cloth of the same type, and the temperature and humidity is fairly consistent, then kicks and banks will come off rails as you might expect. However, if you play on a table with cloth "sticker" or "slicker" than normal, you will need to adjust.
