  • why they wait til now to ban salvia? Its been legal forever.

  • lol its just gunna make more kids go to jail and want to try it more, right now its supa expensive too and u need an ID to buy it :/

  • The high can last for up to an hour? my ass! where the hell do they come up with information. When it comes to drugs its as if news agency's can pull any statistic out of their ass so long as they sound "confident" about it. This is bullshit the way media has a free for all with drug information.

  • Loss of controll, yeah but the fuckwits dont say nobodys fucked out from it and it only lasts like 10 minutes

  • its like a tv comercial-wanna try it now .

  • The high can last for an hour? Please. Salvia is trippy as hell, and I'll never do it again. But it doesn't last an hour. You'll feel it for like 5 or 10 min, but after that you just feel kinda "wierded out" but not tripping out.

Don't let kids do it... Put an age limit on it for adults!

  • I love the ending...

treat depression and cure addiction to cocaine..

    i was expecting negatives.

  • Great idea to put an age limit on it instead of banning it entirely. Let adults use it, but keep it out of the hands of the stupid emo kids.

  • seriously, you can't even go into the smoke shop here unless you're 18, but i admit that i have gone and not have anyone ask for my ID. I look like a 14 year old too.

  • Forget salvia, LEGALIZE CANNABIS!

  • an hour is fucking fail... it last until 20 mins...

  • And I also want to say this (damn character limits).

We want to END this War on Drugs, not escalate it! And if you think policing marijuana grows was inefficient, consider this: the salvia plant gives off no distinctive, heavy odor like a pot plant does. It doesn't require special lighting to grow, it'll grow as easily as any houseplant. It also LOOKS like any houseplant, its appearance is much less distinctive than marijuana.

  • Yeah, sorry minors. I still remember how much it sucked being underage, and I feel for you. But, if I it comes down to choosing between an outright ban, or you young'uns having to wait until you're 18 or 21 to buy it: you're jolly-well fucked.

But all is not lost: there's usually at least that one guy who graduated like four or five years ago and still hangs out with the high-schoolers. You know, the guy who buys all your beer; chances are he'll buy salvia, too.

  • salvia is really fun to use, but i agree that people under 18 shouldn't be able to do it. even though there are no side effects or anything bad about salvia, it's just something that shouldn't be available to kids. hell, i thought you had to be 18 to buy it anyways lol.

  • @soulforged789

    IMO..

Kid's shouldn't have it UNLESS parent's allow it..

Also, I would almost love for it to become illegal..

Right now I am to lazy to order it from the internet..

The month they outlaw it, is the month I will be able to get it off of the street :P :P

  • Absolutely ban it for minors, It does not last an hour but it does impair you beyond your control and that just means that the kids dig it. I could care less about that or alcohol but the danger is real, Ban it. The flip side is if they only limit one by age they will loose there argument for cannabis. They will probably go the prohibitionist rout. land of the free...

  • Salvia does not last an hour that is bullshit. Get your facts straight before you do a news report.

but salvia should not be banned and should just have an age limit and so should weed.

they both have so many medical purposes.

  • i'm sorry did i just not see them report any harmful side effects?? why the fuck is it getting restricted or banned.

  • This "news report" was presented as the news equivalent of a political smear initially. The latter woman's view presented about the most unbiased logical perspective in the story.

It would've been nice to see some clarifications compared to even legal psychoactives, such as the incredible unlikelihood that someone would be able to drive while on salvia, much like ethanol, or could overdose, much like even the most rudimentary OTC drugs possess as far as an LD50.

  • Imagine if all drugs were legal and all were controlled .... Imagine all the people, living happily ....

    .

  • Magic Mint? Lmfao.

OH SHIT, we're losing the front on marajuana.... Let's find something else to demonize!

  • hahaha fuck yeah.

  • What a bunch of propaganda and hype. The high lasts for an hour? What is the harm from Salvia?

  • God damnit these reporters are so damn ignorant. Except for the fact that it is smoked, it is nothing like pot at all. You take one hoot and hold it in until the effects become apparent. You can also chew about 10-15 fresh leaves and it is absorbed through your mouth. Its more of an entheogen/psychedelic than something used to get "High". The mazetec indigis have been using it for generations

  • here the only shops that sell it don't let any one under 18 in lol lucky for me i looked like i was 21 at 16 lol full grown beard haha ive never been ID'd lol

  • jeezus... it's NOTHING like pot.

  • On a side note, This is EXCELLENT work, DPA!

You guys should make a point of doing this in other states too, which haven't passed laws on these sorts of things yet!

If you preemptively work to pass laws on these types of things, setting age restrictions on their sale, instead of a prohibition, Then maybe that's how we should stop prohibition, a policy which makes the problems worse!

If we pass SMART laws first, before things become a problem worth prohibition, our policies will improve!

  • In my experience Salvia can be harmful because it isn't fully understood and it's used in hazardous environments by unwitting consumers.

As for abuse potential, I'd say its very low since its effects aren't exactly pleasurable and definitely not reinforcing.

Outlawing drugs doesn't curb substance abuse, we need the treat the underlying cause of abuse, namely ignorance and weakmindedness.

  • so is it harmful? is it addictive? or are we just going to outlaw everything which doesnt support getting addicted to your job and spending money?

  • "and addiction to cocaine".... I guess they couldn't quite make it through an entire report without making retards of themselves.

    Great work DPA!
