I know they just doing a high block, but whenever I saw the blocking foot soldiers I always thought as a kid that they were holding up badges or their credit cards. Like they were going to take the damage later.
They're checking to make sure their deodorant still smells ok. Unfortunately Foot Soldiers are robots, and completely oblivious to the fact that they'll never smell like the man your man could smell like. Sewer surfin' is now diamonds.

I also used to think that if you knocked over the welcome sign in our town the Power Rangers would come to your birthday.
