Well, the don't ask don't tell policy seems to be a double edge sword. I'm not really sure if it's the best idea right now. First of all, "civil rights" have nothing to do with this issue and that's what most of the idiots don't understand. When you enlist you are no longer a private citizen you are a G.I. That's "Government Issue". You signed your body and life over to the military for a specific amount of time. You are the property of the government. Civil rights do not apply to you. Neither does your right to be fabulous.

If the military leaders felt it would somehow be a distraction, that is their decision to make. If you get a sunburn while in the military, whether you were off duty or not, you can be fined for "destruction of government property" under article 15. You are seen as government property. Well, the don't ask don't tell policy seems to be a double edge sword. I'm not really sure if it's the best idea right now. Homosexuals are still under heavy persecution, so it tends to make me a tad nervous for them because it could cause huge problems that we don't really need right now. I voted for McCain, but only because I didn't want Obama or Hillary. I don't support him though. I doubt I will even vote next year.

First of all, "civil rights" have nothing to do with this issue and that's what most of the idiots don't understand. When you enlist you are no longer a private citizen you are a G.I. That's "Government Issue". You signed your body and life over to the military for a specific amount of time. You are the property of the government. Civil rights do not apply to you. Neither does your right to be fabulous.

If the military leaders felt it would somehow be a distraction, that is their decision to make. Honestly, my biggest problem with this whole DADT repeal is that it is such an insignificant issue when compared to the problems this country faces. The leaders know that and are more than happy to distract us from what we need to be focused on as a nation.

How could it be if you are not a civilian? If that was the case then there are plenty more civil rights issues in the military to deal with and I don't hear anybody bitching about them. Gays are like most everyone else; self serving. They think the majority should specially accommodate them.

If you get a sunburn while in the military, whether you were off duty or not, you can be fined for "destruction of government property" under article 15. You are seen as government property. So, I don't have the right to get a sun burn, but bruce can go around being fabulous. It isn't civil rights unless you are dealing with civilians!!!

And as far as your historical examples. I can't speak too much of Alexander's army (although I'm sure alexander had no problem with them, as he was a homosexual himself). I do know however, that homosexuality was not looked kindly upon during the prosperous times of the republic. it was looked down upon as a degenerate greek behavior. It wasn't until the end of the republic on through the empire that homosexuality became common place, while society ate itself from the inside out, as we are.

I hear ya bro, But joining the military is not a Civil Right. It's actually more of privelage issued to only those that qualify. If you are missing a leg, No military for you. If you are more than 6 feet tall , NO Submarine duty for you. If you have a congenital heart condition , No Military service for you. I think the main reason the military doesnt want gays is because in the mil. your not supposed to be an individual , they strip you of that. Gays are too individual and don't fit the mold
