@3tangle3 St Patrick was a catholic and he preached to create a catholic faith in Ireland. He did although certain liberties like polygamy and other things so that the nobles would support him but his aim was still to create a catholic faifthful in Ireland. Also it was pretty hard in those days to get information from Rome in those days due to the distance and the fact it had to go past England.

@3tangle3 Firstly St PAtrick was I believ originally from Wales but was most certainly a Roman-celt so to describe the Catholic church as foreign is quite hilarious to become with seeing as St Patrick himself was a foreigner to Ireland. Secondly he like many others before and after him came from Western Christian countries who at that time had already came under the catholic church set up by Jesus and founded by St Peter and St Paul. It is written in the rule book, in the north at least, that Catholics may not join, and members may not marry Catholics. You live in a republic, and an Irish one at that, so how is it appropriate to sing these songs when you have Irish citizenship?

@3tangle3 St Patrick was a catholic and he preached to create a catholic faith in Ireland. He did although certain liberties like polygamy and other things so that the nobles would support him but his aim was still to create a catholic faifthful in Ireland. Also it was pretty hard in those days to get information from Rome in those days due to the distance and the fact it had to go past England.

@3tangle3 Firstly St PAtrick was I believ originally from Wales but was most certainly a Roman-celt so to describe the Catholic church as foreign is quite hilarious to become with seeing as St Patrick himself was a foreigner to Ireland. Secondly he like many others before and after him came from Western Christian countries who at that time had already came under the catholic church set up by Jesus and founded by St Peter and St Paul. Cont’d-On both sides there was persecution.Today, there is still difficulty for the 26 counties to accept protestant traditions.Can you imagine the Orange Order taking part in a St. Patrick’s Day parade.Can you imagine an Orange march on the 12th in Dublin.Can you imagine the Orange Order having a national holiday in the 26 counties just as the Catholics do on the 17th of March. The 26 counties have a long way to go yet in accepting its other citizens who are Irish but of the Protestant faith.

Why would the orange order be accepted in Ireland when (in the north at least), Catholics are banned from it. Sure, the Boyne was important for Irish history, but it was more important for english history, and yet orangemen dont march there. Do the orangemen in the south still sing god save the queen and worship pictures of her like they do up north? If so, can you not see why that would offend Irish people. If you love britain and the queen so much... live in england.

@MacCeapaigh1916 - Catholics are not banned from joining the Orange order - they are not accepted. Just as Protestants are not accepted in joining the Arch Confraternity or other Catholic organisations. If you are a master plumber would you be interested in joining a Guild of Master Carpenters to further your plumbing knowledge! Orangemen from the Republic are Irishmen also! As for God Save the Queen that is sung to glorify the Queen as the head of the Protestant Church.

It is written in the rule book, in the north at least, that Catholics may not join, and members may not marry Catholics. You can deny it all you want, if it's written in the rule book then that means they are BANNED. The queen is only the head of the church of england, so why would you sing god save the queen in Ireland? You live in a republic, and an Irish one at that, so how is it appropriate to sing these songs when you have Irish citizenship?

Furthermore, you claim you are an Irishman. I find it hard to believe, in fact almost insulting, that any Irishman, even an orangeman would sing God save the queen. There are lots of non-british protestants, but they somehow manage not to have to sing it. You know king william was a puritan? What would he think of your bright orange appearance, loud noises from drums and the obligatory drinking of alcohol, that always seems to go with the 12th marches?

@MacCeapaigh1916 Speaking as an Englishman, we don't want the Orange Order in England! There are some of them who march in some places in the North of England, though, unfortunately. But then, I am partly Irish, and my Irish ancestors were Catholics from Cork. I'll sing God Save the Queen AND Irish rebel songs.
