my friend just got introduced to the joshua tree and he loves it... i told him well buckle up cause achtung baby is a whole other beast and in my opinion their best album.. he listened to the fly and is like this isn't u2..i just laughed.. you have no idea. haha
I'd wish I was alive and old enough to watch this live and understand how freaking huge this must have been! Biggest stage ever and Bono entering in that way!
People always say this period is good and this period isn't but everytime a artist make a successful album, the next time around they're competing for something else as well as trying to keep it interesting for themselves.
I got lost with PoP, but there was a few gems on it. I'm pleased with everything before and after it. Thank God Rock isn't afraid to grow like other forms of music.
If you got to see ZOO TV live - you went to the greatest gig ever.. this was U2 in their prime - Remember how awesome it was hearing Edge play Satellite of Love on his acoustic guitar and listening to Bono sing falsetto (when his voice could soar) I also remember them calling the White House every night.. ha ha lolz
Achtung Baby has it all. The perfect opener with this track, the highs of 'even better than the real thing' and 'mysterious ways' the heartache of 'who's gonna ride your wide horses' the lows of 'so cruel' the darkness of the last three tracks (especially 'acrobat') and the masterpieces that are 'one' and 'the fly'. Not a lot means more to me than this album
U2 AT THEIR PEAK !! BOTH ARTISTICALLY, MUSICALLY AND SONGWRITING..NOW THEY'RE JUST A BUNCH OF TREMENDOUSLY WEALTHY OLD GUYS TRYING TO BE COOL..REALLY SAD..
For me Achtung Baby is U2 at their absolute best!! The intersection of Great Ambition and even Greater Execution makes, for me, Achtung not only the best U2 record of all time but one of the top ten rock records of all time. This album truly deserves its place in the pantheon of the greatest of the greatest!!!
@JoeCalzaghe46and0 i love that one soooooo bad too. I'm going to that one now because this one isn't what i expected... I'll go to Acrobat then try and find a better version of this crap one
NO PUEDO DECIR SIN CULPA QUE UN DISCO ME GUSTA MAS QUE OTRO PORQUE ME ENCANTA TODO ABSLUTAMENTE TODO LO QUE HACE LA BANDA, PERO NO VOY A NEGAR QUE ACHTUNT BABY ES DE LOS QUE ME PUEDEN!!!
ME ENCANTANNNNNNNNNNNNNN! U2 ES MI RELIGION!! LOS AMO!
Bono's high kick dance was not good haha, but his amazing voice more than amde up for it. He's one of those singers that will be good even when he's a nostalgia act.
I dream that one day they will release every U2 pro shot film as some HD 3D movie we will see. Seriously, my imagination just flies with the possibilities of Zoo TV. They were ahead of their time. I dont think today, they'd do a Zoo TV with as much charm or that certain video meets satellites, Cyberpunk Rock attitude. It would be too CGI-ish empty. It was perfect for its time but timeless! Its insane this Zoo TV. Insane. I love it then amidst the trabants and catwalk and today.
I echo 'thisaccursedman', who hits the nail on the head. In the 90s, U2 had the balls to mock everyone and everything, including themselves. They also had the balls to revolutionise their sound, as Zoo Station demonstrates. I'd always take the holy trinity of Achtung Baby, Zooropa and Pop over their bloated, sanctimonious 80s work and their recent pop/rock compromises.
it actualy sounded better as the live version, and no bono and co i really don't think everything i know is wrong, seriously if i knew this was a great song and performance then you wouldn't want me to be wrong on that would you?
The best era of U2. To think that they were so earnest, politicised, gritty, serious, semi-religious, even, and then, without warning, they produced a self-consciously overblown, playful show of irony and ridiculousness that was still kind of dark. They can make all the middle of the road stadium rock they like - nothing will tarnish the brilliance of Achtung Baby to Pop.
@thisaccursedman Thanks for your insight. It was a fascinating time, indeed. I remember seeing them several times at Giants Stadium. The stage was worth the price of admission alone. It was an ironic chapter for U2, a marked distance from their anthems of the 1980s. I'm lucky to have witnessed their evolution from the beginning. Each record resonated with me. My only wish is that they become politically confrontational again, though not extreme. Bono seems too cozy with neo-liberal leaders.
@thisaccursedman probably the best comment I have read about the U2 of the 90s. It wasn't quite without warning after Bono's comment about 'dreaming it all up again' at the RDS showgrounds gig on new years eve 89, but still who saw Zoo TV coming! A special time. Cheers.
i think i have been very lucky because the three times u2 has come to mexico city i had the chance to see them.but the ZOO TV in 1992 was absolutely shocking, electrifying.even though the place is not as big as aztec stadium and sun forum, anyway i hope you enjoy the concert specially first timers
Whilst I understand people have different tastes, I admit I still can't get my head around U2 followers who "dropped out" for the duration of the 90s.
From 80s to present, the Edge has been recognised as central to what U2 are. So how can any U2 fan not see that this was the period when he was absolutely at his most potent - his distinctive walls of electric sound creating classics like Even Better, Until the End of the World, The Fly, Mysterious Ways, Gone, Staring at the Sun, Acrobat etc, etc
@WhoDoYouWant Good call!!! These are four of the most talented artists you'll find anywhere. This is now considered one of the "big bands", and for those who decided that U2 was not doing "U2 stuff" in the nineties, they missed watching this band's progress. U2 has only gotten better over the years.
I am brazilian and very fan of U2, i love this song, she is great and sensational... This music is radically exciting from start to finish ... I wanted to be dancing in the show too! The dance of Bono is sensational, very good even! the sound is very radically!!! U2 always on blood!!!
Your English is superbly effortfull! You REALLY want to get across what your heart wants to say and it shows in your interesting word choices. Bono's dancing IS mesmerizing, isn't it?!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'll have to admit...as much as I like these guys, this was my "least favorite" time period for them career-wise and Bono was definitely at his most cocky!
