  • Wonderful to see it without brazilian subtitles! Thatnk you LaMisere!

  • The Wonderful Hattie McDaniel such a great character and sorely under used in the vast majority of the films she appeared in.

  • @Dazman1313 she was a wonderful lady as well I would have liked to have met her

  • I've no idea how good a quality it is, but there is someone based in the UK who has this film for sale on a DIY DVD, hence it's not official, but I have purchased a fair amount of these from sellers on Ebay and have been largely very happy with my purchases.

  • Thanks for sharing this rare Show Boat 1936.

Indeed it looks unavailable on DVD.

Only the MGM version of 1951 with Ava Gardner, a little more commercial.

  • wow image all these people dont live anymore....

  • james whale directed? didn't he do Bride of Frankenstein? No wonder I like this version better than the ossified MGM version in 1951.

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU ! <3

i wish i could find this in stores!!!!! TCM should really release it!

  • Thank you for all this information! I watched the 1951 version of Show Boat on TCM last night and it was wonderful, the music, the actors, the old paddle wheel boat, the storyline. Sad story but a happy ending. Thank you for posting. OneKewpie

  • Charles Winninger didn't create the role of Capt. Andy. Edna Ferber, Oscar Hammerstein and Jerome Kern did. he originated it. He was also Fred's Vaudeville pal on I love Lucy. Eddie Rochester Anderson has the 1st line in this movie. There was also a brief scene in this taken from the '29 movie.

  • @0203Patrickb I didn't realise that was Eddie Anderson! Amazing!

  • @madamerotten YEs it is. Happy Thanksgiving to you and all.

  • Why are some of the videos showing up in a much paler tone, while others show up just as always? (I don't mean when you watch them, I mean when you see the stills next to the name of each video?

  • The 40's remake isn't bad but this version is FAR superior. For one thing, this version tells the entire story while the 40's version ends a bit abruptly.

  • @33Keith33 There wasn't a'40's remake. The remake was released in 1951.

  • @al1936ful You're right. My mistake.

  • so beautiful!!!

  • Is the Captain the same man who played the father in State Fair?

  • @Anchovie15 Yes. He also created the role on Broadway.

  • @Anchovie15

    Yes, that's Charles Winninger.

  • Why does Queenie laugh like a nutcase?

  • So beautiful!
