Yes, I meant that its origins come from Okinawa, the school/style did not start directly in Okinawa. The translation is very lose and even perhaps it's the philosophy behind the style more than a translation.
@kyleandmagicbear This style is not to be confused with Wado Kai and Wado Rye, those are different styles.
For those who are local to Bay Area there will be a Self Defense workshop incorporating what the first guy did in the video. It costs $20 and you can call (510) 523-8011 for more info
Wado Ki Kai is an Okinawan Karate style that incoporates both soft and hard karate, incorporating weapons like sai, bo, tonfa. The words "Wado Ki Kai" has the *loose* meaning and motto of "to learn from all things". That's why we try to incorporate some techniques and kata from other styles while still maintaining the traditional aspects of Karate.
@neobluex 1) John T. Pereira is not an okinawan Wdo ki kai is an eclectic american style based on both japanese and okinawan karate and I believe tome TKD
Wa= harmony or peace
Do = road way( of life)
Ki= internal power
Kai= organisation
it has to be a very loose translation for it to mean learn from all things
During this test, the students were asked to demonstrate something they learned outside of their Karate training. The gun take away shown at the start of this video is a Krav Maga defense being demonstrated.
I'd invite you to come to class if you are local to Bay Area. I am a student of Sensei Arce. I assure you one thing: nobody and nothing is special in that class but everything and everybody is equally. It's hard work, no ego, solid basics. We don't learn to look fancy, we train hard, carry good positive energy, and it shows. We keep an OPEN MIND and learn to COMMIT OURSELVES TO SOMETHING, before we judge it. I would say may be you haven't seen anything fancy, but that doesn't mean it isn't good.
For the person who put this video up, can you please add to the tags "KTVU Fox Channel 2 Segment 2 Bob Mckenzie" so that people who search videos by those keywords can find this video?

Is this Wado Kai, or something ... else? Because .. Wado Ki Kai? Huh?
WadoAJ - I don't see anything really resembling either Wado Kai or Wado Ryu (if you want to make a disinction between the two that is).
Cheers
