its called the free hand, but the one handed roll is not this.

yes its also called a gravity blast. but its done on the rim not levitated. Johnny Rabb teaches this way, and the drummer of The Berzerker uses this method as well

It is called a gravity blast, similar to blast beats, but rolling with snare hand instead of fast single beats. He is just showing the snare hand. In context you would be playing cymbals and bass at the same time.

This free hand technique is really cool. But there seems to be too much wrist movement involved eh ? I checked out a Johnny Rabb vid on youtube and he does it with so much more finese and applies it real good in the context of the rhythm he played in.

god darnit thats a gravity roll the only way to do a "one handed drumroll" is to use the "push pull" serch it gosh

You can use Moeller or fingers-only to do a one-handed roll, too. And, if you're as good as Buddy Rich, you can do it all with wrist flicker (which is how Chapin does his version of Moeller). Push-pull isn't a requirement. Whatever gives you speed -- it's all good.

Audio and video are not synchronized. But the explanation of the technique is great. I hate when drummers try to xplain these hyper speed techniques showing the entire drumset and playing at inhuman speeds. Like Malmsteen on guitar.
