  • it was a brilliant concert..and when it started to drizzle..during when the levee breaks..an eerie feeling

  • I was there but much further back. Great vantage point. As a native New Orleanian, almost cried when, a few songs later, they did "When the Levee Breaks". Thanks for this post.

  • no one could make gloom appear so embracable!

  • king of sofa kings of elves

meet queen of weight and might

  • It aint Sandy but she'll do

  • That was awesome!

  • He can still get the job done and she sounds fucking great next to him.

  • he is singing very good!

  • Krauss does a fine job here. There was only one Sandy Denny ans I'm glad that that she did not try to copy her

  • Surprised you got such a good video, from a bootleg, and so close. I swear, Plant looked at me!

I think the Audio is great, and while Krause does bring some more of an american country feel to her backing - for some reason I was imagining what this song could sound like with Stevie Nicks & Plant -

the ending note was enough for me to forget that thought.

    thanks Alison, Robert & Sharktooth!

(& props to Sandy & Pagey, of course :) )

  • Alison makes this her own version - not a 'doomed to fail' attempt to copy Denny but a real version that I think is superb. Before the Sandy fans start defending her memory - I loved Sandy to bits BUT just imagine that this was the first time you'd ever heard this song. Could you fault it?

Alison K. seems to have been around for a long time for such a young looker. She's not yet 40 but I've been hearing her for over 25 years. Full marks to her.

  • It's a nice version, but I prefer it with sandy danny

  • where there is RP, there is LZ....wow

  • Lovely, can't fault allison krauss, and robert plants voice is holding up really well.thanks

  • awesome

  • Thanks mon....Dig it..Is this "in stero"...She has some voice, but it is harder to hear it live...

  • I wish I was there,

I'd be jumping up and down

    like a SADU

  • am close to tears poor sandy denny who gave this tune its true version..

  • This is a wonderful version. I saw Page and Plant play this on their tour after the unplguged album and Najma Akhtar sang it as well as anyone.

I wish Alsion Krauss had been on of a set of twins, one with her singing talent and one fiddler. She's so good at both - an incredible fiddler, and it's a pity she hasn't made more recordings on the instrument!

  • Wow just amazing.

  • Best version since Sandy Denny. Thanks for posting. This is a special song for me - OM

  • I was at the show....they totally upstaged Sheryl Crow, who admitted as much when she hit the stage...thanks for the load of this and the memory remembered

  • Alison can freaken sing too.

  • wow this is really something

  • Is that John Paul Jones on mandolin???

  • no it is not him.

  • kinda looks like him

  • she has a voice on her but is a skinny lil runt. Is he boinking her? Praps he is a bit old for that now. The mix of voices reminds me of REM/B52s on Me in honey and chinese nappy people :-)

  • Shiny Happy People

  • @UberNoobtard

Not JPJ on mando - though he is a great mando player. It's Stuart Duncan - the great fiddle player for the Nashville Bluegrass Band. I believe that's Buddy Miller on guitar - nothing but the best Nashville musicians for Plant/Krauss

  • AWESOME!!!!I It's wonderfull to see god Robert and Allisson sing toghether.

  • thank you. i just saw robert at a WOMAD festival. what a guy! Too fanatastic to describe!

  • I've seen several videos of them doing this song - this one is the best so far! the more their voices intertwine and interact the more I like it

  • Check out the Nashville show. They even shake hands at the end as they both know they nailed it. I hope they continue to make new music together...

  • 1:31 nice note, mr plant

  • WOW!

  • Amazing, really a great performance of this wonderful song!!!!

  • I agree. This live cut rivals the original version I think. Gave me the chills listening to it. Allison really does this song some beautiful justice and Robert's voice sounds more alive than I've heard it in years.

God bless Allison for agreeing to do these Zep cuts. She sounds amazing.

  • AWESOME.

The first version I've ever heard that rivals the original recording.

  • I bought Led Zeppelin 4 the week it came out, in it's big old lp-sized cover. I cherish Zeppelin, learned to play in large part by listening to them and copping the licks, made money in bar bands throughout the 70's from that knowledge.

This is awesome. This makes Zep 4 live again in the 21st century. Purists of any stripe just don't understand music as a cultural phenomenon.

  • I really dont understand all the haters out there. Their musical fusion is what it is.

    I find this overwhelmingly fantastic!

  • join the space bar !

  • Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr jealous much?!?!?!?!

  • Great performance!!! The perfect song for them to sing together. A fine homage to Led Zepplins' unique and progressive musical style and abilities!!!

  • great!Song needed a more epic voice she has a more childish one but its still amazing!

  • why does everyone have such a problem with them? they mesh, so to speak.... i love zep, but that just won't happen. lol thanks for the clip. :D

  • goooosebumps!! very good upload. wish i had been there

  • Nice upload-thanks! Her voice blends well with his-just wish he'd go back

    to Zep!

  • Sweet Jeebus, that was amazing. Two of the most amazing voices in music hands down. Plant still has the chops and they complement each other very well.

  • yeah, one of my all-time zep favourites! tho all of their songs are epic

  • Really??? It's all a matter of taste, although this version is interesting, I definitely prefer the Zep or the Plant Page ones.

  • What does it matter if the lyrics are "ridiculous" (they really aren't bad, but I guess that's just your opinion)? This is a great song either way.

  • You're a fucking idiot dude. If it were not for Robert Plant's production, this album would be far from good. And the Batle of Evermore is a good song with or without Alison Krauss. You don't know much about music.

  • All that matters is that your comment got 6 thumbs down!

  • seven now haha

  • Comment removed

  • i think thats true but i think its because they dont use plant right. he is mostly sublimated to her voice, rather than offsetting it. this song is a good example of how they should have done their album.

  • IM FREAKIN HORNY! M

  • This was the best show of the fest this year by far. Great opening day.

  • ahhhhhh.......1977. Feels good.

  • bummer he decided not to tour with page, jones and bonham. frankly, i suspect it's just physically impossible for his voice to withstand that at his age. hope he continues to find musical projects that inspire him and let him cover new musical ground. and i look forward to the album by the band that would've been the new led zeppelin.

  • robert plant.. wow, still singing in 2008.

At this point you realize what a good singer he was, and how he kept going after Led Zeppelin's breakup...

I mean, they all kept going...

  • Saw them last night here in Seattle. It was really really special.

  • hairs standing on the back of my neck!

  • This might sound a bit hippie-earnest of me, but this kind of struck a chord for me in a timely, resonant way... just the vague sense of paradise lost in the song... "bring it back"... the U.S. currently at an extremely precarious and scary turning point, "the Ring Wraiths ride in black"... kind of conjured up in my mind's eye those elusive slaves to their own power who hold our country in a strong grip, the Oil Elite, possesors of the POWER... WHAT WILL THOSE SOON TO INFLUENCE OUR DESTINY DO?>

  • WOW!!!! How in the hell did I not find this sooner? Dang, Robert hasn't lost the Zep sound at all. Alison sounds terrific on this. Must have been one hell of a show...Thanks for posting this for us all to enjoy.

  • really nice

  • Amazing!

I am sick that I missed it.

    Was this Jazz Fest 08?

  • Yes, opening day.

  • Wow, Alison has a really nice rock quality to her voice. And Robert sounds really soft and nice. It sounds perfect. It gives me the chills.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROBERT!!! :D <3

  • rock on Plant! and why is he always with that girl? and happy birthday to him on Wednesady! he turns 60!! :D and still rocks

  • My Wife and I were at this concert and it was absolutly spectacular. We bought Jazz Fest Tickets just too see them. Wow, it was amazing!

  • Wow robert plants still a really good singer

  • Holy shit, I just got chills!! These two are amazing together!

  • Check out Evermore in Nashville. Whew, she rips...

  • Great Duet! Would loved to have Heart do this song. Somehow, this sounds like Heart w/ Plant.

  • Heart do do this song...lots of times...

  • What is wrong with some of you peaple? This song sent chills up my spine and back down again! Incredible duet.

  • I do think this is awesome, so don't call me crazy ... BUT, is this one of those "you had to be there" things, cuz watching this one song (which is much better to just listen to than watch), I'm not feeling the chemistry between them, or between them and the audience. They just seem to stand there kind of aloof and belt it out, but where's the love? :-)

  • good god...plant can still lay on some face melters like he used to...

  • lol a face melters a guitar solo

  • anybody who thinks this is not awsome is crazy!! we saw this show live and it smoked. alison & robert plant are awsome together!! sometimes preformers like to try a little something different. it keeps it fresh. and there is NOWAY EVER that bruce springsteen is anywhere close to being better than robert plant at anything! or alison for that matter!!!

  • I was there for this--incredible show! Was there for Plant, but Krauss gained a new fan in the process.

  • Led Zeppelin were Plant's take off, but he's flown far, far, far beyond what Led Zeppelin were. There's a reason why he decided to go solo. He needed to see and do and learn a lot more than a late 60s-early 70s Brit-style rock band (even if they were LZ) would let him do. Look what happened to the Stones who never broke up. Great, great band--but basically fossilized now for 30 years.

  • Just saw this concert on Monday 6/23 at Greek Theater, LA... fantastic! Having seen Zep in the 70's, I knew what Plant could do, but Alison Krauss is a revelation...she stole the show!

  • This is nonsense. What it could have been with his band!

    Jimmy rules!

  • Stuck in the past...

  • don't know if your a Zep fan or not... Whenever I hear a former Zep member playing Zep music I'm tempted to think they're stuck in the past too, and yet they wrote some incredible lyrics of their own (they did a fair amount of remakes) and The Battle of Evermore has a sentiment that still resonates; until the balance is brought back I hope to keep hearing this song done passionately.

  • you do know this song is about lord of the rings right?

  • is that john paul jones on mandolin? looks a bit like him

  • Googling suggests it's one Stuart Duncan, a name unfamiliar to me. He's damned good whoever he is. This is amazing.

  • i does kinda look like john paul jones a bit, thats why i thought it was him

  • That is indeed Stuart Duncan. He's not only Alison's favorite fiddle player, but one of the best musicians on the planet. He usually plays with his band entitled The Nashville Bluegrass Band.

  • Thank you TBONE!!!!!!!!!!!

    thank you thank you

best cd ever made this last decade

  • indeed \o/

  • Saw them at Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado last night. It was MAGICAL. Best concert I ever saw too. When they sang this song I thought I died and went to heaven.

The audience was on fire.!!! I could see in Robert and Alison's faces they too where in heaven.

  • When they played this this past saturday in Asheville I almost died! Best concert I've ever been to!

  • man...i was at the plant/krauss concert in MD it was awesome! my first concert and i got to see robert plant!

  • This song is finally getting the attention it deserves after 37 years of being ignored by the critics. Thanks for recording it!!!

  • perfect song for this duo

  • plant still sounds great.

  • Alison is my favorite bluegrass singer...LZ is one of my favs of all time. They're so great together.

  • Thank you for posting this. They are incredible together. I bet it was a hell of a show.

  • Thanks for posting this!!!! I'm seeing P/K in a couple of weeks and I sure hope they include this song. Sandy and Alison are two of the finest female singers Robert could have ever hoped to sing with, for sure.

  • I was at this show and it was absolutely AMAZING!!!

    BRING IT BACK!!!!!!

  • Had to miss this day of Jazzfest so I could go to school and fail a damn French Test. This one of my favvorite Zeppelin songs, too.

  • i didn't know this tour was a led zeppelin concert...

  • Be still my heart!! MAGIC!!!

  • top among my favorite jazz fest experiences!

  • Best show ever! Alison does an amazing job on backup. This song is just the bomb. I can't to see them again at Bonnaroo and onward!

  • No one can ever top Sand Denny.

  • Except Alison Krauss ;)

  • Sandy is in a category all her own. I bet if Sandy were alive and still singing, Plant would have easily chosen her instead of Allison. I do like Allison, but Sandy has a special place for me. :)

  • You mean chosen her to do the whole album with? I don't know... and anyway, you have to admit Alison (with one L :P ) does sound good here (and you don't have to compare her to Sandy, just see it as a new thing). Then again, I love the whole album so I would probably love anything these two sang together.

  • Have you heard the song Alison did with Ann Wilson? War of Man, it just has a sampling of Alison's vocals. Anyways, I do like her, and I meant Sandy just singing on this song. I don't mean to slight Alison, but Sandy just touched me at a certain time in my life. Either way this is good. :)

  • I've never heard it (and I can't find it on YouTube hehehe). I didn't even know they did anything together! How do their voices go with each other?

  • Beautifull song, amazing!!1

  • at last the legend is reborn

  • Amazing

  • omg, i was theRe!

i had tears in my eyes the entire time!!

these two have such chemistry it gives you chills; they compliment eachother on many different levels and, in my opinion, are not quite as unlikely of a duo as some would care to think.

and i just have to add that

oOoOohh, that man still has it

after all of these years, haha!

(i just wish i could've seen the zepp of old rather than resort to dvds and vh1 classic, hehe.)

    <3

  • in 6 days i'm in Bergen, watching these two.. My god I can't wait!!!!!

  • please post the whole show.

  • HOLY SHIT

  • Finally, a backup singer that does Sandy Denny justice!

  • Definitely a bit of the old magic here. Krauss' voice works well and lifts the song. I got quite excited midway through. Good luck to them both!

  • I literally got chills the first time I watched it and still do sometimes! I think she does a great job with it.

  • For someone (Plant) who hated stage monitors his whole career, he seems to have bought stock in a company that makes them. He has gone from no stage monitors to standing in the middle of a monitor farm. Perhaps spending too much time in Kiddeminster.

This is outstanding! So nice to hear a live version with a better backup singer (sorry JPJ).

  • Do any of you Alison Krause fans notice that the more popular she becomes, the less she plays the fiddle??? In fact, does she even play the fiddle anymore?

  • well..first off it's Krauss not krause ;)

And you must have somehow missed the vids here of "When the levee breaks" or "Black country woman" or "Please read the letter"! or on the "raising sand" cd "sister Rosetta" or ( my personal favourite) "Nothin' "! :D

  • I second that! :)

  • OMG OMG OMG! You have NO idea how happy I am that you posted the whole song! I think it sounds absolutely amazing! Thank you so much! *****
