Did you try Gopro bus pin 12 to ground - it will act like a remote without all the mechanic stuff. Perhaps you needed something else?
Just got the Hero2 and am trying to get it going as a car DVR, would be great for the mean streets of Joburg to capture those carjacking!

Great idea mate, take a look at the Drift Innovation HD 170, it's got everything a GOPRO has and alot more.
