Why would anyone visiting Oregon waste time in Portland when it is one of the ugliest parts of the state? Rent a car and see the real Oregon, not the urban infested habitrail that is portland.
Do you live in Eugene or something? Certainly there is a tons of amazing natural beauty here in oregon, but I would say Portland is certainly a worthy stop.
I agree with the Saturday Market, definately a must do! On my list would be Powells on Burnside, truely euphoric and of course the Rose Test Garden just to see it in all its blooming splendor! All the green spaces are truely a bonus, trees downtown, trees trees everywhere, hills and views galore it's definately precious in most every way!
even when the rain stops it keeps on coming with all the fountains you can go in :D
