20th century boys is also my favourite. It is so amazing. i read it online and have just bought the first volume. it makes u want to keep on reading and reading, which i have not found in many other mangas at the moment (although i have only just startedt to widen my views).
My favorite manga series at the moment is Case Closed (aka Detective Conan), although I really like Area 88 (one of the first manga series published in the U.S., in comic book form by Eclipse).
Most of my anime collecting is on LaserDisc: 801 T.T.S. Airbats, AIKa Trial, Area 88, Classmates, Gigantor, Sakura Wars Ouka Kenran, Shojo Kakumei Utena, Speed Racer, VS Knight Lamune & 40 Fresh, etc. More on order. :)
@hUNTeRindJ - I got it from Amazon but I have also seen it in shops like Forbidden Planet. It cost me around £70 which is something like 110 Canadian Dollars.
I don't seem to know why, but I enjoy watching other peoples collections rather than collecting myself! >.< Welcome to the N.H.K is by far the best though.
Aw man. I loved the FLCL manga. There's another version of the manga written and drawn by another man named Yoji Enokido. I heard it's loads better than the version you have by Hajime Ueda. By the way, excellent manga collection! I've just started collecting about two months ago and now I have 28 books! I'm going to get more next week.
@Dragonking50 - Well the manga isn't bad, I guess my expectations were just too high. I didn't think too highly of the art though. Aren't the ones by Enokido the novels? I have heard they're pretty good as well so I may check them out. I am going on holiday soon and I am sure they would make good reading material on the plane.
28 books in two months is a damn lot more than I have been getting, aha. You should do a video on your collection. :)
@Toukah Well, I really would love to do a video on my collection but, unfortunately, I don't have anything that can record video. Guess where all that money went? Hahahahaha. One of my friends has a video recorder though, so I'm going to ask him if I can borrow it.
@TheAnimoProject - Haha, it took three years to get this much so I wouldn't worry. Collections grow with time. I really don't have that much money, I just like to spend what little change I have on a good manga every now and then.
Nice collection. Your Taniguchi section's looking a little slim, I know it can be hard to track stuff down in English but I'm pretty sure you can get both Times of Botchan and Distant Neighbourhood which are very very good, as well as My Father's Almanac which is amazing. He also did the art for some noir stories called Benkei in New York, which is really hard to track down but well worth checking out. If you see a copy grab it.
Others to check out: Old Boy and Lady Snowblood, both Dark Horse.
p.s. Urasawa's Pluto is brilliant. I know this video's a bit old, so if you started buying it you've probably recently finished volume 8 and gutted it's over, but if you haven't, make it the next series you start.
@GatoPoder - I still haven't finished Pluto yet but now that the rest of the volumes are out I'm gonna have me a Pluto marathon. I've loved it so far, can't wait to see how it develops. I'm sure the climax is quite something as well, knowing Urasawa.
@GatoPoder - Yeah, I do plan to get more manga by Jiro Taniguchi but they're awfully expensive so I'll just have to treat myself one day. I want to wait a while until I buy Botchan though; to let the volumes build up. I'll probably buy A Distant Neighbourhood next, even though I've already read it. It's probably my favourite from Taniguchi, so it'd be nice to own it!
Also, thanks for the recommendations! Gotta love a good vengence story. I'll look into them!
@zipowebhead Glad to hear! I hope you continue to enjoy it. :) It's probably the only manga I really couldn't put down. It's unbelievably suspenseful and mysterious, and it continues to get even better as it progresses.
you need Gantz... and more D.Gray-man, other than that really good collection. although I never got into Claymore, I read the first volume and all the characters looked the same so I stopped reading.
I'm planning to buy Gantz, but would rather wait 'til more volumes are released. I liked the first volume of D.Gray-Man but it didn't leave me wanting more, so I can't say I'll be purchasing any more volumes any time soon.
As for Claymore, the first couple of volumes are very average shounen, but the later volumes are completely mesmerizing. It still holds a firm place as my third favourite manga and for good reason. The latest chapters have been immense.
Yeah, I want to get around to Dragon Ball eventually. It's such a long series though so I probably won't get it any time soon. I want to finish a couple of other series first. Maybe I'll buy those boxsets Viz released when they drop a little in price.
Haha, your manga collection is a lot like mine (similar manga) but I have 360 manga in mine xD and OMG YAY FOR CLAYMORE FANS!!!!!!~~ (: I was happy to hear you say claymore was one of your favs , cause you know what? IT is awesome! (: hehe ^^
Yeah I plan to buy Gantz soon. I have read the first volume of DNAngel though and didn't like it. I'm not sure Shamen King is really my thing but I'll look into it. Thanks for the recommendations.
Yeah, Gantz is my favorite, Shaman king is in my top 5, i didnt really think i would like it either, but it turned out to be pretty good, and as for DNAngel, i liked it lol. but im not much of a romance guy.
wow, this collection is huge. I haven't even heard of most of those. I saw that you've made a review of Gon when I was looking through your profile. Have you considered making any more manga reviews? I'm sure that if you did it would introduce many more people to a lot of new manga. And especially if you say a little bit about their plots and such, it would inspire myself and others to go out and buy their stuff.
Yeah I'm definitely going to do other manga reviews. I've already had quite a few comments and messages saying how people have gotten into manga by watching my videos so I'd like to continue doing more. I plan to review more obscure and less-known manga instead of the mainstream stuff. I'd also like to do a few recommendation videos where I perhaps recommend some of my personal favourite manga from each genre or something. I'm still thinking about it but I want to get around to it eventually.
what sci-fi mangas do you recommend? i like inuyasha and i love wolf's rain. ive seen the first couple of episodes of blood+ and im considering buying it. i also like the bleach anime as well as fullmetal alchemist, though i havent seen much of it. anything you would recommend?
Eden: It's an Endless World! is a fantastic post-apocalyptic sci-fi series, though its quite unlike the other manga you listed. It's extremely mature and very intelligent - it won't be everyones cup of tea but I'd definitely recommend checking it out. Other great sci-fi's include Akira, Planetes and Pluto - all of which I'd recommend. I'd also highly urge you to check out 20th Century Boys - its a mystery manga with sci-fi elements later on, and its also my personal favourite. Hope that helps :)
I'd also recommend BLAME!, Gantz and Battle Angel Alita. BLAME! is a very unique sci-fi series and even though I've only read a little of the last two (Gantz and Battle Angel Alita) I was very impressed.
Nice collection! I think I might check out some of the manga you showed in your collection. And I agree about FLCL. Compared to the anime the manga lacks substance!
Well its pretty much the standard in most peoples collection, and its also what got a lot of people into manga. I guess its popular because its story and characters work pretty much universally where as a lot of other manga is so very Japanese. The story is forever captivating, the characters are deep and intriguing and the art is fantastic. I recommend it.
@melixD909 the anime isnt too bad. you can netflix most of the episodes, i think the first two volumes? im not sure. i do not recommend the live action movies though. keep away from those.
I only have 3 manga and it's pretty face and one Anime Lucky Star I picked up a random manga pretty face and I loved it and I hopefully go out and get some more I really enjoy it ur write to recomend it
You want it, you got it. Thanks for the idea, I'd like to show off a few other things in my room. I'm afraid I won't be able to get the video out until after christmas however, until I get a new camera. If you don't mind waiting though please look forward to it!
Yeah, art is a big factor for me. If a series has a brilliant story, but only adequate art I just can't get into it. Probably why I hated FLCL so much. The art in Nodame Cantabile is very simplistic as well, which is a shame because I loved the anime and would love to read the manga, but the art just doesn't do it for me. I have been meaning to read Berserk for a very long time, but for some reason it's really expensive. I'm sure it's worth it though so I'll get around to it eventually! Thanks!
Yea, I hear you about it being expensive. I bought all 30 volumes in the last two months. LOL. It was worth every penny though. The extra what, 20 or so percent, of price is well worth the art and story content. Yea, story and uniqueness probably mean the most to me as a reader. Thats why Beserk is so good is that its all story AND all art for quality for readers like you. I can't remember whther you had vagabond or not in your video. That one is also high in art quality.
Yep, I have Vagabond. I've only read up to volume 7 but I absolutely love it. I think I'll buy the rest of Vagabond and then move on to Berserk. Well, that's the rest of the years manga reading planned! Have you read Eden: It's an Endless World? That's another series high on art. The art isn't as sketchy as Vagabond or Berserk, but its extremely detailed. Personally I'd say it's the best written manga I've ever read as well. The story is very mature, logical and realistic.
Yea, I was in my local used book store recently and saw Eden in there. I think they were missing the first volume though and I never jump into the middle of manga. :(. It is on my endless to get to list though. I think instead I picked up the first two volumes of Vampire Knight (which my wife is in love with).
And Wow, "best written manga", eh? That vote of confidence will probably put it further up the list.
Indeed. Even though Eden takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting you can tell the writer has based a lot of it on his own experiences, so he sure knows what he's talking about and then some. The intelligence in that series never fails to 'wow' me. Plus it's true, down to earth, realistic storytelling that I'm sure pretty much everyone would be able to relate to.
Haha, I've heard so much about Vampire Knight. It seems to have taken the world by storm.
i have 1-16 of dragon ball(completed) 1-26 of dbz(completed) 1-31 of naruto(working on it) 1-21 of one piece(BEST MANGA/ANIME EVER. working on it) 1-2 of afro samurai(completed) Sandland(one-shot)
I don't really like getting Vizbig editions because they're well behind the normal volumes. The most recent Vizbig is only volume 4 or something isn't it? Which is like 12 volumes altogether, but there are around 27 seperate volumes out at the moment.
Trigun Maximum is the sequel to Trigun. It picks up right where Trigun left off. The sequel is called Trigun Maximum instead of just Trigun because it was serialized in a different magazine, I think. There was also a bit of a gap between the creation of the two of 'em. Trigun finished in 1997, but Maximum didn't start until a year later even though it carries on right from where Trigun left off. The anime was made by adapting Trigun alone, so most of whats in Maximum isn't in the anime.
Yeah, a lot of people don't really seem to know about Gintama. Whats up with that? Although I've never actually met anyone that dislikes it. It has a small but dedicated following. Haha. Glad to see someone else here reads it!
haha SWEET Toukah did not realise you had that many bleach manga or that many manga period! holy shit i feel so small in my collection stuff... :P cool video , hey when we going to see another AMV from ya?!?

you should get the vizbig edition of Vagabond. It will save a lot of money.

I don't really like getting Vizbig editions because they're well behind the normal volumes. The most recent Vizbig is only volume 4 or something isn't it? Which is like 12 volumes altogether, but there are around 27 seperate volumes out at the moment.

whats the difrence between trigun and trigun maximum
rougethestarking 2 years ago
Trigun Maximum is the sequel to Trigun. It picks up right where Trigun left off. The sequel is called Trigun Maximum instead of just Trigun because it was serialized in a different magazine, I think. There was also a bit of a gap between the creation of the two of 'em. Trigun finished in 1997, but Maximum didn't start until a year later even though it carries on right from where Trigun left off. The anime was made by adapting Trigun alone, so most of whats in Maximum isn't in the anime.

THANK YOU! Somebody else who has Gintama as well! I've been waiting to meet someone who's just as up to date with that Manga as I am!
Rest of the collection is cool BTW.
AlexStrife89 2 years ago
Yeah, a lot of people don't really seem to know about Gintama. Whats up with that? Although I've never actually met anyone that dislikes it. It has a small but dedicated following. Haha. Glad to see someone else here reads it!
