  • He makes alot of songs like this, Funny The Way It Is, Eh Hee, #41 all with similar themes of duality of the world

  • This man (Dave Matthews) Doesn't need and album that says "Greatest hits" because all his song are greatest hits

  • @xEd3n Totally so.

  • This man (Dave Matthews) Doesn't need and album that says "Greatest hits" because all his song are greatest hits

  • Song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it..

  • One of the worst guitar solos I've heard. Carlos Santana's usual "cut and paste" jobs.

Dozens of better suited guitarists who could've done the song justice...De Lucia, McLaughlin, Knopfler, Derek Trucks, Neal Schon....

  • @oa Then go listen to your crappy excuse for music instead of this REAL music.

  • Mother Father please explain to me..........

    Subject: Hey! Forgiver a reflector

    Anagram: for the fragile recovery

  • I have two Dave Matthews (born in South Africa wasn't he?) albums. Everyday and after a Space Between - another one.

On another topic - "Let the Right One in" film became - Let ME In - in the English version? lol Nice vetting everyone - everyday!

  • what kind of other songs are like this? i really like the style :)

  • @riceboy287

funny the way it is -dmb

  • Folks who upload audio with a few pictures make it so much harder to find the genuine vidio clips. The best place for stuff like this is your C drive.

  • Favorite Matthews song ever written.

  • Love this song. So deeply sensational.

  • Wow. I haven't heard this in years. What a cool song. Thx. =0]

  • Wow. I'd forgotten about this little gem. Thx. =0]

  • oh....my...God

    holy shit....

    how fucking awesome...

  • I cant FUCKING BELIEVE how UNDERRATED this song is... i mean seriously, the emotions and passion they put into this song is just beyond belief!!!!!!

  • I heard this song, I mean really heard it, for the first time a few hours ago. I was instantly taken to it.

  • haceme un pete, haceme un pete, porque esta noche quiero gozar,

  • If you add Santana to this song, there would be no reason for any other music, the perfect song would already exist.

  • @Epicsaursus degenerado

  • @Epicsaursus Santana IS in this song. =D

  • @Epicsaursus your comment hit me in the gut as absolutely true.

  • Such a well written song.

Please Mother/Father please explain to me how............

  • Such an amazing song.

  • There's no God above

    And no hell below

    Oh, it's here with us

    It's up to us

    To keep afloat

  • Heard this song on Warren Miller's Storm. Four years later, I finally found it. Love it!

  • Mother, Father do you know

    why one mans belly OVERFLOWS

    another sleeps in HUNGERS bed.

  • @DmB4LiFe420eL Oh, we`d trade our world for a piece of bread

  • I heard this song randomly in an English class a few years ago. Thank god I did cause it got me into Dave

  • Im a huge DmB fan but never cared too much for this song.........my cousin be playing it off the hook, and now im addicted to it!!!! Dave your a genius in many ways

  • Great song

  • I love this song. Its such impressive insight and skillful wording of an observation on out world focused on tangible things and selfishness. Dave is an amazing song writer.

  • i miss my mother and father. they go to london. :( . july 1,2010 they will go home.

  • Does anyone think it sounds a little like Sting? I don't know why it reminds me of a Sting song.

  • i see what you mean. the melody and rhythm of the vocal is similar.

  • the album everyday sounds like them but their other albums have no similarties

  • i thought this was gona be journey cover haha

  • Wow... seems a few people here have lost their perspective on things. This is an absolutely beautiful song and you are highly disrespecting it by acting immature and posting all of this negative energy. Dave is all about the music... if you can't respect that, then don't say anything at all.

    It's that simple.

  • beautiful song

  • I saw a lot of comments here, but I really know that the shame is theres not a video(clip) of this really good song.

    Cya all you guys!

    DMB4E

  • no.

  • yes

  • wow.. do you even listen to either band much? i wouldnt say anything if there was any kind of resemblance but... just... i dont know where ur comin from on that one dude. im not trying to be a jerk or anything.

  • A-W-E-S-O-M-E!!

  • your an idiot dude...

  • Because I know the difference between "your" and "you're"?

  • Sure, adam bighead. If you have to belittle other people who happen to disagree with you, sure. that's cool. Hopefully, you realize that you're just making yourself look like a tool.

  • I think ya'll need to remember that unless the lyrics are printed on the dust jacket, or on the net as being from the band, it's all just conjecture. For example:

"we're taken the water" doesn't make sense to me, but

"we're taking on water" does, when you combine it with the lyric "It's up to us to keep afloat"

    Similarly:

"Come on out you" seems wrong, it would make more sense as

    "Comin On At Ya"

and "Let the blue planet" is just stupid. Try "Little Blue Planet" instead.

  • my cd messed up this track so i thought id ought to listen here and... 'sniff' im missing this song really bad!

  • This track was great on Warren Millers ski movie STORM

    5 stars from me

  • haha yes that was great.

  • Awesome song! I love a song either due to the song writing or the beat. Mother Father has both and that's a beautiful thing! Please don't judge people's opinions so quickly-we all interpret music, art, life in our own way. That's the beauty of it! This song can have 10,000 different meanings to 10,000 different listeners. I took away from this song that we are all searching for answers and we should stop looking to God or some mysterious perfect being out there, rather rely on ourselves!

  • wow finally someone with there own opinion i deffinateley agree with ya

  • But, what if we, ourselves, are God?... Beautifully said BTW...

  • You need to calm down. Just enjoy the song.

  • Do you not understand English?

There is no sexuality, explicit or implicit, in this song, music or lyrics. Perhaps you hear filth because you have filth in your head.

  • It's "(...) so full of sad, sad (here the next strophe of the song begins) mother, father, please explain to me (...)", not something with sad, sad motherfuckers.

...at least that might be where I think you could've misunderstood something. Anyway, an advice: Check the lyrics (Google is always useful for that) before being dead sure that you've got the lyrics correctly.

Or maybe you just wanted to troll a little, who knows.

  • i know. i believe you failed to realize that those lyrics were implied. i know the actual lyrics.

  • w/e as long as it sounds good, i like

  • Sexy? Man wailing about the suffering in life, and how people just talk about it but never do anything that makes a difference. A plea for people to take up the staff instead of waiting for God to take care of it. Again, sexy? That's warped.

  • Won't say I'm a huge fan of this song, but in some strange way I'm rooting for a 2001 Live Trax someday primarily to get a SBD recording of this song.

The Great Canyon: River At Risk rendition of this song is better.

  • The Great Canyon: River at Risk, in my opinion, was as good as it was because of DMB and particularly, this song. I thought the whole project was phenomenal.

  • The best song on Everyday IMHO.

  • Dave Matthews Rocks. Luv this song. GO DAVE

  • maybe sexy only = good

and people should take things less gutter-mindedly =]

  • "Theres no god above and no hell below, oh its here with us"...is not really denying god, its saying that heavan and hell are here on earth and not separate realitys...and even if he is denying god, he justifies it pretty well in this song.

  • why should it matter what he believes religiously?

you should judge music by the music, not the artist.

  • maybe YOU deny god a lot!!!

    juuust ... kidding u_u

    indeed this song is "sexy"

hmm and really steamy... like a bubble bath..

    O_O

yah hmmm eyeeeee should stop now u_u

  • Then how do you explain his "Christmas Song"? In that tune, he pretty much tells the story of Jesus Christ. "Father up above, why in all this hatred do you fill me up with love, love, love?"

  • cool song "sexy" really doesnt describe it like people say but cool never the less

  • Songs have two sounds. Words sound out your feeling and the sound of the music also express your feeling. If someone is saying this song is sexy, it doesn't necessarily mean the lyrics are sexy but maybe the sound of the music is. Take the lyrics out of the song, and the music is sexy all on its own-

  • good song.

    sorry but isnt sexy

  • like "busted suff" for example... but they're best work is done on live shows, like "piedmont park", or "live trax 10" (wich by the way was recorded in Lisbon, my hometown.. The best concert i have ever seen!)

Anyway, just wanted to give you guys some sugestions...! Cheers!

  • sorry to disapoint you guys, but this is kind of a weak song... i mean, i'm a great DMB fan, and, knowing they're work, it's impossible for me to like something like this. you should try hearing stuff from they're previous albums: "crash", "before these crowded streets"; and my personal favorite, "Under the table and dremaing". Everyday is not that bad - it has a couple of good tunes - but it's way too diferent, too 'pop'. they also have some good stuff wich was launched after "everyday"

  • gotta love it :)

  • This is such a sexy song

  • I am not sure if people voted this thumbs down because they hate this song or if the word 'sexy' should not be used for it.

    Lyrics:

"Mother, father please explain to me

How a man who rocks his child to sleep

Pulls the trigger on his brother's heart

He digs a hole right to the middle of this storm of hatred"

It is asking why the world can be such a beautiful place on the outside, but on the inside is terrible and made of hatred and horror.

Sexy isn't the proper word. I do like it
