@OhSoddit - antibiotics, pain medicine and ultimately surgery. I have been in the hospital twice in the past six months. If you really want to know about the real symptoms PM me. If you are experiencing anything like the doc in this video highlights, go to the ER. I didn't on a couple occasions and almost needed immediate surgery which will get you THE BAG!
Surgery has improved THE BAG option is not up to date....
Now the surgeon told me the procedure is done through the rectum.
And because of better tools and technique they can staple the intestines from the inside thus avoiding the need for the bag. The healing process is days instead of weeks.
@agerolimatos - your lucky then as I had the best surgeon in this State. My Diverticulitis was bad and I had an abscess on my Sigmoid Colon to boot. I was in and out of the hospital 7 times last year and ultimately had my surgery because I was rolling on the floor in pain for 3 days the last time. After my surgery I had a bad infection and lost several bags of blood rectally and on Oct. I had a blood clot race through my body and into my lung. 3 weeks ago I had my reversal and lost the bag :)
@agerolimatos - I also want to say that mine were stapled to but the stress and pressure can rupture the staples placing you in a life and death situation. I was a dead man walking and surgery was the only way out for me. If you anyone wants to know what the recovery process is like for this and also for the reversal just PM me as I am fully aware of all facets of this diverticular disease and recovery process.
don't forget about symptoms like "chills", "cold sweats", mucus on the ends or in your stool. i had it....it sucked....a lot. on my 37th b-day i went to the E.R. and was diagnosed with an abcessed diverticulitus. almost perferated. i was about a week away from dying (i think i could have lasted a month though). rock on!
Ok.... All well and good (symptoms / diagnosis), but WHAT IS THE TREATMENT??
(BTW, it isn't very nice when a 'doctor' tells you "the pain is psychological").
