Neither really is better than the other because its mostly on what you want to watch and its a different style of things.
The story and how the animations are placed is also influenced by network policies,hence why the censoring and restrictions on the american part where the japanese networks are more acceptable.(dirty jokes,curses,violent ,sexual intentions etc).
Basically both are cartoons just that one is more specific for a country.
The thing is american cartoons have better motion while japanese cartoons/anime have better image.
The animes compensate the lack of motions with pan in and out and the eye and mouth tricks to not give away that you are watching a still picture,however its a better quality.
For the cartoons its more frames per second and the motions are more smoth and life like.
That's actually not true, American animation tends to be something even the Japanese can't rivel. The only difference is Americans don't make our animations into shows, at least we don't put the effort like the Japanese do, but when we actually have people put effort into movies, the Japanese marvel as we do their Animes at how great our animation is. Look at what Disney did in the past decade, most animes can't compare to that high level animation.

I, personally, prefer American and European cartoons to animes. Anime can be mature, but so can western cartoons. Also, in western cartoons, the animation is typically smoother, and the stylization is much more varied compared to animes and mangas, where every character looks practically the same.

The moment when everything was hitting shit cannon on shit wall was when they took toonami off the air. I mean really when it got taken off so many bullshit was coming in then came the fucking contridiction by putting real shows on CARTOON network. But I do understand what you're saying that alot of animes do get dumbed down on TV but the DVD/Blu-Ray releases are usually uncut. :| Idk I personally hate reading subtitles, it takes away from the actual show. And people translating it themselves on the internet probably aren't that accurate.

Anime humor wins simply because it's silly and relatable. America's main form of humor is the typical Jersey Shore shit or celebrity mocking. Modern cartoons lost what they had before for teens to relate to, Braceface was pretty good Reccess and Rugrats where the best. Anime invests in itself as a cultural art form. Cartoons are also heavily censored when it comes to kids because most republicans think that a life lesson or realism in cartoons will scar their children. Anime doesn't do that.
Cartoon stations are too concerned with marketing and cheap slapstick to actually care about plot. They overly censorize the themes certain cartoons can broadcast. Ever watch Constant Payne? It was pulled off right on episode one just because the character nearly crashed into a building with a blimp. Rather then edit that scene out, they cut the whole thing just to replace it with icrappy.
Most american cartoons of today are just vulger social commentary with redundant subject matter and poor taste in comedy.. *cough* family guy *cough* or are purposly marketed to kids and drawn HORRIBLY *cough* yin-yang-yo *cough* Danny phantom was the closest cartoon to somewhat shounen type styled fights but not anywhere near enough. Heres my opinion. I cant pick one over the other. I mean, even though we have a lot of great anime like Soul Eater, Ga-Rei Zero Shakugan no Shana and Gurren Lagann, we also have the great american shows like Teen Titans, Avatar, TDI and Invader ZIM. Both have also had there bad shows, like the Disgaea anime (KILL IT) and there are shows like Johnny Test which I find down right terrible.
There's no way to say one is better then the other. In the end, there all just shows from different places

There is at least one american cartoon that each person can love too, it's not just anime. I learned the best lessons in both american & japanese cartoons equally. Why do so many anime geeks only bring up the dark or R rated anime cartoons as having the best life lessons in all of animation? I learned better life lessons when watching lighter cartoons like "Babar the Movie" than I did watching dark ones like "Fullmetal Alchemist" for example. Agreed! Anime has deeper stories, with character development piling on top of another. The only GOOD cartoons were those made in the 80-90's. Look at X Men: TOS. Spiderman: TOS, Centurions, Scooby Doo, Adams Family, Transformers: TOS (Nah!, Even if Japan was involved... I think that it still is an American show), Disney Cartoon Movies, Fantastic Four and a lot more. And one thing... Humongous Mecha, Henshin Heroes and Magical Girls FTW!!!

USA cartoons seem disposable with a short lifespan, whereas Anime seems to stand the test of time.
I don't see many cartoons these days, but to my knowledge most of them aren't even hand drawn anymore, and are coloured using computers, so maybe we shouldn't even call them cartoons!
Why is it a competition? Anime is just a style of animation, not a genre! A lot of cartoons have there own meaning and styles. In the end, they're all just animation.
In all honesty, anime of today is pretty bland, e.g. Naruto, Bleach and a lot of shonen series copying off DBZ.
But there are horrible cartoons, the exceptions being: Avatar, Generator Rex, TMNT 2003, King of the Hill, Transformers: Prime, GI Renegades, Boondocks, Thundercats, Ed Edd n Eddy (the movie too), Robot Chicken, Gargoyles.
Anime is better because it keeps growing and exploring all the aspects of the media, not just from corny humor for our dumbed down youth but actual emotion, story telling, action and fear. All the intelligent and quality cartoons faded when the 90's ended (2001 to 2003 was probably when the last good cartoons were made widely)
Now we get bullshit like fairly odd parents running for almost 10 years reusing the same plots, shitty art design and very simplified sources of humor to entertain kids.

I don't think bringing up Avatar the Last Airbender is a obsolete point. It shows that America is learning from Japan on how to make a quality show. And I really hope to see more American shows also follow in Avatar's footsteps. Because it's an amazing show and if it technically qualified as an anime it would be my 3rd favorite series behind only Dragon Ball Z and Yu Yu Hakusho.

The only anime i watched was dragonball series then one of my friend recommended naruto to me and i loved and after catching up to it i watched one piece then bleach i went from having watched only dragonball to loving and wanting to watch more in just 3 months

It's status quo. Anime does not normally adhere to it. American television does. In American cartoons, nearly nothing changes throughout and entire season of episodes, there is no epic story being told, there is no overarching plot.
I don't think anime is better than American animation. True I watch a lot more anime than I do cartoons but like both the same. Cartoons that come into mind where everyone in the family would enjoy is the TMNT 2003 edition, the new Thundercats, Avengers Earth's M Heroes and Generator Rex.
I will say that most people would appropriate Anime more sense most anime targets teens of 14 years and up. While cartoons demograph is kids under 13.

You cannot really compare American Cartoons to Anime. They come from two different countries and are two different beasts. When I first saw anime (my first show was Sailor Moon back in 1995) I was amazed how different it was from the cartoons I knew. It actually had a continuing story. However, there are still classic American cartoons out there which I will fondly remember i.e. Rugrats.

I mean really when it got taken off so many bullshit was coming in then came the fucking contridiction by putting real shows on CARTOON network. But I do understand what you're saying that alot of animes do get dumbed down on TV but the DVD/Blu-Ray releases are usually uncut. :| Idk I personally hate reading subtitles, it takes away from the actual show. And people translating it themselves on the internet probably aren't that accurate.

Anime humor wins simply because it's silly and relatable. America's main form of humor is the typical Jersey Shore shit or celebrity mocking. Modern cartoons lost what they had before for teens to relate to, Braceface was pretty good Reccess and Rugrats where the best. Anime invests in itself as a cultural art form. Cartoons are also heavily censored when it comes to kids because most republicans think that a life lesson or realism in cartoons will scar their children. Anime doesn't do that.

Cartoon stations are too concerned with marketing and cheap slapstick to actually care about plot. They overly censorize the themes certain cartoons can broadcast. Ever watch Constant Payne? It was pulled off right on episode one just because the character nearly crashed into a building with a blimp. Rather then edit that scene out, they cut the whole thing just to replace it with icrappy.

Heres my opinion. I cant pick one over the other. I mean, even though we have a lot of great anime like Soul Eater, Ga-Rei Zero Shakugan no Shana and Gurren Lagann, we also have the great american shows like Teen Titans, Avatar, TDI and Invader ZIM. Both have also had there bad shows, like the Disgaea anime (KILL IT) and there are shows like Johnny Test which I find down right terrible.
There's no way to say one is better then the other. In the end, there all just shows from different places

There is at least one american cartoon that each person can love too, it's not just anime. I learned the best lessons in both american & japanese cartoons equally. Why do so many anime geeks only bring up the dark or R rated anime cartoons as having the best life lessons in all of animation? I learned better life lessons when watching lighter cartoons like "Babar the Movie" than I did watching dark ones like "Fullmetal Alchemist" for example. And if you are referring to filler....then yes, the story changes in that filler sense...but it always comes back....certain shows however do not....like Soul Eater...hate that show now, anyway! Agreed! Anime has deeper stories, with character development piling on top of another. The only GOOD cartoons were those made in the 80-90's. Look at X Men: TOS. Spiderman: TOS, Centurions, Scooby Doo, Adams Family, Transformers: TOS (Nah!, Even if Japan was involved... I think that it still is an American show), Disney Cartoon Movies, Fantastic Four and a lot more. And one thing... Humongous Mecha, Henshin Heroes and Magical Girls FTW!!!

American TV, in my opinion, sucks. Maybe it's because I'm not American, but I just find it an insult to my intelligence. Granted, I really did enjoy some of the 90s Marvel Cartoons, X-Men and Spider-Man.
USA cartoons seem disposable with a short lifespan, whereas Anime seems to stand the test of time.
I don't see many cartoons these days, but to my knowledge most of them aren't even hand drawn anymore, and are coloured using computers, so maybe we shouldn't even call them cartoons!

In all honesty, anime of today is pretty bland, e.g. Naruto, Bleach and a lot of shonen series copying off DBZ.
But there are horrible cartoons, the exceptions being: Avatar, Generator Rex, TMNT 2003, King of the Hill, Transformers: Prime, GI Renegades, Boondocks, Thundercats, Ed Edd n Eddy (the movie too), Robot Chicken, Gargoyles.

Anime is better because it keeps growing and exploring all the aspects of the media, not just from corny humor for our dumbed down youth but actual emotion, story telling, action and fear. All the intelligent and quality cartoons faded when the 90's ended (2001 to 2003 was probably when the last good cartoons were made widely)
Now we get bullshit like fairly odd parents running for almost 10 years reusing the same plots, shitty art design and very simplified sources of humor to entertain kids.

I don't think bringing up Avatar the Last Airbender is a obsolete point. It shows that America is learning from Japan on how to make a quality show. And I really hope to see more American shows also follow in Avatar's footsteps. Because it's an amazing show and if it technically qualified as an anime it would be my 3rd favorite series behind only Dragon Ball Z and Yu Yu Hakusho.

American Cartoons are mostly built to get a laugh out of people and they do that a hell of a lot better than anime. There are funny Anime but american cartoons have WAY comedy.
As for drama and story that clearly Anime because American Cartoons are aimed at kids while Anime can hit every genre equally as hard. American Cartoons just don't hit as deeply as Anime do so let American Cartoons rule comedy.

Neither is better than the other, there's too many other factors involved to say something like that. Futurama, the Boondocks, King of the Hill, and South Park are way better written and more relatable than 95% of anime. But on the other hand, with anime, they animators take the process and the visuals themselves way more seriously. If you can't just say "this is my preference" without going all overboard and dissing a whole culture's art form, you're point is out the window.

As usual, another fanboy has fucked up. Anime and Western cartoons both suck ass with very few exceptions, and comparing Cowboy Bebop to Chowder is fucking dumb... one of those cartoons was aimed at adults and one was aimed at kids... the fuck? The differences between anime and western are purely cultural. A lot of American cartoons are aimed at children, that's our vice, but Japanese comics/cartoons are the same recycled bullshit in a different packages ex: DBZ, Naruto, One Piece, Yuyu, etc...

It's status quo. Anime does not normally adhere to it. American television does. In American cartoons, nearly nothing changes throughout and entire season of episodes, there is no epic story being told, there is no overarching plot.

I don't think anime is better than American animation. True I watch a lot more anime than I do cartoons but like both the same. Cartoons that come into mind where everyone in the family would enjoy is the TMNT 2003 edition, the new Thundercats, Avengers Earth's M Heroes and Generator Rex.
I will say that most people would appropriate Anime more sense most anime targets teens of 14 years and up. While cartoons demograph is kids under 13.

American Cartoons is FU*KING Garbage, nowadays.
(Chowder, Flapjack, Adventure Time, Regular Show, The Amazing World of Gumball, Mad (TV series), Almost Naked Animals, The Boondocks, Robot Chicken, The Cleveland Show, Family Guy, American Dad!, Spongebob, FU*K 4Kids Entertainment) All are GARBAGE!!

You cannot really compare American Cartoons to Anime. They come from two different countries and are two different beasts. When I first saw anime (my first show was Sailor Moon back in 1995) I was amazed how different it was from the cartoons I knew. It actually had a continuing story. However, there are still classic American cartoons out there which I will fondly remember i.e. Rugrats.

well i think anime is better, but i think there is alot of good cartoons such as avatar teen titans and.....um? well thats it.
now my list of good anime cartoons, baccano,naruto,hunter X hunter, one piece, death note, FMA, durarara, monster, code geass, DBZ, hellsing OVA, sonic, digimon, yu yu hakusho, welcome to the NHK, wolfs rain, cowboy bebop, trigun, Darker then black, Soul eater, elfin lead, mushishi, Paranoia Agent, gankutsuou
and thats all i can think of right now :D

Teen titans WAS trying to copy anime too hard with the exaggerated anime styled emotions and the raindrop thing or the (o.O) faces they make. Im not a fanboy of anything, I just know.. Why else do they have a japanese theme song? BECAUSE they try to hard to make it like an anime. Deal with the truth or cry in a corner. Avatar and Boondocks managed to be brilliant without trying to be what it isnt. Teen titans just sucked.

i dont think one is outright better then the other, im a fan of anime. but people have to understand, they are made in 2 different countries and such and have very different fan bases. i mean yes anime has story and such and some cartoons dont, but there may be a reason why. cartoons are made to target certain groups, they are made really just for a laugh or to pass time. they dont require a heavy story.

I wouldn't consider people who love anime as a Weaboo... The ones I consider Weaboo is the ones who think or wish they were japanese to the point of being so pig-headed they hate their own country.
I watch Anime all day every day Ive watched about 100 Series in my lifetime, and loved most of them, yet I have no intrest in ever moving from my country... sure I understand and respect Japan but I love and respect my own country too even if it has shit governemt (I'm australan, but can apply to US)

Most of the time, I'd probably prefer Anime over American television. And I do agree that American cartoons were at its best in the 90s...though some of the recent shows are not that bad, at least in my opinion...
