  • Nice version. You're right, I could do with an analog synth.

  • @spiderpyx Thanks for your appreciation

  • @spiderpyx WHOOOPS sorry, I have answered with the wrong Youtube account. It was me, mima14031985 which answered to you with the account "luigiratticomo"

  • Thanks for your comment.

The curious thing it's that I obtained this customized version "casually" while learning how to play like the original. Glad you like it.

  • wow this was the most "customized" version over here. You watch the video always wondering "what's the next trick he going to do". Cool playing Good job!

  • Is that an Oberheim?

  • @JustinC721 Well, it really would be my dream, but unfortunately no, it's not an Oberheim. The lower one (on which I play Jump) it's a Roland Juno 106, the upper one (the one on which I play 1984) it's a Roland JP-8000. The sound on both songs comes from the JP-8000, I use the Juno 106 for Jump (midi-controlling the JP-8000) as on the JP I have not enough octaves to play the bassline right

  • @mima14031985

You seem to know alot of synthesizers, could you help me get a closer sound on my subdivisions cover?

  • I almost like your version better than the original

  • Could you explain briefly the patch you are using on the 106 ?

I have several juno 106 and I can't get such a good analog trumpet sound as yours, I must be missing something.

  • The sound in this video doesn't come from the Juno 106 but from the JP-8000 (because of the failed voice chips on the Juno). To obtain a similar sound using the single oscillator of the Juno use both the sawtooth and the PWM waves, use the LFO to modulate the pulse width at a slow rate and apply to the overall sound the Chorus #1. Then configure the filter to have a little bit of resonance and its envelope to have a fast (but not immediate) attack, slow decay and a little bit of release.

  • *****^^ Great!

  • very nice

  • AWESOME!!!! GREAT JOB!!!!!

  • Nice work! Will try to learn this song this week. If this Van Halen songbook arives soon enough.

What JP8000 (own one myself :) ) patches do you use for this piece? Do you have a mid or sounddiver file?

  • Hi,

Thanks for your appreciation. I used a mine patch, but is really easy to get a sound like this. 2 sawtooth oscillators, detune them a little, fast attack and slow decay on the filter, a little touch of resonance to brighten the sound. Actually this is the classic "sawtooth brass" sound found in nearly every keyboard out there.

  • Correction, the sound is called "synth brass" and not "sawtooth brass"

  • complimenti per la tua esecuzione pulita e completa forse un pò troppo veloce ma è il minimo...come va con gli oscillatori del juno 106? ;)

  • 5/5

  • Thanks :D

  • THAT was well done. The MM6 sounds like this as well... All the more reason Ishould buy one... ;)

  • Thanks :D

Yeah the MM6 it's a little pretty keyboard, but if you are focused mainly on synthesized sounds, I suggest to you to buy a real synthesizer. There are some old synthesizers (like my JP-8000) on eBay for about the same price of an MM6.

  • come la mia votazione, strepitoso!

  • Excellent Job! I had no idea that my JP8000 could cover an OBXA patch for Van Halen.. keep it up!

  • Hi,

Sincere thanks for your comment. Yeah, the JP-8000 can do some beautiful emulations of "the king" OB-Xa. I've also done a good patch for Jump and 1984 on this great keyboard. I'll post soon a video showing it while playing these songs, so stay tuned :-D

Ah... read the video description. There's something for you if you haven't read yet :-)

    Keep on playing!

    Bye!

    MiMa

  • hey i have been looking everywhere for a tutorial on this song... think you could make one?? :)

  • Where to start? Your playing ability is great! When will people also realize the pure power of the JP-8000?! That sounds spot on like an Oberheim! The great thing about the Roland JP-8000 is that it can sound like any vintage analog, and be programmed like one, and will probably last and outlive all of us since it's digital! A true collector's item and powerhouse at the same time.

  • Thanks for your appreciation. Yeah, I agree, the JP 8000 it's a great and reliable (and beautiful to look at) machine and I'm very happy to own one. It sounds also great, a little bit colder than a true analog such an Oberheim OB series or a Roland Jupiter 8, but approaches nicely their sounds, and behaves surely way better than most soft-synths and some big-mouth but little-facts VA such the Roland SH 201, which I bought on last christmas and replaced some months after with the JP 8000.
