sandstorm hits Riyadh city

This looks very messy. The worst I see here are blizzards and -30c. Aren't I lucky.

@Midnightryder7 well, it would if you're not careful enough.. maintenance should be done right after the sand-storm.

and if the wind is over a certain speed or if your car is in an open area it could mess up the paint job.

but mostly its the air-filters you should be worried about.

other than danger of the visibility dropping down to not more than 2 meters in best cases, its not that much of bad situation if handled correctly.. you don't expect to drive in such condition and not hit something

Im still remember this. Me and my group of Friends was eating lunch. It was very cloudy and dusty, orange environment. Thats the first time in Saudi Arabia. I will bring this experienced to my home Country.

I lived there and in Kuwait city for years. These same dust storms cover Kuwait city for 4 to 6 weeks at a time during the Monsoon season in India which is across the the Persian Gulf. The rain and winds are so strong, last for so long, that it stirs up these dust storms in the deserts. A lot of ppl there have enphysemal, asthma and die from it.

I highly doubt it was a tornado that caused this. sandstorms are sometimes cause by downbursts or thunderstorm outflow but the winds of a tornado spiral inwards.

you've got a point there.. but what would explain the three pillars i've seen by the edge of the city? i mean, there's a big valley where they were and since the pressure won't have any space to spread by the center, it might as well went up.... don't you agree?

They could have been landspouts, a kind of tornado. The sandstorm an landspouts (if that's what they were) were probably caused by the same storm. Hills and valleys usually offer little resistance.

hmmph... well I've got lucky and they used my video in a Documentary called "Moments of Impact" it was aired on the Discovery Channel on Thursday, 8/13/09 at 9pm Pacific Time. I'm guessing my copy of the show is in the mail but I'm too lazy to go and get it.. lol..

I'm sure we will find the whole explanation in the show ^^..

well yes.. there is a warning everytime theres a posibility of a formed sand storm. but its really rare to witness a sand storm this big... the city it hit is the capital and has more than 6m ppl in it.. so u can c how big it is. but its really rare to have something like this happening.
