Though it was a clear and deliberate foul by the Chinese player. To qualify for a red the Chinese player has to "Deny an obvious goalscoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the players goal by an offence punishable by a free kick or a penalty kick." since the other defender is present there is not an obvious goalscoring opportunity, and thus a Yellow for unsporting behaviour (for a poor challenge or tackle) is the correct punishment. Again harsh but those are the rules of the game.
