Can I ask what some of the assorted switches do? Someone told me that the switch from the cacodemon room and the two in the diamond shaped room with the pink demons work toghether to open a secret passage in the 'centre alcove' but I couldn't figure out what this was. Unless I wandered into it without knowing and it was part of the same room?

The switch in the room with the Cacodemons opens up one of the two doors for the secret room with the Pinky Demons. The 2nd switch is IN the room with the demons, and is the right switch. This will open up the second door so you can then enter the secret area. The switch to the left will open up the closed door you went through to enter and will being you back to the main starting room.

in the mac version of doom 2 there was no blood splattering on the walls... im jealous

That's because I'm using a source port (GZDoom) which has many added special effects / higher resolution textures and sprites. I'm not sure if it supports Mac, but I know it does for Linux and Windows.
