  • gerry wrote the sax part, btw. There are demos.

    But the guitar..

  • Great song but in the video Rafferty appears to be playing the lead-he wasn't-it was done superbly by Hugh Burns. One of the great songs of that era. Music is now so fucked up it is impossible to listen to. RAP has destroyed music. And rap artists can call it what they want, but sampling is plain ass stealing. To bad they can't make their own music.

  • IF you think British pop is any where near this nowadays then you are in some kind of spastic dream world.......... huh !??

  • Thumbs up if you came here for the shades !!!

  • Oohh Sexmaaan! uhmm.... saxmaaan!!*

  • I'd used to dance and sing along to this song all day long at work.

  • Original and the foo's version are both amazing :D

  • >mfw when sax wasn't the intended instrument

  • Comment removed

  • i hate vevo i have to watch commercials for something i dont care about first then i come here to listen to good music and they advertize this lady gaga crap under the video if im watching this do you realy think i listen to that crap

  • @russian06374 It's to tell people what to listen to so that they can make money. It's sad, but it's very effective and it's one of the reasons why the music industry is such a piece of shit today.

  • Bolesno dobra stvar!

  • No thumbs up if your here because of the Simpsons

  • GOD SAVE EUROPE!

  • no one here for Sherlock Holmes? Baker Street? Anyone? Come on!

  • @CoolKidConan1 i am as i have been working all night in baker street

  • @CoolKidConan1 oh of course there are, me for example.

  • @CoolKidConan1 holmes would have to be more tooth and nail to have this as his theme music though, it doesn't fit his extra-intellectual interior

  • im not a expert on rafferty but I read a li and from a lil I read he pissed on hotel floors in his special corner in later years while getting f'd up and he paid this sax player 50.00 for a immortal part ( the check bounced) and he routinely made 124,000 a year off this same song

  • @guitargold77 You're not an expert on english either. Try again with punctuation, gramar and actual words... and it'll still be bollox.

  • @mrswinkyuk Don't take it personally, I love his music but many seem to have drug or drink issues that make them difficult. As for that sax player their is also alot of greed in the music biz, (oops sorry I used biz professor) As for my English Teddy Roosevelt almost let us go with phonetic spellings and it would have been worth it if only to annoy the 'i before e other useless dribble' British Empire

  • @guitargold77 There you go, you CAN write like an adult...keep it up.

  • this is so animalympics

  • RIP bleeding gums murphy

  • Someone needs to upload the demo version of the song, offers a vastly different part, swaps the sax for a guitar, pretty dang good though not better then the original, please someone upload here!!

  • Someone needs to upload the demo version of the song, offers a vastly different part, swaps the sax for a guitar, pretty dang good though not better then the original, please someone upload here!!

  • @teamstarpug What the heck?

  • @teamstarpug you got the wrong vid bro

  • Thumbs up if you came here for the whole song, and not just the sax

  • @NBAXXX what a name you have

and another think, it's the whole song, not just a part like you were asying,

    agree me if u want

  • @NBAXXX I came for the whole song...but tell me that sax cameo didn't just blow your mind! :)

  • @NBAXXX Well... This is a pretty good song, but in my humble opinion, it wouldn't be nothing without the sax.

  • @patapirate Wouldn't be nothing? So it would be great... I agree.

  • @NBAXXX This song inspired me to take up the sax... that was 30 years ago, more into john coltrane and michael brecker now but good to get back to where it all started

  • @EdCannata really good song still seek it out after all this time

  • such an amazing chorus but what a shitty verse

  • R.I.P. Gerry Rafferty.....4/16/1947 to 1/4/2011

  • Tommy trash cascade brought me here

  • phone sax

  • fucking hell i did not know foo fighters covered this

  • Internet brought me here

  • DAT SAX

  • Two of the best solo's of all time in one song... epic! That distinction will never be taken away....

  • Epic sax.

  • Gerry Rafferty is a fine talent from Scotland! Great song! An all time classic!

  • Musical Brilliance brought me here.

  • Beautiful song and I was born in 1987...

  • this is so much better without lyrics

  • Sexy intro

  • my own greatness brought me here

  • Learning the sax so you can just play this one song ;D

  • Supposedly there is a guitar only version recently released to refute the Saxophone's contention that Gerry didn't write his lead. Has anyone heard the guitar only version? Where can I hear it?

  • @cgappraisers .If you listen to the Soul Music feature on BBC Radio 4 as I mention earlier then you will hear the entire sax solo played by Rafferty through a heavily altered guitar.Michael Gray Gerry,s mgr explains about the controversy about the sax solo.

  • Top Gear brought me hear ;)

  • john lennon is still alive. love you

  • Anyone know where I can find the Bass Chords for this song? :)

  • @AndersOErom

    Sounds like:

    G/A, Eb/F, F/G x3

    D, C, Am, G x2

    A, Em, G, D,

    Dm7, Am7, Dm7, Am7, C, G, D

    Dm7, Am7, Dm7, Am7, C, G/B, A, G7

Then repeat excluding introduction with extra chords of awesome at end :)

  • @tortoise7 Thanks man.

  • R.I.P

  • Muito Linda essa música...Principalmente o instrumental!

  • Awesome tune and lead guitar play, they really make the guitar sing.

  • Have always loved this song

  • jennifer aniston sex tape ;)

  • I have been trying to find this song for so many years!!!!!!!!!! I heard it once or twice like when I was 6 and I could never figure out what it was until the other day!! :)

  • great song, actually never realised that i'd heard it before!

  • the last 50 seconds of the song is fucking genious 3:30

  • forgot to say ,,,Its a CLASSIC ...OF ALL TIME ..BRILLIANT

  • this song will be here long after we have all gone ,,,,,it will live on ..

  • phone sax bought me here

  • Absolutely perfect song. If you look up the definition of the word "storysong" this jumps right at you. For anyone who wants to jump deeper into this song BBC radio 4 did a 30 minute Soul Music show, where they interview Gerry's daughter and the guitarist who provided the iconic solo. Some songs are beautiful when they have one flash of brilliance This hes two guitar and sax.

    Existential

    Thanks for the video.

  • Frank brought me here.

  • don't wash the mouthpiece! ;]

  • Another sad victim of alcohol

  • brilliant.. the sax player is rafial ravenscroft.....

  • @philcomic1 No its not, it was Bob Holness off blockbusters LMFAO

  • the greatest song to hear to if you can't sleep....

  • Which tv-show has the sax solo as intro??

  • @STEJTHEGREATEST

I agree... But Beyonce got a great ass :P

  • The consummate song about paying your dues

  • The sax & the solo makes it 5 star :D

  • Thank-You for Sharing Frank! <3 xo

  • thank you big bang... for reminding me of this brilliant song.

  • I think the music of today does not even come close to the music yesteryear...it's a shame

  • Love the song but is there one with jst a sax . If not dat would be da shit :D

  • The vocal melody and lyric is boring, but the saxophone was awesome especially in the beginning. That little part made the song.

  • @NathanVu What??????/!!!!!!!!!!!! Gerald Rafferty's singing is done in the traditional busking kind of way!!!!!!!!! That's far better than the ridiculously over-the-top pop singers of today like Beyonce!!!!!!!!!!!

  • One of the best, cool songs of the 70's and I am not a fan of the 70's Hippies. This song, along with andy Gibb's songs are incredibly great exceptions!!!

  • This shall be my entrance theme song when I become a wrestler!

  • @afiguy310 Hahaha! Classic.

  • Great story about a free man imprisoned in the modern society.

  • Heyo...anybody think he looks like Lennon in the haze?

  • Worst Song in the history of the human kind.

  • @TrustNBi is that cause the artist can actual play an instrument, & comes from a time where music depended on talent and not what you look like, I guess you prefer the generic shit the music industry pumps out every day of the week.

  • @TrustNBi Just go back to your cave, you don't know what's music.

I don't think you can make something like tis ;)

  • @TrustNBi worst song ??? opinions are like arseholes mate,,everbody has one but your way of the mark with that comment dude !

  • @TrustNBi why are you on the video then? you are entitled to your own opinion, i suppose, but your opinion is wrong.

  • lol ooking for this i always whistle the sax part lol

  • i've litrally been looking for this song half my life, i heard it when i was a kid and loved it. AND I STILL LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!

  • @PhaZe640 OMG SAME!!!!!!

  • @PhaZe640 I hear ya. It took years of hearing this song as a kid before someone actually announced what the name of it was on the radio in my mid 20's. I fucking hate it when DJ's do that. What the hell is the point of even playing a song if you're not going to say who's it by?

  • @PhaZe640 What a great song in which I rarely heard when I was young and did not know the title or singer, where it unfortunately has hippie aspirations.

  • i have been looking for this song FOREVER, i thought it was a kenny g song.

  • Awsome classic

  • he comes from the same town as paisley scotland !!

  • Simpsons (S09E03 - Lisa's Sax) brought me here :)

  • @elmiraguth me too

  • @elmiraguth Listening to this song on the radio brought me here.

  • @elmiraguth o that´s y i have heard this song somewhere tyvm :)

  • I LOVE YOU SAXOPHONE HORSE!

  • woot! im the 777,777th viewer

  • ...did that drummer ever heard of a gillette razor??

  • I remember this song when it first came out, when i was a kid.. 7 years old! IM 39 now.. AWESOME!!!!!!!

  • The real saxophonist was a Scottish musician named Raphael Ravenscroft.

  • @ConstantineBooth Bob Holness is NOT the sax player, its an urban myth!!!!

  • Love this song. Love the sax.

  • God bless Family Guy for bringing me here haha

  • Saxual content?

  • I can't belive i finaly found this song... i've heard this sax riff during all my life in movies, tv shows, and i always had trouble to find it!! Damn... fells good to heard this song... makes me feels like i just did the most important think of my life! By the way, Good Will Hunting soundtrack send me here!

  • I just came here to listen to this for the first time since Gerry died. And might I say, today is the worst day of my life.

I can't listen to this anymore without it depressing me :(

  • Someone told me there is a new film out,

    about a horse or something ? "O.o'

  • Love this I had just reached my 15th Birthday when this was a hit guys great and the songs a classic RIP Gerry!

  • .....oh so many memories come flooding back when I hear this....love it.

  • The 38 people who disliked this clearly need more sax.

  • This is awesome to listen to while you are doing a project or homework

  • Can anyone confirm that the opening scene was filmed at the junction of Baker St/Marylebone Rd?

  • never gets old :)

  • The sax melody is in Family Guy too, that's why I came to this video hahah. When Peter is having phone-sax (Yes, sax) with Lois

  • @shenkeey And the Lois responds with You Can Call Me Al hahaha

  • ECELENTE POR EL AMOR DE DIOS Q GRAN TEMA CARAJOOOOOOOOOOO EXCELENTEEEEEEEEEE EXCELENTEEEEEEEE EXCELENTEEEEEEEEE

  • I miss Lisa...

    Saxamaphoooooooone

    Saxamaphoooooooone...

  • Why the fuck am I getting advertisements before this

  • i saw a documentary about Gerry's life & death

recently, the sax player wason, said he sort of

extemporised the sax riff, obviously with Gerry's

nod. he went on to say he received about £70

i think & he gets no royalties, can you believe that?

  • @MrJohncolinmoore have you heard the original demo. On that, the guitar is virtually playing the sax melody. So really, although the sax player brought that hook to the fore, it is actually on the original demo really.

  • @MrJohncolinmoore not sure he should get any royalties, as the sax solo is not entirely original! Compare with the sax part on "Half a Heart" by Larry Coryell from 1968!

  • best song ever the sax is the perfect touch fot this song.

  • love the face the guitarist makes at the start of the solo

  • Fuck the stupid dj whom prolly is takin all the creds. SAD

  • i miss the sax being in music

  • @dakonaisakoala here you are:) soundcloud com/adrianusthebassman/red-mellow-private-heaven

  • this song was used for a Tv show. Does someone know which show this is? I thought it was from Beverly Hills 90210.

    Anyone?

  • Looks like John Lennon
