Well, luckily it was a clear day when i went out to do reference photos... the blue sky could be used as a psuedo blue-screen (with a lot of tweaking in shake.) Then below the sky-line, masked out the base of the trees, which was usually below branch level (very handy.)

Maya (Autodesk) + Shake (Apple)
Cross between projected (painted and modified) photographs on 3D planes, a small 3D element (tomb in the centre,) and grading/compositing in shake.
Those trees took flippin ages to mask out!
