Okay first of all only certain states outlaw rifles with magazine capacity higher than 10, with detatchable magazines. These rifles are almost 50 state legal, there are converted models that make it california legal. The rifles they put together are all over 16 in length barrels making them NFA compliant. Second ar15 and sporter AK's such as the one theyre building ARE NOT SELECT FIRE. Learn something about guns and come back to the fight

You obviously don't know firearms if you said the AR15 and the AKM he was building is selective fire. In the US you can ONLY own a selective fire gun if you fill out some forms with the BATFE, pending a 5 background check and the firearm itself had to be made before 1986 ( considered pre-ban). Or for that matter any firearm not meeting 29 inches in total length or a barrel shorter than 16 inches has to be gone through tons and stacks of paper work.

The people that take the training courses usually end up being more effective with their weapons than some members of SWAT teams. Im not being smart, but cops go through a 10 week academy training that involves firearms training and hand to hand to combat along with physical and educational training. Its very similar to Basic training. So I doubt they know shit dumbass! They usually either have to go to college or have years of law enforcement experience. I will give you a little credit saying that some cops become out of shape after a few years of academy training.
