That was Quick Match. And you do not have much experience with the Soul Calibur series, do you? First time I played Kratos, I was doing all kinds of combos with him. In fact, it's way too easy to pull off his combos. He is definitely an unbalanced character. Still fun to use him though.

This game lacks any good modes, heck it lacks the fundemental Arcade mode. It's basically a glorified tutorial, it is NOT Soul Calibur on PSP everyone has wanted, it's how to play soul calibur on PSP.
