  • I keep getting an error pop up when I try to scan. 'module' object has no attribute 'STARTF_USESHOWWINDOW', every time i try to scan anything it gives me this. Could it be because i didn't change the ROOT when i downloaded the program. please let me know.

    Thank u.

  • @weedreamer89: What distro are you running? When you say you downloaded it, do you mean you downloaded it from a website or did you use your package manager?

  • nice nice nice

  • nice nice nice *****

  • oh okley send it to my inbox then please

  • aw okey can you give me a download link for Etherape ?

  • @SasukeU854: Might have to Compile it yourself, they only seem to have binaries for Linux. But, I'll send you the link in a message (Can't put links in comments).

  • i just found it sorry im a dumass it was sitting there all along

  • @SasukeU854: No problem, I just sent you the link. Just ignore it.

  • @metalx1000 so can yyou find out the computer name by doing an scan on the victim ip adreses ?

  • @SasukeU854: I would think it would be able to, but I'm don't know how to do it. I thought nmap -sL would do it, but I just tried and it didn't work. I usually use Etherape for that. It will resolve the hostnames, but I believe it's because it's monitoring the traffic including DNS, where nmap is just scanning.

  • @metalx1000 cool Etherape is wiershak now ? i scanned for random ip adrses with angry ip scanner and it scanned and i read the resulets and i saw a serive and saying linux would that mean his useing the linux operating system ?

  • @SasukeU854: No, Etherape just gives you a quick visual on network traffic. Who is connecting to what and how much bandwidth they are using.

nmap has a OS detection feature, so if you have that turned on, it will tell you what OS the remote machine is running and percentage of how accurate it thinks it is.

  • dose zenmap only work on linux

  • @SasukeU854: Just Googled "zenmap" and the first site's title is "Zenmap - Official cross-platform Nmap Security Scanner GUI" So I would say, "no, it will work on other platforms.

Most Open-Source software is cross-platform. Most Languages are cross-platform and the only reason most Closed Source programs aren't cross-platform is because the software writes don't have the time to compile the software for other OS's, or they are just not very good programers.

  • @SasukeU854: With Open-Source you have an unlimited number of programs, so cross platform support is more likely. Another reason why Open-Source is superior to Close.

  • @metalx1000 so how come it wont let me use zenmap ??

  • @SasukeU854: What won't let you use Zenmap. I have no clue what your setup is or what errors you are getting. I'll be glad to help, but I need information to do so.

  • @metalx1000 na its not giveing me any errors its just when i go to the site to download zenmap nothing happens and i have a windows operating system i rilly wont to try that zenmap or do you open it from the comand prommped or cmd ?

  • @SasukeU854: I haven't used zenmap in Windows. But, you shouldn't have to start it from the cmd, should just be able to double click the icon. but, running it from the cmd may give you more output such as errors.

  • @metalx1000 thanks it wont let me even download it

  • @SasukeU854: It's in a package with nmap. I'll send you a message with the link. It will then add an icon to your desktop. I just tried it in VirtualBox, so I know it's working.

  • exactly how do you determine what your target is?

  • Each computer has it's own IP Address on a network.

You can find your IP on most Linux systems by typing 'ifconfig' at the command line. In Windows you can use the 'ipconfig' command.

  • Most private networks will have an IP range something like '192.168.1.*' or '192.168.0.*' depending on the brand of router. Each number in an IP address can be anywhere from 0 to 255. you can scan a range of IP's by using something like '192.168.1.100-200'. I would do a quick scan with that and then when you find a machine you want to scan you can do a more thorough scan on it.

Hope this makes sense. I star your message to remind me to do a video on it later.
