THE death of the husband didnt make sense point of no return why the fuck didn t she hooked up the cable to the satelite and then used the fuel plus when she tried to catch him she used 50% of her fuel to try to catch him but just used lets say 4% to stop so if she was moving at 30km using 50% with 4% she slowed only 1,2 KM so she was still moving when she was deciding to rescue or not plus the cable didnt reach the husband but reached the stalite ? First, it has to be re-entry capable. It has to be able to land AND take off vertically.

You can´t use the "missile" approach here. You can´t put some guys in a capsule on top of a rocket, lauch them, then re-entry them.
you'd have to build a self-sustaining ship, that could be used as a base when landed....dun think there'd be much in the way of taking back off, and wouldn't make much since anyway since it takes like 8 months to get there. would have to be a semi-permanent colony. trouble is, getting the astronauts there without physical issues or one of the countless things that could go wrong with a self-sustaining system. once there, many renewable energy resources.

Well,i love this movie, the only thing i didn't like 100% was the design of the creature, but i understand what they were trying to do. 2000 was the year of Mars in Science Fiction Movies, for me this one is the best, the other two were "Red Planet" and "Ghosts of Mars" (this opened in 2001 ^_^) The vision in "Mission to mars" is very real: Equipment, the trip and the landscape of Mars as well. The zero gravity scenes where they dance and eat the candies were excellent.

You'd have to see the movie. The reason he takes off his helmet is because his cord broke of the spacecraft and his wife(another astronaut) went after him. He didn't want her to die trying to save him so he depressurised

The only feasible way of getting to mars is to use some sort of shuttle- vertical take off and landing isnt an option as a few guys have pointed out.
But even then, a shuttle needs a HUGE runway to land on... and im not sure mars has many of those.
So nope, i don't reckon we'll see a landing on Mars in this century, let alone by 2020 or whenever they were saying they'd do it.

I really am not that stubborn and patriotic as my last comment might have portrayed. But I do respect the country that I live in, and I do feel that I am lucky to have been brought up in this nation. So when people talk shit about my country over stupid issues irks me. Because the US has tried it's best to help the world in SOO many historic situations that we don't get credit for, and it seems like many people from other countries are just ignorant of that fact; but sure we aren't prefect.

in response to these questions from evoslip. The Aliens must have their reasons. Maybe they wanted to give the planet to a new breed of life..us. And maybe they found another planet for them to colonize. This movie is a great movie. I loved it. Its very well scripted and the story is awesome. the people who bashes this movies are the same tards who prefer shit like predator, or AVP or some over the top gore action. This isn't that type of movie. This movie is for real science lovers.

This wasn't the best movie I've ever seen, but if you know what I know than this movie holds a sort of truth to it. Maybe not with that happening on Mars but the whole concept of Earth being seeded. Scientifically this is a very plausable movie.

WHat the FUCK with this movie. What the fuck!!! It's horrible. I don't understand any of it. Nothing makes sense, it has NO plot, sucky characters, horrible plot holes, and so much more sucky-ness. Nothing is good but the special effects which is just "average" in my book. And at the end the guy goes "I'm taking th LOooOooOng way home" goes in a ufo, turns into a dolphin, elephant, monkey, kangaroo, cactus, and veneus fly trap. What the fuck???????????????????????????

exaclty!! Why didn't they just go to earth, or stop the asteroid (if they can fly lightyears away why can't they stop an asteroid)!! Oh the plot holes. Also I love the one scene where the "scientist" sees a model of DNA and goe "OMG it loosk human". Oh sure...from a MODEL of DNA, and looking at it for 3 seconds, he instantly tells it's human. Pshhh science cries...also wahts the deal with the guy taking his helmot off in space (that was stupid), and why doe shis head turn into a rock? UGH!!

You'd have to see the movie. The reason he takes off his helmet is because his cord broke of the spacecraft and his wife(another astronaut) went after him. He didn't want her to die trying to save him so he depressurised
