@jpolimus The chassis is the same, the biggest difference is the front end which can be easily swapped for a JDM one, and same thing goes for the taillights and trunk lid. Unless you're talking about coupes.
hi any 1 knows y the FD2R is too bouncy?. I saw in one FD2R one make race which also shows the suspension bounce alot. Is it meant to bounce that much?.
yoo nuttsack... if you would have carefully read my comment you would have noticed that im sticking up for imports. i like american v8's but im an import guy. turbo 4cyl over a v8 anyday of the motherfucking week, month and year.
the amount of money put into these, next year ill be going to visit the spoon type one shop! cant wait! fd2's looks never grew on me until 1 passed me in london lol...he made my ek9 look normal compared to his =_=
In a world of Naturally Aspirated engines, the K20A has its place amongst the worlds top 5 engine supremacy. It is in fact lighter than its predecessor, the B18C, yet produces more power and torque.
K20A, a brand new intelligent and sophisticated engine design has finally arrived through the years of extensive research and development. A new window of tuning has opened for street tuners around the world with this new Honda engine. Enjoy it while you can and long live the power of dreams.
Because Honda engineers did not create a hatchback platform for the FD2 Civic Type R. The 3 door hatchback idea was stolen by Honda U.K., which they made it hopeless according to Jeremy Clarkson.
lol. i ask those questions, too. But like everybody says, the 4 door is stiffer, resulting in better handling. i've seen 2dr and 4dr race. 2dr barely creeps away on high end, which isn't that much of a help anyways.. i guess Japanese focus on the best balance, and they don't care much about who's faster on the straights.. solve it for ya?
The DC5 in this vid is one of Spoon's Super Taikyu cars, therefore it has had considerable development over the life of the model. The FD2 in this video is one of the first that Spoon got their hands on so hasn't had the development, they probably used suspension settings from the DC5 but the stiffer chassis led to the bouncing seen here. The same thing happened in the first FD2 that J's Racing modified. It doesn't mean they made a mess of things, it means they'd not experimented fully yet.
I didn't say "set-up", I said "settings" big difference:
Spring rates
Bound/rebound settings
Roll bar strength
Camber
etc etc
That's what I meant. They may have thought the settings they'd calculated for the DC5 would be a good base to work from for the FD2. I could be very wrong, it's just what I think they may have done; and we all know that no matter how similar two cars are (the chassis development for the FD2 came on from the DC5) small changes in settings can make a huge difference.
The EP3 handles better than the FN2, watch Top Gear prove it. The FN2 has a solid rear axle giving it a major disadvantage, it even has floating calipers instead of fixed Brembos. The FD2 is far better than both and my favorite part is the new final drive. The FN2 is the least of all Type-Rs, mechanically.
Yes, both the engines are the same, but I believe the suspension is where the problem lies. The suspension is probably tuned to similar characters, and given that the Civic is heavier than the DC5, it is probably affecting how well the tires can stay on the ground around corners. Notice how the Civic was bouncing out of the corners? Love the vid. What track is that?
The FD2 Civic is 50% more rigid in the body than the Integra Type R, The suspension in the Civic overly stiff, could of done faster lap times, the three pedal is called heel-toe technique to keep revs up while entering corners at high speed
It's the same engine. The K20a. I own a DC5R and I'll admit that the FD2 chassis owns it. How can the Integra possibly out handle a 50% stiffer chassis???
well the two in this video. The DC5 and FD2 share the same motor but the one in the FD2 is obviously more improved and it should be since its the latest model...

Can anyone tell me why the civic bounces in the corners? Is it overdamped, springs too stiff, etc?
e2yeung 4 years ago
springs are too stiff... some what.
johnnysonn 4 years ago 2
it's meant for the track. or rather a track-ready race car, dumbass
repulse 3 years ago
I thought that if your springs are too "soft" then they bounce. That's how you get your ride comfort because the softness absorbs the bumps.
beekyosuke 3 years ago
too stiff the car bounces. too soft the car rides like a wave...i guess is the way to describe that
landyacht06 3 years ago
and maybe the civic is too light
julianleeho 3 years ago
@johnnysonn I think the dampening is the issue here...
