I was a student at UT in Austin back in '94 and was lucky enough to experience this.

NOTHING I've experienced in the last 14 years comes anywhere near the scale and production quality of the '94 Manor.

Trust me, skippin' class and campin'-out for a measly 2-weeks in line was WELL WORTH IT!! Mr. Garriott even bought pizza for EVERY single person in line one day. (really classy gesture IMO)

Richard Garriot is a god. I grew up playing the Ultima games. And Ultima Online shaped the mold for MMORPGs, and IMO is the only one worth playing. Not WoW, not Everquest, but UO. Creative genius sums up Garriot. Wouldnt mind checking this out, but its a long drive to Austin from Cincinnati

They were not a high volume haunt. And I would guess they do what other haunts do...kick you out and press charges if you got to out of control :)

Yes, it is actually disconnected from the rest of the house as well. it has its own structure running down the inside of the entry way. He said there was to much movement from walking or air conditioning kicking on. :D *sigh* I want to be rich :P

Yes, people waited in line (camped out on the side of the road, sleeping in tents, cars, whatever they could find) for a good two weeks prior to the opening of Britannia Manor.

I had the good fortune to work on the Manor as well as act in it in 1992 and 1994. It took months to prepare, from the scripting (yes, there was a storyline involved, and it was a truly interactive spookhouse) all the way down to the building of the sets and the costuming and prosthetics.

It was a blast to work on.

Also a few things..."World's Most Famous" is a title...not a fact. Also 'Worlds Most Famous Haunted House' doesn't mean EVERYONE knows about it either. It would mean that out of the haunted houses people could name it would have the highest percentage named by the sample group...this could be 10% ...still if it holds the highest percentage...it would be the most famous. And probably, Disney's haunted mansion is number one actually...get over it...it's a title...

Yep, the Haunted Mansion is the best, it's the original! If it wasn't for Disney the concept for high tech walk throughs wouldn't exist. Haven't met one haunted attraction designer that didn't have some kind of influence from Disney's HM.

And yes, there used to be huge long lines of people, who camped out for weeks just to get into the House, which was free.

On the contrary, the house I grew up in was haunted. Just because YOU can't see it, you think it's not there. It doesn't work that way. Objects just don't get thrown across the room by themselves, and voices from people who aren't there just don't circle around your head, say your name and laugh at you, unless they're ghosts. I have been touched by ghosts, I have seen ghosts, I know ghosts are real. It's truly some creepy stuff, especially when they are mean.
