What's wrong with f/36? I don't see anything in his imagery shot at high f numbers that would prevent using them. In fact, he even mentions in his book "Understanding Exposure" that the big dust up over diffraction is way over blown. No one has turned down one of his photos over a high f number.
I noticed Bryan loves stopping his lens down all the way. Up until now all of the episodes were mostly of landscapes and scenery so it makes SOME sense, but regarding this one - why use F/36?
There's practically no depth of field to be captured there... F/5.6 would have been just fine and a lot sharper. Not to mention the diffraction that F/36 would cause.
@shlomki Since he is using a macro lens, the depth of field is greatly exaggerated. He is perfectly fine shooting at f 8 or even 5.6 on a flat surface, however, If he were to shoot something with 3d perspective, at f/32, almost everything would be in focus, but there would still be signs of out-of-focus. Simply saying, the macro lens drastically increases DOF
Unless you live in the UK where health and safety is present and you aren't even aloud to unbolt parts from cars let alone walk around the scrap yard lol

He shot at a high f stop to allow a slower shutter for more color to enter the shot. Purdy simple.
