wow, this takes me back. they played the best music to lead into commercials too. it gave stern a real new york flavor.

Fred usually picked the music and sound bites that appeared before the show started. Later Howard wanted music that was more contemporary.

I don't know why the negative response, but it was actually Fred that played this theme out of the blue and Howard liked it, and actually stuck with it.
