How well does the Toy State train navigate the Lionel tracks (both the ballasted track with lots of ties and the old unballasted track with only three ties)? I just picked up a Toy State train, and want to make sure that it can navigate the track without derailing at switches and curves. Do the wheel flanges hit the ties at all?

@weekendrailroader It runs on them pretty well. I've run the train on Lionel O27 profile tubular track and FasTrack . The lead pilot sometimes jumps around and will occasionally derail, but it's no big deal. The only thing you have to watch is the curve diameter. O27 or O31 (basic curves that come in sets) probably won't work because they're too sharp. I've run my train on tubular track with wider O42 curves, and FasTrack with O36 and O48 curves and had no problems.

Maybe weighting the front wheels a bit would help a bit?

@weekendrailroader Yep that should fix that problem. It's mainly caused by the somewhat-jumpy motion of the driving wheels, so if the lead pilot wheels are weighted it wouldn't happen.

awesome layout!!!!!!!!!! I am in the middle of deciding what to do for scenery on my layout. i am a new england modeler Boston and Maine, MBTA, Guilford ect. I like fall the best out of all the 4 season's . i have a 6 by 16 layout but cant think a type of design for a city i would like to do a small town or something i love the newer trains BNSF Amtrak. My first mth train set was a Amtrak f-59 set and sometimes i sneek it on the layout, Anyway glad to see your layout its very cool Thanks JC

Hey Ive got a quick question. I just purchased the Polar Express set and my locomotive doesnt smoke like that! 3:34 Yours looks so nice, congrats! Could you help me get my locomotive to smoke like yours? My son would love that on Christmas Day!

What I do to make that much smoke is put the engine in neutral, and crank the transformer to maximum output. Normally, though, the engine doesn't smoke that much. There are other companies like "MegaSteam" that make much better smoke fluid but I wouldn't know how this engine would react to it, as I've never used anything but Lionel. I agree, though, the engine looks great with lots of smoke!

Get a MTH steamer. The smoke will run you out of the room.

I used Adobe Premiere Elements 2.0 for editing, a Sony Handycam DCR-TRV460 for recording. The camcorder records onto Hi8 tapes in Digital8 format.

great stuff!! layout came a long way. One of the best smoking engines that Lional has ever made as a trainset!! I do that with polar express set too. Ill put 7 drops of smoke fluid and within 2 mins the track and and engine is covered in smoke!! its great!! now you gotta make a Christmas vid lol
