i have a no-steam version, and when i created a shortcut and ended it with -console outside the qoutation marks, i opened up left 4 dead and tried to start a game but this came up

"Connection blocked

Please remove Add-ons before trying to connect to a VAC secured server"

Hvae any ideas to fix this mate? ;O

This will only happen if you have any addons that include .exe or .dll files. Remove any addons with these files and launch the game again. If you don't have any addons installed when this message comes, try reinstalling it.

Well, you were not supposed to create a new folder, not at all. Move your stuff back where they were, you should know where you moved them from. Don't ask me, I don't know either.

Create a shortcut by dragging the shortcut to the desktop (if you use Windows 7, else right click on the program), and follow my tutorial as usual.

It works without steam, it's just more complicated. Right click on your Left 4 Dead shortcut, select properties, set the path field to "C:\Program Files\blablabla\left4dead.exe" -console. If you typed something wrong, it will crash on start up, so you'll know that. Start the game and follow up with the tutorial at 0:55.

Steam doesn't cost anything, only the games on steam cost (with a very few exceptions).

Yes yes I do, it most likely happened because you either replaced the whole field with -console or didn't put quotation-marks ( " ) in the destination. It should look like this:

"C:\Program Files\blablabla\left4dead.exe" -console

Start the game and type in the console bind F12 toggleconsole, start a singleplayer game and press F12. Bam, the console, ready to use.

You get this error when you try to set sv_cheats to 1 in a server not started by typing "map mapname". In the console, type map c5m2_park (for instance) and then type sv_cheats 1, then it's should be working.

Do you use Steam, yes? Did you set your game's launch option to -console? Did you in the console type in bind \ toggleconsole and ensured that the \ was not a /? Did you go to options, keyboard and mouse, enabled allow developer console and clicked done? Did you press the button below ESC?

If not, let me know what you did to try bringing the console up.

If so, try binding to another key like F12 (bind F12 toggleconsole).

The most likely cause is that you must have typed in something wrong.

I have no idea why the console wouldn't appear if your computer and laptop installed the game the same way as each other, uses the same keyboard settings or you flawlessly followed the tutorial here.

If you cannot bring the console up with a key, try binding with another key (like F12, bind F12 toggleconsole) and see if that works.

You missed a step in the tutorial. 0:16 to 0:30. If you successfully follow this part, the console should appear when you start the game, thus allowing you to type in the binding command.

You cannot bypass it, there are however some commands that doesn't need sv_cheats. One of them is kick [name], you can kick special infected from the game with this command (ex. kick boomer).

Well, the tutorial is aimed for people with QWERTY keyboards and got Left 4 Dead via Steam. If you are one of them, you should replay the tutorial to see if you did something wrong. If binding the keys is the problem, bind it to another, like F12 (bind F12 toggleconsole).

I have 2 types of M4 modell addons I have installed and the first one made the weapon become invisible and I belive it still is there. Just wondered if there was something I could write on console to activate and deactivate weapon skinns. Can it be fixed like that?

Nope, the console cannot do any of that. If your weapon becomes invisible it's most likely a bad model (the game cannot render it), try to fix it if you can or find another model that wouldn't screw up the model. If its a skin (texture of the model), then I don't know what is going on.

Your binds are saved when you safely quit the game, so you have to bind once (game crashes, instantly turning computer off and blue screen of death will not save your binds)
